Gentlemen, do not let this or anything like it affect you

Just because 3/4 of the country is given in to this nonsense, hold your ground to remind folks what is normal, and serve as a light in the darkness when they come back.

On the other hand if they wander off, it's really not your problem.

I will bet that this will become a race issue instead of dealing with the actual problem of undisciplined children, parents not being held responsible for their childrens actions and the safety and security of our teachers!

Louisville is not a favorite place for Kentuckians. Although some of it is nice, most of it is just inner city crap. That teacher had every right in the world to body slam that way out of line student punk.

I could go on for hours about why this is happening. It boils down to the absence of God in our lives and our institutions. Absence of God and all the good he is invites a vacuum which we witness is filled with hate, moral decay, lying to ourselves, and is reflected in children who are out of control. Out of control because of parents not doing their jobs of disciplining their kids. That point is made very clearly by the mother who seems blind to the fact that her son was cussing to an adult, and shoved the teacher.
Where's the responsibility for that? No we see this piss-poor mother citing protocol for dealing with disruptive students. Well, here's a clue. Just fix the disruptive student, no need for a policy.

In the case here, I would expel the student. Plenty of low paying jobs for that kid to do and think about the consequences for not following society norms.

In my independent school district, a student who makes a threat or assaults a faculty member is permanently removed from the school. We have a converted house where these school convicts go to finish their academic careers essentially doing nothing. Yes, they do not learn much or accomplish much, but the better good of keeping the other 99% of the kids in a learning environment is kept intact.

In this day and age, we will need to increasingly cull the population of people who clearly do not want to stick to acceptable cultural norms.

There use to be 3 companies in the area that worked on Grain bins and grain handling equipment. One doubled as a welding shop that would fix just about anything. Then there was one other place you went to in a pinch. Until the goofball messed up our truck so bad we had to go to another shop. They had to cut the frame off at the back of the cab and start over. But thats another story.

This is going to get long and I cant explain it without naming names however I am changing the names. There use to be Matts welding. Our go to guy for all miscellaneous welding and some bin building. Triple J. Big company but went down hill over the past several years. The owners health and the kid not interested in running it. Then Andreesons. The best of the best in my opinion. Small company did great work. Then the goofball..

Somehow goofball got the money to buy out triple j. Well good for him. I guess we are not going there any more. That was a year or two ago. Now all of a sudden we hear they bought out Andreeson's. That was a surprise but not shocking. The guys are getting older and again the kids had no desire to keep it going.

The real kick in the butt came when Matt called. He said he couldn't do any more work. All his guys quit and went to work for goofball and he was retiring.

So we are stuck going to a guy that burned us. On the plus side now I know that they now have the personnel that know how to do things right.

I cant help thinking isn't this a monopoly?

Great day to go out and do stuff but can lift anything! The wife still watches me like a hawk on lifting stuff.

We do a few small gifts each year, nothing major, and do trips or experiences. Sam just moved out so he and the wife went on a trip to California, while Sophie and I had quality time together, and then we're all headed to Leavenworth just after the new year to spend 5 days together in the snow with Bavarian beer and brats, and no Christmas shopping, just Ice Fest fun. kinda the opposite of Canadian Sam's trip but you get the idea...

I put out an email to everyone stating that I would not be accepting any gifts this Christmas. I had a discussion with the family, far and wide and poked at the commercialism and stress of the season. I suggested nearly no gifting for anyone but the kids. Not sure how all this will roll out, but we have not done very much Christmas shopping so far and tomorrow is the 24th.
We plan to go to dinner Christmas eve, then a movie, then home. Tomorrow a simple dinner and "Hanging out together" and that will be it

Dave, it’s always been pretty stressful with both wife and I working a lot as kids were young. Kids grew up and we have different jobs which promote more time off around holidays (well her’s does anyhow) I just have one job currently instead of 2 or 3. She still does a lot for girls. Her and I not as much, however we plan a Christmas budget like back in July each year and try to stick to it (at least I try to have her do that). Then her and I try to do at least one small trip a year. Often times that involves her traveling for work and me meeting up at end of it for few days depending on location.

I like The trip together idea, I asked this year but we had discussed the trip but she keeps telling me she wants the yard done ASAP!!!

I think we keep things here under wraps cost wise but it’s still just not the reason for the season so to speak.

Yes, Christmas morning can be depressing after the kids blow through the presents. I’d advise giving more, get kids involved because there is nothing more about Christmas than giving. John 3:16

Dave I wont go too deep here, other than to say I don’t celebrate Christmas.  If you look into the history of it, its a catholic invention in the 4th century used to try to convert heathen Romans.  We are commanded to celebrate His death.  (I Cor 11:23) No where are we commanded to celebrate His birth.  When asked why, I simply state that I am not Catholic.  Problem solved.

When the Catholics attempted to convert the Romans the Romans had a pagan celebration of Saturnalia in December. Catholics couldn’t get them to give up their pagan celebration so they conscripted it and claimed it was Christ’s birth.  Flocks were in the field during his birth. Not December by a long shot.  Most likely August or September timeframe but never the less. And the gift giving?  The wise men gave gifts to God, not each other.  The most precious things they had.  Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh as recognition of His deity.

Here we get together as extended family on Christmas eve for dinner, this year it is finger food. Young kids get presents from extended family and adults play dirty Santa (not the cut throat version) with a $40 limit set. After that my family will go to a midnight service and go back to our house and bed. Next morning all kids get to open their presents the adults have drawn names and will exchange a gift for a $50 limit. The last 2 years I have made the present I gave. Around lunch time the family go and help at our towns community center with cooking and serving Christmas dinner to people in town.

Dealing with someone who has had a stroke can be pretty difficult sometimes. I had a blow out with the boss last night. Over nothing.  Just having a conversation. He mentioned that somebody got some new trucks. I said yea I seen them. We should have gotten that kind instead of the Kenworths because they are so much lighter. Then he just went with no warning. Yelling you don't like anything I do it was your idea to get Kenworth and on and on and get out of my office. (it was his Idea to get them we just rolled with it) By now I'm getting kind of mad too. He was drinking when I got there I asked how much he had. One short glass of Windsor/water. I should have kept my mouth shut but I had to say that was plenty if he was going to act that way. Then he yelled some more Don't tell me what to do and called me some names and then I left.

I have never seen that man raise his voice in the 18 years Ive been here. I seen him pretty dang mad but he does not cuss he does not yell. Until now apparently.

This morning over coffee it was like noting ever happened. Business as usual and hes coming over for Christmas eve dinner.

Its not just me. Hes gone off on some of his best friends also. I mean he got nasty and called them all kinds of names one day. They were just joking around with him like they always did.

I'll pray for him Jon.
Been in your shoes. That's how I ended up getting my own shop after dedicating 22 years to my best friend and mentor. He started using coke for self medication. Accused me of stealing, etc. It's horrible having someone you love, more than anyone, turn on you.
I know it's hard, but try to hold on to him as best you can.

Jon, deep breaths when something triggers an episode. If this new activity continues or gets even worse, get him into the doctor for a check. Don’t take anything personal as he isn’t himself.

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

I listen to this moron speak, and he repeatedly says "Let's change this nation." Change to what? (Well we all know to what) But who'd want to change the greatest nation on earth? I mean aren't things mostly good? Aren't we mostly free? We still have guns, right? We can still decide our trajectory in life, right? We have a life of abundance, right? Well all those things and millions of others are because of the right!

I think the greatest part of what we are now is.   Any slug of a person who truly works.  Take a yard care business.  One mower and a set of hands can turn his business into a company.   Joe blow landscape.  With hard work, clean yards gain clients, build a business hire more folks and soon he is above middle class

Under the other proposed its not anything anyone will be doing.   Everyone sinks into doing just enough.

AMERICA!!!

I don't know the circumstances but from a distance I have to agree. Captain of a nuclear weapon carrying capital ship and he's winning about sick sailors and begging for help?
You do your job and you hope you get help. But if you don't, you do your job.

We are looking at Obama era officers here. The killer instinct replaced by the "I need my safe room" crowd.

I can just imagine the Marines and Seals onboard wanted to toss the wimp overboard.

I remember watching the national news piece monday or tuesday evening where they were trying to grill the secdef about this and trying to get him to comment on it.....and he told them that he trusts that sailors chain of command and promptly changed the subject on them 2 or 3 times after that....lol

I commented to wendy when she got home and she didnt believe me when i told her that he would be relieved of command with in 2 days max.....

So what does that mean to be relieved of command?  Demotion? Kicked out? Loss of pension and benefits?

I’m sure CNN will hire him to be a “commentator” and bash Trump

in this case he wont be demoted, but he will be hidden somewhere until this blows over and then he will be told "have a nice day, thanks for your service, enjoy your retirement!"

but to answer your question "what does it mean to be relieved of command" Charles....imagine if David Wichmann came to your office personally and told you to collect your personal effects and you that you have 10 minutes to turn your badge in and leave the building and never to return!
