How did your tool bags wear out Dave? Dragging them behind the truck?

If we put them closer to 18 inch centers I could fit between them easier lol

You or the belt?

Signing paperwork for mom today, move her in this weekend.

Darn crabcakes sound good!!!

Yep, you could loose a scout on that ship. Lots of space stuff to since it recovered the first appolo flights. They also RR planes in there too. I always wonder why there is an escalator though from the briefing room to flight deck?

So whats up on the house Dave?

TRN, dad didn't want me near the marines like he was. He pushed me towards the AF, but I never took the bait. Followed him anyway into LE after he retired from the military, then Dland security and onto Federal Police. He was around just long enough to badge me at graduation, was a great day.

Nate, we have the old Hornet based here in Alameda. Nice thing is with the scouts we were able to stay on for a night or 2 over the years.

3 high bunks and common toilets are not for this guy!!

My buddy used to hunt them the same up in near Berryessa, little to much for me at the time. Heck we can't use dogs now, not PC.

Bet those little tusks would hurt something awful in that area, well anywhere.

That was some good meat though. Nice work!

Yep, my daughter turns 16 in Oct, got her permit this summer. Wife has been letting her drive long before she got her permit, non by me yet as all I drive is the LBZ now. Out here you now have to have lessons to get a DL before you are 18. You also cannot drive your friends around for a  year after getting talk about rules of the road and such with her all the time, she is pretty level headed but gets upset easy.

My mom gave us a Camry and she will get that for now. Mom is being interviewed for placement today, hope to move her in by the weekend.

Did your dogs get to that last pig? We have some pretty big ones here at the foot of the Blue Ridge mountains, love to get one sometime.

Oh, and all that blood with the last pic offends me  (not)

Think trim tabs would place little stress on a good transom. They spread the load so much but are the pricier fix of the 2.

Compared to a fin that places stress on the outdrive, which could lead to a very pricey issue.

As long as you get to change the fluid, all is good.

6967
I agree with all that Bob.

When I worked we were in the SF bay often, swells 4-6 ft where common.

6968
Sounds like I'm on the right tract then. Picked up the oil change stuff last night, dang that killed a C note fast!

Maybe a little better throttle management is in order it the drive is coming out of the water at full throttle? Adjustable trim plates will help you get it up, they make auto also.

Some fins can be bolted onto the outdrive without drilling. The 4 holes most use will not weaken the outdrive, but the outdrive will push up on the stern just like trim tabs.

Do you trim once up on plane?

Ran the kids all over, had the oldest mow the lawn and sold 2 little kayaks.

Put a new prop on the boat, saw mom and started cleaning the garage and shed again. Wife complained the pool was cold, guess I need to fix the solar.

Watching Armageddon with the oldest boy now, love Willis.

That was my first choice and they would even pay us to care for her. We just don't have the room and to many nightmares with caregivers.

She needs pretty steady care, meds (which I do now) she forgets all the time and can barely walk now.

If it is cost neutral, it s win!

6977
Used a bunch of calcs and I am still right in the middle for size/pitch.

Fin is the last option. From what I read the prop is the key.

6978
So the new prop came in and already got it on. Switch too but that will be for another post since I have to make it fit and wire it.

Doesn't look much bigger, (isn't really) but it is 3/4 larger dia. (13.25 to 14in). Would have been a 14.5 if keeping 3 blades.

Big diff are the extra blade and it has 2 profiles for holeshots and maneuvering. Also has vents drilled at the base of each blade supposed to help with exhaust cavitation on the low end while not affecting the the top end.

Also I went to a 19 pitch, up from the 17 on the original prop. Now I have a spare too which is always good, but having a 14.5x19 spare would be nice.

Sure, SS would be nice, but 3-4 times the price and all you get is a thinner blade with less slippage and cavatation.

Reminded me of the youtube vid where a huge grunt was trying to lift a tire/wheel onto a H1. He failed pretty bad.

When I changed truck tires I could lift a double combo from laying down to upright. Any lifting was using a bar.

Thx guys, but renting as well as making her a ward is something I have considered.

The house is all but paid for, just a few payments to go and we could just pay it off with savings, but will use the profit. Everything she has is in a trust, I am the trustee and I already have full power of attorney.

Ward of state here they come and take everything, and with the house as an asset she is worth to much. For veterans benefits you have to have assets under 80K, not including your house, so she is good (that would really solve all the problems if we get that)

Renting would just net us enough to keep her going. Nothing for maintenance.

The right investment will maintain the principal and give us enough to cover the extra and even build the primary hopefully. This would be the CD/mutual funds.

The annuity costs 2.5% to get into (over several years) and 1% a year after that. Income is guaranteed even if the principle goes down. This is safe, can grow but costs more. Yes, I have always been told that annuities are bad.

Financial Prep / Investing for income after home sale?
« on: August 25, 2018, 01:16:42 AM »
Well, as many of you know I am about to place mom in an assisted living facility. Issue is it costs more than she makes and I can make up. Monthly rate is around $3500 and her income is about 2K. I am looking at veterans spouse assistance, but not looking good now as they were still married, but separated. Military retirement looks low too at jut $175 month.

Answer I have come up with is to sell her home, invest the profit (about 275K) and use that to cover the extra monthly cost.

I have talked to my financial advisor and he recommends and annuity for just the income end of it. I am no fan of them and still looking at options. It does have a 5+ interest rate garanteed, which is what I need (about $1500 month) Fee's are 2.5 up front and 1% year after that.

Another is to get CD's and roll them over now and then using the dividens for the same use. Principle is gauranteed, but interest can go up/down with renewal.

Same idea on mutual funds, but same issues as with CD's for the most.

Per my tax guy the annuity would have little or no tax issues and she pays no taxes now or need to file with current income.

Nothing is going to happen quick except her placement. Getting the Dr paperwork monday, then getting her in just the home paperwork.

It is a nice place nearby https://www.brookdale.com/en/communities/brookdale-vacaville.html and even closer to me than where she lives now.

Anyway, any more ideas from you guys or feedback?

I was looking at those locks. Aren't they made special for each tire, not generic for say a 16.5? A little pricey for pvc is recall?

Listened to a report today saying the the big 3 information companies (google, facebook, twitter) can manipulate the search engines enough to actually change the election results by up to 12mil votes because of how they list and tell what the truth is. Big problem is the low info searchers who believe and click on the 1st two-3 links.

I understand it is a balance. I am no expert but when people talk lifts, tire size and such they leave out how much your suspension is really in the tire itself.

Big tires and small wheels are great for off road, but not so for drivability on the highway.
