Glock, XD, M&P, Beretta, Other
« on: May 04, 2015, 08:21:03 AM »
I am curious as to which handguns are preferred by the folks visiting here. I'm partial to the Glock myself, but I sometimes carry my old M9, and even my wife's M&P9C sometimes

XDs to be exact, in .45

Have XDM .45 too, as my SHTF side arm and will be adding a Glock at some point, just because I like shooting them.

Went with Springfield Arms as a "bang for the buck" at the time, simplicity of takedown, reliability and how well I shot them.  Glock 36 was stove piping on me - was told it was "limp wristing", but shot it side by side with the XDs and it never once stove piped; how could it limp wrist one and not the other?  Read on-line several places about that issue with the G36 so went with the XDs. :)

Mike,
I don't know what it is with Glocks and even M&P's and some people, but I have seen them stove pipe my guns, where I have never had one. It's in the spring tuning I guess, but as with anything you have to learn to use the equipment you own I suppose.

That's still our Canadian military side arm. Sheesh. I don't mind it...but it's not great IMO. I don't mind the Berettas, but I'm a Glock fan as well.

All Glock, all the time.  I have others, more as conversation pieces (or puzzles, have you ever completely disassembled a Sig P229 DAK to the last screw!!!)

No matter which Glock I pick up to carry they all handle and shoot the same.  My G17 trainer has 18,000 rounds down it and never a hiccup.
Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

Had a g27 for years, just never felt right even with the extended mag/sleeve.

Got an XDS (45) just and carried it for almost a year. Powerful, accurate but just 7 rounds with 6 backup.

Now I carry the MPC 40sw and love it.

Survey still has a lot of time remaining, but man, Glock is knockin it out!

I suspected Glock would be the fav, but I thought the XD boys would be more numerous

My input, without voting. In order of what I think of them, Glock and M&P are tied.

Glock
 Popular (obviously)
 Vast amounts of parts
 Reliable
 Easy to use
 Ergonomics aren't the greatest.

  * The Glock grip angle is based on the Luger grip angle, but without using Google, why do MOST European firearms use that grip angle?

 M&P
 Popular
 Reliable
 Easy to use
 Lots of aftermarket support
 Ergonomics are pretty much amazing

 XD
 Ergonomics aren't comfortable to me.
Not much parts selection (that I've seen)
 Reliable (I heard)

 Beretta
 I hate everything about them.

I haven't handled a M&P but I agree on the ergos of Glock and XD. I absolutely hate the way the XD 45 feels with an extended mag, like a plastic toy getting ready to crumble everytime you pull the trigger (sorry XD guys, it is what it is).
Nah, I think I will stick with something formed from steel....to late to change my ways now.

The MP feels nothing like the Glock or the XD with the extended mag. Plus I like 8 rounds.

Why buy a forgery, when you can buy the original.....all others copied the Glock.  Jus sayin'  Check out the book "Glock, America's Gun"

You mean "polymer guns?" H&K technically did the first. Glock did the first that was widely used and accepted.

Muy interesante, Bobby.  Did a little Wiki search.  A 3 round burst would be nice. H&K has always made good stuff.  I'd still like a MK23 one day.

However, S&W, Steyer, Springfield and the rest all copied the Glock after its widespread success.  There is an interesting story about the CEO of S&W slamming a Glock on the conference room table and screaming at the engineers "If you can't beat it, then copy it!"

I wonder how accurate 3rd burst would be on a pistol that size. MK23 is a beefy pistol... much sexiness in it. The new USPs' with the updated grips are SOO nice, but there's the rather important issue of the H&K price tag..

I've shot the MK23, such a beast of a pistol. Can't imagine how big if would feel with the can spun on too.

From the few I've seen, I'd wager front heavy, but with even more sexiness thrown in the mix.

The FN 5.7x28? Yes I've shot them. 20rd mags, very little recoil.

Yes, very little recoil but feeding the beast is an expensive habit compared to a 9mm.  Its adoption around the world has lowered ammo prices, though since it can be manufactured on the same tooling as the 5.56 nato round.  Too bad the original steel core cannot be imported as its considered by the ATF to be armor piercing.
