Make shift scaffolding over the trench.

Cabin is now on power from the new meter pedestal.

Utility brought wire that was a foot to short this morning. They had a two hour break to go back to shop and get a longer run of it.

This allowed us to finish up the pvc from the new 200 amp disconnect to the cabin while they were away. They returned and did their part and we had power again.

Trencher attachment rented for next Tuesday for skid loader. I went and grabbed more 2” pvc for the 25’ run to the shop internal panel. Big shop will have power soon.

How many 90*s have you got on that pvc? Gotta be almost impossible to snake the wire.

Four from transformer to 400 amp meter box which according to my former lineman neighbor is max. It pulled fine though, bigger issue was how close they were together I think.

We should only have two from shop to 200 amp disconnect.

Now you have me thinking about when we used to pull big 3 phase wire in the steel shops half hitching it on the forklift and raising mast up to pull the wire. This was a walk in the park in comparison and I’m much older…..

Probably a good idea. I’m of the old school when we didn’t have all this fancy tape and house wrap chit to deal with. We just stuck them in back in the day and spray foamed them. Now it’s house wrap, butyl tape, install window, seal with tyvek tape and spray foam. I’m sure your way is better anyhow.

Wrap the house, install tape on sides n bottom, install window with caulk under the flange, then window tape across top, spray foam inside, we used standard outdoor screws to hand them.  I have used staples as well

Rented a trencher, excuse me pos trencher attachment. Obviously missing the auger, teeth were worn to the point it wouldn’t pull an 6-7” diameter rock from the trench. So it got some further abuse.

It was slow going & I guess I forgot most of the pictures however the conduit is now in from 200 amp disconnect at new pedestal to the shop. The conduit for propane line under a driveway area is installed and trench is still open where new tank will sit and at the shop to run the gas line.

At the house I was able to trench in a 4” tile across front of cabin area. This will help with all the snow that gets dumped there in the winter. The whole front area of cabin (parking area)  needs dug out still. Then place mat, base and gravel until I muster funds for concrete. In the rear of the cabin i dig a trench to bury a line for a couple of lights out at wood shed. They will be dusk to dawn auto on & off. This will help illuminate the back wooded area behind the cabin.

At the neighbors we trenched in 3 water lines to finish up his garden area. I was paid with a loaf of sourdough and quite happy with that transaction!

Going down & over the hill. Kinda like Ken & H! Yup, surely going to hell for that one….

Just a picture for a visual to remember where I buried that tile when I dig out this front area.

Ive heard mixed reviews using those trenchers. Many say they suck and just rent a dedicated trencher. Is that a tooth hanging off?

Yes, didn’t see that earlier….. whoops!

So at the farm in Indiana I stored an older ditch witch ride on trencher for my father in law for a couple years. It was a larger unit and pretty sure had a 5’ digging arm on it. It was a beast, thing would trench thru just about anything. But it was also maintained well unlike that pos above. So hard to compare apples to oranges.

Spent a long weekend in Bozeman with all three of the kids. Hooked up fifth wheel and pulled it down there. First time we’ve had the whole family together in about a year and a half. Next month is the oldest daughters wedding & then we get everyone together for Christmas.

So today was garage door installation day, finally. I picked up the wainscoting steel this morning and ordered garage door trim pieces along with the soffit and facia pieces. Should see those in about a week.

Ran to Ponderay, ID this afternoon and got sidetracked by Ken’s buddy in Clark Fork. Guy must have had a quota to fill as he was hot on a second truck as we can back thru this evening.

On the way over I stopped at Trout Creek Truss which is near Noxon, MT not Trout Creek and picked up my treated columns for the rear rv lean to. No pics of those but they’re now in the shop along with perma columns.

While in Ponderay I picked up my newly cleaned upper oil pan for the 6.7L from M & S Engine Works. They don’t advertise it but he will machine diesels too. Older guy, seems very knowledgeable on just about anything motor related. FYI Ken…..

Started the day pulling wire to the shop, yes grounds are important….

Then my radiant tube heater or parts of it arrived. So after a six week wait in a little irritated they couldn’t spend $100 on packaging to ship a $2k+ heater…..

After dealing with that debacle I decided to start cleaning up the old stumps and a dead tree around the property. Truck is at the shop getting the seeping pan swapped out. I probably have another trailer load after I dump this one.

No pictures but the high bay lights are hung & wired along with garage doors. Started wiring for a couple ceiling fans, guess I should order those. On another note I finished emptying the newer wood shed and power washed the side boards prepping it for stain. Then went to farm store and bought seed & fertilizer for the yard I’m putting in tomorrow between east end of cabin and south side of machine shop.

Next up is a plug in big shop for welder and start moving some stuff out of garage and to the shop, mainly excess building material and the dirt bikes to make some room in garage.

The better half and I started this morning de-weeding this area. The in-ground propane tank “hood cover” was originally installed incorrectly and pushing up against the shut off valve. So it was dug up and set correctly then I back filled the exterior of it in pea gravel.

Next we brought in more fill and leveled then seeded & fertilized this back area. It will eventually get two sections of fence in an L-shape to semi secure this back area between east side of cabin and the south side of machine shop for the two little dogs to do their business.

The wife then proceeded to stain the new horizontal slats on the wood shed. I’ll put a second coat on them tomorrow. Then I need to install roof supports between the two and roofing steel. Hang a couple lights (ran underground to it when I had trencher) & call it done.

This fill is what was left of the roughly four truckloads we were given for free back in the spring. I need to rake it in and let it settle for a month or so. We have a truckload of good top soil I need to try and lay in before winter. Plan is to fence that area for a garden in the spring.

Not a lot done today, several other things on my schedule. I did however get the top of the windows taped in.

Then started prepping to install this vented lp wall heater in the low bay area. I laminated two pieces of this drop of 1/2” plywood together. I’ll hang it on the inside of the wall and cut a square hole for the heat shield & intake / exhaust to go thru to the outer wall.

Finished day assembling treated laminated posts to the perma column bases for the back rv lean to.

I thought most of the TWH used pvc for intake and exhaust. Thats whats I've seen anyway on YT. But I can see the exhaust using real exhaust.

Finished wiring up the machine shop today. I decided with winter approaching that I needed it functional. So I have not hung wall sheeting. At this point I believe I will be repurposing the 2 car detached garage pine exterior board & batton and use it as a sort of interior paneling which I’ll then paint. But that will be next year.

I started finishing the door surrounds for the overhead doors on the big shop. The small door is finished along with the door seals hung. I rented a man lift and that showed up late today. Going to get all the soffit and facia hung over next several days.

In case any of you were wondering if I was ever going to finish sheeting and wrapping the shop. Well, today was the day. While I had the man lift I taped all the wrap seams with tyvek tape. Lift goes back now and I only need to finish soffit and facia on north end which the lower I can do off a ladder and the upper from the lower roof deck.

It was a Montana campfire kinda evening. Open burning now thru end of November.

Last of the old dried out stumps being burnt. I had taken a load prior to the dump. They tried to charge me $40 as they were too big and not rotten. On a separate prior occasion had told me as long as they were dry (mine were out of ground at least 4 years I estimate) there would be no charge.

3 cords of seasoned tamarack, yeah I forgot to inflate the bags…

Other than that I’ve been working on the north side upper soffit and facia over the weekend. The lower steel roof which is covered with gravel road dirt made it interesting. I finished up the facia this afternoon. Bored some 2” holes in the bird blocking in preparation for ceiling and the soffit and facia that will go up by weeks end.

Hauled crushed for driveway over the weekend, skid steer threw a code. Warranty tech who fixed it today said it’s a common issue (10# of chit in 5# box) where the hydraulic hoses pull a cable connector apart in the arm. He adjusted how cables lay in there and secured the connection out of the way a bit. Should be gtg now.

Yes sir, almost as hot as black locust (had quite a bit of that in Indiana). The two main ones up here are red fir and tamarack aka larch.

We have a wedding in less than two weeks. Just trying to get a few things accomplished here yet. I’m sure it will be here when we return.

Replacement heater showed up today, slightly better than first unit. The small box was actually intact and unopened! The big box not so much, they still can’t figure out how to strap them to a skid….

Insurance inspector is due out Thursday morning. He needs to look at first shipment. I turned in a claim on this second shipment as well as from what I can see there is some damage. Unknown if missing parts yet.

Sean,  make the leap to onboard air.  A compressor, 5 gal tank and a few solenoids and you can air up and down with the push of a button from the cab.

Happy to point you to parts I used to build my own.

Bonus is having a Milton coupler at the hitch to use to run tools

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

Charles, while I agree & should probably bite the bullet it’s not gunna happen for some time. Too many irons in the fire and already own that 12v portable unit.

I bought the better half a new kitchen stove, we had looked at it several weeks ago on clearance. High end almost $5k stove for about 65% off. I called last night and they still had it (because it’s ford red!) and so that just opened up a can of worms. New countertops and back splash now too……..

At dusk tonight we didn’t have outside lights for cabin on yet. One dog had to do his business and was dancing by front door. I grab leash and pistol and hurry out front door to see a bobcat sized black animal at end of our new wrap around driveway. It turns and runs but instead of running low and in a straight line it’s booping down the road. I come in scratching my head. Tell wife maybe it was a wolverine and she’s like no way? So I google wolverine running videos. The link below is the same speed and style this animal was moving. How cool is that!?!
