If only my tires would look like that.
Yours don’t see a lot of gravel.

Definitely got your money out of them.

Dave, you really don't want to know what I have in the LB7.....Its easier to name parts I havent replaced than those that I have.
Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

Charles, you also had a second dependable truck you were able to drive when needed.   Timeline perspective taken into account for sure.

One part at a time I guess

No argument there Dave. Just a picture of how much resources an old truck can suck up.

Still cheaper than payments on a comparable, newer replacement. Even if you’ve spent $5k, that’s what, 6-8 months worth of payments on a L5P or non ragged out LML?

I feel ya Dave. I need shocks, brakes (including calipers), probably a lot of front end parts (steering) and would like a small lift and new wheels but not until I need tires.

On the bright side, wife’s Acadia got a new throttle body today free of charge. She needs front brakes, too.

My wife runs two cars on the regular.  Our 2010 Jetta and her traverse.  Both need brakes and rotors.
I guess the Jetta needs a special tool for the rear brakes but I haven’t looked to much further into it.   I do have the parts sitting in the garage.

I can feel your pain as well. The Chevy express needs tires, probably about $800 there. Plus I need to build the engine out like Don did so it is more fun to drive. ;). The Camry I bought for the girls to drive needs the exhaust fixed, it’s got a whole so is loud. I don the the odyssey needs anything at this point(knocking on wood). As for the K5 Blazer, the list is rather extensive and the priority is low since it isn’t a daily driver.

But with all these things our vehicles own, in the long, long run we will be far better off. Dave, no way I'd part with a classic like that.
I also am on the need to do some repairs. Drivers step is somewhat boggered. Will need tires by summer, bumpers need paint. It has lots of rock chips out of the paint because of constantly off roading it and slinging mud.

But, since 2012 it has been paid for and delivering reliable service. I love it! Well, I like it alot...

So, I want to brag a little on my pre-rangers. Both wrestled this year. My 8th grader went to state placing 6th overall in the middle school competition. He is an 8th grader

But he also wrestles on the high school varsity team. Hear that? The kid is an 8th grader and is on the varsity high school wrestling team. So you'd think he would have no chance of placing, right? But he just took 4th in the regional championships, beating a senior for that spot in the last match. He wrestled one kid 10-0! And for the first time, led another by more than 15 points!

The high school coach told us that before this kid graduates High School, he will win the state championship.

That's how Army Rangers act, he's already showing it.

Took me 8 hrs for a 2 hour drive last night. Hwy 80 was closed over the summit but 50 was open. First 20 miles took over an hour. White out conditions to Carson City and 50 over to Tahoe. I stopped many times to let the bad flurries go by. Can't tell you how many cars were in the middle of the road trying to turn through a 2ft bank.

NO one cared about lanes or even moving over if you came up. Road only open to 4x4 and off road tires, not M/S, but many did not care and went on through, well tried. I pulled several times to clean the windshield. So I get over Carson pass (7k) and I fall in behind a few trucks and snow plows. Wwe get to Strawberry (drops around 1000 ft there) and the road is blocked be several idiots in 2 wheel drive cars and chains (prius/cube included) and we sit for 2 hours as they try to get it sorted out. Can't get by at all, with verticals on both sides.

Now what I will say is the Dmax and the 35in Maxxas Rzors worked great, from the deep mud of land looking to the snow. Before I came home I actually stopped and blew all the mud off it was so bad. I could pull off on the shoulder or into a closed gas station to clean the windows off (yes I had zero degree fluid). Got 14mpg on the way home doing 30-40 most of the time in 4x4 with just the last 75 miles of freeway.

The trip was for looking at land and I went to the Washoe building dept asking about regs. Pretty tight codes but I saw totally diff in the areas I looked, 30 minutes or so north of sparks (Palomino Valley) Saw a couple nice plots, but still to many people around with 40+ acres for a buffer. At least I got a taste of what the worst weather looks like

JR, try to keep the heat off the windshield when driving in snow and cold temps. Run a little bit of heat on the floor to keep from being too cold but keep the windshield cool as possible. This will help keep the wipers and window from freezing the melted snow and causing a big mess. If you start fogging up, open a window or just throw cold air at it from the blower motor. :beercheers:

Lots of years driving snow plows. Used to set the wing windows to force outside air across the windshield but those can't be had anymore. Now I just find a place to get off the road till the roads are clear. Good luck on finding an area to set up for your needs and getting out of California.

Been needing to replace the side door to the garage because the builder grade door was rotting at the sill. Decided to replace with a window and frame it in

Got it framed and weathered in and about 8 rows of hardie back up.  Tough to cut hardie while it’s hanging to stagger joints.

May be tough to match 10 year old paint.

TRN, I’m fixing to do the same with a door on the side of the garage, except no window. What did you do with the sill?  Just a pressure treated base plate with construction adhesive to seal it?

Bob, yes the only other man door.  In 10 years, I've only had it open once for ventilation.  The deed restrictions are 2 car only and this one is tight so I plan to put a smaller fridge that the one I have, up against the newly created wall space and get rid of the shelving unit so its easier to walk around the front of the wifes SUV. It's maybe 19.5ft long by 19 wide.

Dave, I laid down a bead of NP1 polyurethane and used a treated 2x4 and concrete anchors to form the base plate

Quiet weekend at cabin. And boy I mean quiet.
I think me and my two dogs were about all that was there.

Missed the big heard 5000+ caribou that flattened the snow in spots by 20 minutes.
Ran into a buddy about half way out that watched them for quite a while.  Would have been really neat to see that many wandering about without me trying to figure out which I want to shoot.

My diesel stove is off again...
Carbeurator must still have some crap in it. Wouldn’t turn down to low today, so its back off.
Was hoping to show up to warm cabin Friday, now it will take a couple trips for fire. Oh well.

What weight class does the kid wrestle in.  Around 120lb?  So if they wrestled back for 4th place does that mean he moves on to the sectional tournament?
He placed, and the next meet is for the state Championship in Louisville. He wrestles 122. Last night he says, "Dad, when this wrestling is over, I want to work on the Suburban with you to get it ready for our trip." The blessing a father takes from his children is one of those priceless things that God ordered in his perfect plan.

Hope its not to serious.  Wresting injuries rarely are.  You can pull or stretch or tweak something but because you are nearly always in contact with someone there aren't big impacts and you can't get blindsided etc..

I blew out my ACL playing baseball my the spring of my freshman year of high school.  Had to wear a knee brace all of my sophomore year to protect it.  The knee itself was basically full strength but I could feel that the brace slowed my down.  I decided at that time I was going to be a one sport athlete.

Weighed the dmax today, 8400lbs with my normal stuff, 4400lb on the front axle.

Bought a new DSP5 and trans tune before I saw Don post. Still can't get anything to load and EFI just says read the instructions. Trucks running OK but think it could be better.

Does anyone know this stuff? Done all the updates, seems to load and I see it in the V2, but just says "script error 0502" when I try to load.

Who did you buy the tunes from?  It's been a while but I the few times I had issues the tuner was always helpful.  Even went so far as to take control of my computer through a sharing session to make sure  everything was setup right and stayed in the phone with me through the flash process.
I do recall there being something about pulling a fuse on some year trucks.  Like I said it's been a few years since I have seriously spent any time in that game.

I don't remember who I got it from, was like 10 years ago. A sharing session would be great.

I pulled the onstar fuse when I had it but have done it many times since. Just started having issues with all the new upgrades and the CTZ-COZ tunes.

Since we were talking a little bit about proud dad moments here is one from my little girl.  She got to hold the flag for the pledge this morning at "school".  Just shy of 2-1/2 years old and she can recite the majority of the the Pledge of Allegiance and sing most of God Bless America.

Raising her right! That’s wonderful bear! Hope the knee injury is only minor Chief. How long until the next match?

Good job Bear,  Drill it in her know to fight off the radical left trying to undo it all through her education
Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.
