U.S. Flag sightings
« on: October 25, 2019, 12:28:29 PM »
I'll start the thread, but you folkses fill it up

Post a pic of old glory wherever you see it. Unusual places, like on the moon or at a democratic party meeting. If you see the flag and it is in an interesting setting or place snap the shot and post her up.

I'll form a panel of judges to vote, say, every month on the coolest pic. The winner will get a hardy handshake and a toothy smile from us if we ever see ya

Get it goin', who's first?

Our SOPs state that the first daily duty of the first arriving firefighter is to raise the flag.

Brent Russell was an American politician and Army National Guard officer. He served as mayor of North Ogden, Utah from January 2013 until November 2018, when he was killed while serving in Afghanistan.

The city put this flag up for a week in his memory

It was an amazing feet,  I can’t remember the size of the flag but it was an absolute beauty to see every morning from the roof of the homes we built right below the canyon

The one on the ground is Sgt Bret Isenhower (step son) in Afghanistan about a week before he was KIA. His spotter (the white dog) would never leave his side when he was in camp but after he was killed the guys of his unit could never find the dog again.

This is my wife holding a flag with a streamer with Bret's name on it behind a poster with his picture. This is part of the "Blue Mile" at the Rock and Roll marathon in San Diego, the blue mile is put on by a organization call Wear Blue Run to Remember that supports runners that have lost loved ones in war

Ken, that gave me an idea

It would be nice to honor such people

Idea: We create a Real Man hall of honor

Where the readership (Except daves and other boneheads) ;-)), nominate truly exceptional candidates over a month long run. Then at the end of that time, say a "council" of active members here get to nominate say, 5 candidates from the pool. We then put those nominees up for a vote of the readership. The chosen man/woman is then inducted into our hall of honor with pictures and a nice write-up.

What do you guyz think about that?

Oh, and let's move this discussion over into the admin thread so as not to junk up this flag thread which is here to honor our flag and nation.

So, Daves, and everyone else, start a response over in the admin section please. If you can't get into the admin thread (Because I don't want you in there ;-)), then just PM me, your opinion is important to me!

This is the Oklahoma City Bombing memorial between the 2 and 3 tree there is an american flag in the distance. The lights under and around the trees are the chairs that represent one of the adult/children that lost their life in that bombing.

Crew chief on the U2 and wanted to marshal his aircraft out the morning after he found out his brother was killed in action and he went to escort his brother home. Part of the maintenance crew drew this tribute on the aircraft. Not a true flag but worth posting I think

I was at the ok bombing site shortly after the cleanup. I still remember  standing in the road where the fresh asphalt patch was from the crater repair.  those chairs send chills up your spine too.  Freaking daycare on the first floor.  Sick person McVey was.

JR, it was painted, then the artist washed over it with the brownish/green tint to make it appear old and weathered.

it was just painted last summer!

Today 10 years ago was the last time we got a message from our hero. He told us that he would be home before Christmas. He was leaving on his last mission. God bless the USA and place a hedge of protection around our military.

Good pic
...American Warrior!

He is what the world who hates us fears
   Really!
Average guy who sets his life aside, climbs into a uniform and becomes a warrior
Nothing scares these guys
Nope, you hear a boom, and next thing
These brave men jock up, turn toward the sound and go hunting
The world should fear men who are driven by principal and not forced to pick a gun and fight
and they do...

Thanks for raising him right and sharing him with us.  It may not seem like it if you look at the news or what is going on in the country and world right now, but the nation shares your loss, Especially his brothers in arms.

Not to go all political in this thread but I feel that is why so many people would like to attack our rights to own firearms.

Matt, Thank you I have to say it has been a little hard this year with everything that has been going on and how we left. There are a few thing that have always gotten us through
1) Brett was doing what he wanted to do and he was good at it.
2) There is a time that is appointed for us to die
3) Brett knew the Lord and we will see him again

Thanks again
Steve
