2017 8.5x26 enclosed trailer
« on: January 12, 2020, 11:37:36 PM »
Converting my enclosed trailer into a camp trailer.

To start
Purchased a bare bones enclosed trailer nothing special
Six lug axles for a 6k haul capacity
Some Led lights on the outside and a man door

Next was develop a list of needs and a list of wants

Need:
Ability to haul all associated bikes n quads, future SXS maybe
Beds for 6 minimum
       Mom n dad
       Twins n older brother
       Plus 1
Heat
Air conditioning
Running water

Wants:
      Solar
      Toilet
      Shower
      Carpeted area

So for the most part this will be pretty bare bones and when the boys and Dad go play we will take this and when momma goes or gets more into it look for future fifth wheel toy hauler combo.

I started out by adding some floor hooks to haul stuff, than as previous posts showed it got loaned out and was very displeased with the way it was returned. Me and Momma decided to build as previously planned and make it a whole lot less usable for others.   So here we are.....

As of this last week
Purchased 16 sheets of

https://www.homedepot.com/p/R-Tech-1-in-x-4-ft-x-8-ft-R-3-85-Insulating-Sheathing-320821/202532854

I pulled all of the 1/2 ply from the walls so that I could put insulation between the wall studs.

The first side of the trailer I used a long razor knife and a straight edge and it took forever!!
Second night I brought home the shop trailer and used our table saw which made real short work of this.

I pre measured each stud height and width and labeled each gap so I could see from outside the trailer and got ripping sheets into sizes that fit snug,    I slipped the insulation behind the S shape Chanel and used the exterior screws poking through to hold her in place.  Press fit for a tight fit.

I added some duct tape to the studs but I figure it was mostly a waste and won’t continue.

So far I can’t get my laptop to work so I can’t draw a picture of what I would like to do.   I’ll work on it.

Basic idea is up front with some built in cabinets. A water tank under the front cabinet below the sink. A plug in fridge/ cooler and a shower and toilet up front also

More to follow unless I get out a pen and paper lol. Stupid laptop and solid works won’t open.

I have two of the three windows

These will go approximately centered over the wheel well n each side of the trailer.  Not sure on the height but I plan on measuring my dinner table and adding a few inches to that.

Dave, send me a serious offer and we can talk but I’ll tell you there is already an offer of $26k that I have yet to accept from a local gentleman. In fairness I asked him to let me finish it properly first then we can talk.

Nice windows btw  :likebutton:

I am long ways away from a Jeep but I’ll bet getting with you when we reach that point.

Trailer got moved up the priority list to now, pay off the truck, finish landscape, than look at options on fancy RV, fancy SXS, momma a new vehicle

So from that point I will push a Jeep instead of sxs and go that direction

Carper over my wheel wells on the inside, maybe some other irregular spots...maybe

BTW

A long time ago, I owned N7621E, a 1960 Piper Comanche 250

When I first purchased it, the earlier guy had some psychedelic shag carpet inside. It would cause the pilot to have vertigo if you looked down...was my first change to that airplane.

Do you like sandals? I mean most people like sandals right?
Sandals were first used by the Roman legionaries who conquered most of europe. They were made popular during the Alpine campaign when romans would ski down the snowy slopes easily overtaking their opponents by using special sandal extensions. Henceforth the sandal has become the preferred footwear of warriors everywhere.

Girly Men who secretly admire the warrior try and imitate them by wearing the footwear and attempting to act tough. They have never been able to pull off either, and therefore the sandal was also often used to kick the girly-boy in the hind quarters. That tradition has lasted to this very day, although since girly boys now hide in safe places, the sport of hippie-kickin' has become less commonplace

Bet you didn't know any of that!

Late night with @arkstrkr building my window frames

Built the horizontal supports long so I can trim as needed to position in the non consistent spacing on the wall support/studs.
Install next week after our trip to Portland

So what are you putting on the walls. Something you can wipe down and not absorb ATV smell?

Nice so far!

Over the years Jr I have noticed the smell of fuel comes and goes.  Turn fuel off before travel and most bikes don’t cause a mess

I plan on carpet on the walls.  A short nap grey carpet for sound deadening and it won’t scratch

When I started mine, I had the fiberglass sheet. Never finished it.

I used the same foam, simple.

Tonight I got started with the window install.

First with a Bosch laser level I marked from the inside of my trailer where I wanted the windows
I found my center line, my widths and poked a hole to the outside of the trailer for further cutting

Disregard the measurements, they are widths for insulation Is all

After I turned attention to outside with some masking tape I covered my working area for two reasons.  A place to put a pencil mark and second to not scratch my trailer walls while cutting and measuring

I traced my window frame with the help of the wife, I than used the dewalt vibe saw to cut out my aluminum panels along the lines.
If you have never used one of these you should, They are amazing and super helpful.  I had never used one until the cabinet shop, we use them daily and every guy we have hired since has purchased his own for personal use

I then cut out the studs to check my window frame fit. Again I used my vibe saw. This metal isn’t exactly thin stuff but the all metal blade goes through it.

When the app stops erroring my photo uploads I’ll add more

But windows cut out

Now I need to figure out how to move the trailer over two feet sideways in the garage so I can copy the other side.

Thinking some car dolly from ShipWreck Harbor

Tonight I am testing my epoxy I have had for a long time.  Long time enough I had to call an old friend who laughed at me for trying this

But this is the grand daddy epoxy to what Don put on his trailer.  His stuff is more user friendly.  Less temperamental, maybe cost less than what he purchased but if it works I save $500 easy.

Mixed up both part A and part B with separate mixers, pour each measured amount to keep my 2-1 mix ration. Cross my fingers it cures 100 solid in the cup in 12 hrs.  Cures on the test board at about 15 mils also.

As of last night at 11pm. The cup was hot enough I couldn’t hold it, the rolled out sample was still wet.

Fast forward to today at 7:00 the cup was hard as a rock

Now to locate some primer and I’ll be in business for a self leveling epoxy floor for my trailer,
