Let me start off with I haven't gotten under the truck to check connector or wiring. Also there is only 900 miles on the oil.
Yesterday I started up the truck let it warm up to about 80 deg and it had steady oil pressure but when I started driving down the road I noticed the oil pressure started sweeping from about 60 PSI to 8 PSI all at a steady RPM. Pulled over and the oil pressure stayed steady. Started driving again and it started the sweeping again. Once the engine warmed up to 183 deg it stopped the sweeping. Did the same today. The sweeping os on the dash and on my CTS. I think it is wiring or the sending unit itself, but was wondering if there could be anything else?

The most reliable way to check is to tap a port right by the oil filter housing and run a mechanical gauge into the cab to reference against the electrical one. Given the problem seem temperature dependent I would say sending unit since it operates on a pressure activated rheostat.

Agree with Tex.
...but I would just buy a new pressure switch and replace it if it's easy to change (pretty sure it's near the oil filter on an lly). ..$25-30.00

And there’s the difference between “smart” and smart. I give you theory and Ken just solves the problem for less money than it would take to test it....

ordered the pressure sending unit will let you know if it fixes the issue. But drove the truck today and didn't have any issues.

any tricks to swap this sending unit? By looking at it looks like a PIA to get a socket or wrench on it

Sorry Steve... don't remember the last one I changed but thought it was fairly easy, compared to the rest of a dmax.

Okay will do it tomorrow or Monday all the kids and grandkids are coming over in a few hours for steaks. Celebrating all the December birthdays while everyone is in town

Just for info, my 2006 LBZ holds pretty steady at 40psi when warmed up.
Rotella 15/40 regular oil, 205k miles and I run a bypass filter (oil stays clean for 5k)

I didn't get to work on it today ended hauling hay for the father in-law and just got home. But the oil pressure was steady the whole time. Maybe tomorrow

Got it up in the air today and took about 1 1/2 hours of talking very sweet and loving with can of brake cleaner on top to get the electrical connector off. Only to find that the on-line order book listed GM part number 12677839 is not the correct part number my sensor is GM part number 98027456 put the connect back on didn't take as long and now to fill out the RTA and order the correct one. Kind of feels like a Monday!
