In a few more years the metal 3D printing should come down to the point where almost anything can be produced at home.

Now, if only the 3D metal parts printers were widely available...

The military is already procuring 3D printers that use a metal powder to print intricate parts that are supposedly stronger than forged steel. The idea is to limit shelf stock. You need a part to fix a tank, jet, helo? Print it in a few hours and slap that sucker on.
