Title: DPMS Oracle
Post by: KensAuto on July 21, 2016, 12:29:44 PM
Can you guys give me some input on these? Just looking to stock up this weekend...they're cheap(ish), and readily available.

Looks better than some of the optic ready ones i have seen before

I've never ran one, but these do not appear to have M4 feed ramps by the description. Friend of mine had a low end gun w/o them & it was pretty picky on ammo it would shoot.

That's a pretty good price for sure. I was just hoping to walk in somewhere to purchase in person. I've never bought a gun without seeing it first.

Shouldn't have any problems with it. I don't like the gas block instead of a FSB but that's just me.

Yeah, I get that. Not my personal favorite either, but I probably won't ever take them out of the box.

I've never had a bad purchase via AIM, stand up company. I've bought several firearms off them over the years from surplus stuff to new firearms & everything in between. I'm sure they have a transfer dealer near you as well.

I have this model, never had a problem with it always fed anything I ever put thru it but I don't buy a lot of cheap ammo either.

Thanks guys. Just checked with the local cal ranch and they have several "cheapos" on the shelf, including both the oracle and the andersons. Might have to take a lunch break here shortly!

Why don't you just buy the parts and put one together yourself? That way you get it exactly how you want. You seem pretty mechanically inclined   (;D) so you shouldn't have any problem building one. Probably come out close to the same price, assuming you shop around and look at the clearance section or the blemished items.

I have some 80% lowers ordered, but if I can get a couple(?) for 5 bills or so each, I may be able to triple my funds in a few months. :)

^^^ Is that an Ed Zachery quote?  ;D

If the Hillderbeast gets in gun sales will go up more then when Obummer did, and he has sold a Metric crap load of them.

I wish I had time to understand the AR platform better, it's a bit out of my wheelhouse. I stick to bolt action long guns, more of a hunting habit thing i think.

I am getting close to maybe having one or two of this type in the collection soon as well. Sounds like I need to do some fact finding/research as well but I don't feel the need to be an expert on them, just know how to handle and service them properly. You know, just in case...... Like my Cousin.. Justin Case.

Flatlander, I posted up a good article today that reflects on why you should move to larger capacity firearms. This coming from a guy who carried wheel guns more than any other model.

All I know about ARs is how to pull the trigger, and where to spray wd40 when it quits going bang. haha

..and I now have a couple more in the collection. yeeeehaw

Slightly, maybe......

All I can say is u musta went to the Hillary firearms training for dummies seminar......

However, I have a good friend who has a couple 10/22 rugers that all he has ever done to them is sprayed the action heavy enough that Wd-40 poured out the end of the barrel & hung them up by the stock to let them drip dry. He does this after every hunt or shoot & they always work the next time, no joke.

So, does anyone know the essential ingredient of WD-40.
The stuff that made this formula, test formula #40 a keeper?

Yes, good ole fish oil.
So, even though it is a better cleaning solution, it does have the fish oil to repel water and provide minimal lubricant.

We have a winner!

Yup, fish oil!

Another useless factoid.

In the "Posi" differentials of old, around the 60's ish to prevent the chattering of the clutch plates, GM would have you add a pint of friction modifier to the oil back there.

That fluid was Whale Oil!

If your buying these as investments I would also consider the stripped down Colt model, MSRP on those right now is $700, they can be had pretty close to what the DPMS units are going for.  Just a thought.

Locally, and at cabelas/basspro in phoenix are both out of colts, armalites, and bushmasters...colt was my first choice.

I ended up with these from cal Ranch, 2 andersons and a ruger. I really like the ruger for the price. I guess they had dpms 308s for 799 last week and ran out (darn it);

Okay so total dot here....isn't the lube ability of WD-40 an accidental side effect? "WD" stands for Water Displacement and it was designed to keep things dry....yes that's how it prevents/reduces rusting bit it was not designed as a lube per se. Not that it matters I s'pose.... ::)

I was kidding on the wd40 thing mr Wil....well almost. When I was a kid, I used it quite a bit on my old marlin 22. Cleaning wasn't part of my skill set back then.(only a small part now. lol) It's actually a pretty bad lubricant.
