Lord God, please bless all who have served to keep my family safe from the various threats that exist in this world. Keep them in your heart and take care of them and take care of their families who also serve with courage just as the service members do. Amen
I was at a funeral yesterday for a family member who was a medic during Korea. While sad it was his time with cancer and dementia. I was fine through all of the services with the exception of two parts....in the Church the service ended with the Star Spangled Banner being sung and at the gravesite the honor guard played taps and then folded the flag for his widow. Both of those parts left me crying. I went to thank the honor guard afterwards and could hardly get the words out. :-[ They do so much in that role. The reverence with which they do their duty is amazing and makes such an impression.
ETA: I am pleased that this will be the last year the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is desecrated by Obama......
