Thanks JR, my rule with motorized atv's or go carts etc was I only allowed one out of the shop at a time. Guaranteed if you have two there will be a wreck. My kids proved this theory just a week ago with their bicycles. $60 later, new wheel on one bike and new tube on the other........

Actually, my neighbor had those and his boys loved em.

Welcome back Shawn!!!!

What are you building? / Re: Garage Lofts

So I started this evening on the loft since I had an extra set of hands from my twelve year old. From here out I can finish this myself.

prior to this I added more storage on the south wall earlier in the afternoon.

Currently its called patience, was supposed to be here last week. Kinda hard to build on something I haven't received as of yet. Not that it seems to be an issue a this thread has turned into a DOT'ed work of art........

But I agree, I've almost forgot why I bought it at this point.

edit: Tate, the girls loved this thing. Lots of good memories, it was funny to see how their unique personalities really shined thru when you put them on a gas powered vehicle and give them a small taste of freedom.

Tate, you need trainers?

Maybe we should call this a how to spend thread? Little about a build, just spending $$$ waiting for a delivery

Whats this about again???

SMH, call me whatever you like things ain't a changing now!

OK, called dealer this morning. Last of conversion parts are going on tomorrow. Will pick it up Friday and pass by the wonderful SPD to have them do a check and make sure it's road worthy so I can get it plated. So should have some snap shots and go over details of this unit shortly.

Restoring old tractors is good fun, hard on wallet and like pulling hundreds of dollars out of your pocket and setting them on fire.

I restored an Allis C to wide front and electric start 13 years ago and then I bought a WD45 and used it to log a woods. What an experience, makes you have a lot of respect for the guys who farmed with these machines.

I was 19 years old when my grandpa passed away, I happened to be living with him and my grandmother on their farm at the time. I took over farm upkeep on a WD45 and it gave me a whole new respect for those machines. I recall mowing one day and after getting beat on it came in sat down and fell promptly asleep. Once I woke up my grandmother all 5'3" and 120# told me how she used to plow the fields with that tractor in the spring to help my grandpa out.

Supposed to be about a bike that still hasn't showed up at my door, guess I better make a phone call and see what the hey is going on.

& no I don't have a following on CL, that was Don or Ken or somebody....... ;)

They might fit your CumminGs....maybe that's why it smokes so much, it has used Polaris pistons!

When we moved we killed cable as well, best descision we ever made. Only thing we miss is some sports, mainly NFL but going to invest in a digital antennae for the tv as all the Bronco games are on local channel & church has football nights where they play the games on the big screen in the worship area and bring in a half dozen food trucks to vend supper. Last turn out had 300+ people attend.

Killed the cable a while ago, gotta wait for FTWD to hit Hulu or Netflix.  All these spoilers on season 6 are killing me!

I also buy/sell on Craigs quite a bit out here in WA... biggest pain is lowballers.

Just had my old wheels and tires from the LBZ on there for $400, and can't even count how many texts i got that said "will you take 200?".. no hello, no hi i'm interested in your tires... just straight lowball fishing offer. One of these times i'm going to say "sure dude meet me at ____ at 9pm and you can have em"... and then wait for the next text from my recliner  ;D ;D ;D

Buddy of mine flips used vehicles on there. Every time he gets a will you take this amount he adds $500 to original price and counter offers........ ???

Sounds like a liberal Don.  All about diversity, inclusion, and tolerance....until you disagree with them....then they want to shut you down...

Don, the back story to that Vaseline comment is that we call that homoslist back in Indiana. Cause no one ever sells anything on there. You just get guys texting you with no money who want to trade you for some video game or a set of bald tires from their moms 84 Honda. In the end I really think they're just trolling for a date.....

Good church sermon yesterday, 2 Timothy 2:1 was just sharing is all definitely wasn't my idea by any means..... ;)

Well, since I've ah been a slackin I can head that up. Where do you want it? Lets get some more feedback but I think you're on the right track anyhow.

Good trajectory Shawn

Haven't we all discussed before making a thread of trusted retailers?

Wouldn't be a bad idea if someone wants to jump on it

Conditions would be that first we separate it into broad categories, such as groceries, auto parts, hardware, medicine, services, and whatever. Then if you actually make a recommendation for or against, you would have had to first done the research to be sure you are right.

comments/ideas/criticisms?

I'm not a coffee person really, has to be really cold out or I don't touch it and I'm too cheap to buy $5 iced coffee's as I don't enjoy them enough to pay the cost. Now my wife makes up for my lack of coffee and it cost me a $600 coffee maker to get her to give up Starbucks. When we moved where we are now she lucked out and there are two Christian locally owned shops she can choose from.......

Edit: and make no mistake this is a fight that we are engaged in here. Many aspects to soldiering and I'm sure the real soldiers here on the board can attest to that as well.

IMO, one of the largest ways you an help protect yourself is to spend your money wisely. I have always been involved in my families finances. However I now run them entirely. We refuse to spend our money towards causes that continue to attack our way of life. Whether it is Christianity or Family or you name any other moral cause. Not sure what I mean? Have you bought Starbucks recently? If you have and still don't get what I'm saying please google Howard Schultz and see what he is politically promoting with your funds. Again this is not for the regulars here but those who may be passing through. In the end this is light versus darkness. Which side do you want to be on?

We try to do the same. Wife is primary one that runs the fiances but we don't make any purchases other than normal groceries with out consulting each other. I gave up star bucks entirely a couple years ago. That sucked. I love their coffee. I always try to buy American. When we re did the house everything came from the local lumber yard. Appliances came from the mom and pop store appliance store in town. Not many of them left.  There was not lowes, home depot, menards. It is so hard. As for electronics there is no buy American. Its all made over seas. I do try to opt for made in Japan over China, Mexico, etc.

you mean you don't want to get yelled at while laying in the ER bed while your wife is inflicting torture on you in some way shape fashion or form for making her worry about you.................? ;D

Funny story, wife was working as a unit secretary part time in a small local er prior to her entering nursing school. I was converting kitchen pantry into first floor laundry closet. Using a hole saw that had straight screw driver style set screw instead of Allen style to hold drill bit in hole saw. Grabbed broken nasty tipped screw driver. Ended up slicing web in right hand between thumb & pointer finger. Bleeding pretty good go back up stairs & wash it out & ask wife for towel to wrap it up. So she starts flipping out gunna have mom come over so she can drive me to er. I wasn't having it, wife claimed if she didn't drive me I wouldn't go. So I drove myself towards er, right before I get to er there is a 4 way stop. Took a min & looked at hand, bleeding had tapered off so I went right by er to Walgreens & bought $20 worth of butterfly's & neosporin. Wrapped it up & drove home. Get home wife looks at me & says you never went to ER did ya? I said yeah but they took one look at me called me a sissy then told me to go to Walgreens buy some bandages & neosporin. Wife's response "really?"

Nice Ken you crazy ol koot! I try to stay out of the ER, wife works there and definitely don't need to deal with her anymore than I already have to...... ::)

Shawn,  you mean like this? I slapped it together a few years ago. It was supposed to go all the way across. ...above the garage doors  (3 car). The center 2x4s go up to outer roof joists, and I was going to do that for all of the hangers eventually (with actual bolts) but got lazy. Those are 1-1/2" screws......they've held my weight a few times.  Lol

The back of those are screwed into studs, no nails for this.

I would trust several hundred on each one easy.

When you say "screwed" you mean lag bolts?

Copy, when I think screws I naturally think drywall or deck screws......

Heavy screws, 3x10. SDS or lags would work too. Never had one come loose.

One of my main problems is everything I have that I want to store weighs quite a bit. Those two racks I used over the garage door area max out at 250# each which is fine for tackle boxes and a couple tubs with not much in them. They are also hanging from the ceiling so I get it. The reason for these lofts is to hold a lot more weight (things like the CRF50 bike etc) which is why I will incorporate posts along walls to support the additional weight so that I don't end up with load shear and a big mess on the floor.

Ok, gunna post these before photos now. Otherwise I will start and forget to take any. Basically what you see is the back corner of my front two bays of my garage. I basically have a 3.5 car garage, 2 up front and 1.5 added in the rear of those. I am going to build a little loft in this corner above the (soon to be compressor, waiting on parts from eaton compressor now) and over rated drill press / mill. Once I have this completed I will be building another loft at the back of the 3rd car garage spanning the width which is around 13'-14' and it will be 4' deep.

Yes, I will do a build thread on the compressor as well. Soon as parts show up via the big 18 wheeler.......

Ouch, haven't had that problem yet thank goodness.....

Good luck.  I have had similar but with my basement walls.  Framers did 2 foot centers and no drywall backing.   I can't ever catch two studs for a shelf and if you lean into a corner you pop the drywall. :(

So due to the fact that the rack ceiling mounts wouldn't come anywhere near touching a truss with the black diamond layout I had to add the garage door opener style angle with the holes to the ceiling and then attach rack to this. It works and holds up to 250# above the garage door which was dead space before. All in all a good storage idea, new lesson learned check spacing of joists before purchasing.

Lumber just arrived for next overhead loft, stay tuned as I will be completing this addition next week..........

Ok, so down sizing has me running out of room real quick. I started by buying a couple of overhead ceiling mount racks from Lowe's. Which after I was done modifying them to fit cost me twice as much as initially budgeted. You see this is twice now that the black diamonds on a tape measure have bit me in the rear. Black diamonds you ask? Yeah take a standard tape measure and look at the 19.2" mark. There should be a small black diamond. These are known as metric marks or 5 equal spaces for every 8'. Yeah forget 16" on center or 24" on center some brilliant knucklehead came up with the diamond idea. My first run in with them was years ago building our first ranch home. We used engineered floor joists to span a 30' basement. Laid them out and nailed them at 24" center to end up with a couple extra and have to cut them loose and then read instructions telling us that it was that blasted diamond spacing.  >:(

So on to this weeks experience. Garage ceiling or floor joists of master bedroom are the black diamond spacing. Buy overhead garage kit from Lowe's. Sorry, not engineered for black diamond spacing....... So do I take them back for a refund? Nope that's too easy, I just go buy mo' parts and pieces.

And yes, it's been hotter than the gates of heck down here....  We broke two daily high temps in one week.  Hit 94 one day, then 98 a few days later.  I know it's fall, but feels like July to us...  Hasn't rained since May.  Finally supposed to get 3-5" this weekend.   ;D

Told ya he was a whining! ;)

1911, yeah they are reliable (usually) and 100+ year old technology....

Now there is a lot to be said for running what you are familiar with, I'll be keeping my 870 too....

However, Don has made some really good arguments for Glocks over the years. I have big paws so as far as handling they don't bother me. I guess run whatever you are comfortable with but I am a proponent of having multiple calibers at your disposal. I never like having all my fish in one basket.

That's why i don't own a Glock. Too many numbers.
