What do you do when a cold snap is blowing in and it’s just nasty cold and raining? I personally take a 2 hour drive one way to pick up a grapple bucket new in the shipping crate. Not to mention stored indoors for 40 cents on the dollar….. score!

Looks like a few more trees are coming down. Haven’t seen much low  brush growing so must be limbs and tree parts to be cleaned up in your future

That and general moving of the logs, forks are ok but the logs slide everywhere. We have quite a few dead and pulled stumps around the property that need rounded up too most likely later this year.

While in Idaho I stopped at HD and bought three 48” wide x 24” tall windows for the machine shop. I need to go thru framing material quote this weekend and figure out where I’m purchasing that material next week.

I'd take that drive
Blue Diamond, low flow?
I have one like that
and when closing the grapple, it is almost like a guillotine. Maybe you can adjust your hydraulics. I have considered placing a flow restrictor in line to those cylinders.
I have closed mine on a 10" flat stone and chopped off a piece by accident.

Copy, I’ll test it. This is a chinaman unit but it weighs almost 800# and seems stout with decent welds for china chit. I sent a text to my jcb dealer to get a set of quick attach fittings ordered.

I’d been trying to buy one of these for $2k used for awhile here semi locally then this one popped up for a steal.

Nice find. I have a build on mine someplace. I like the open bottom style, mines chinaman too, just 65in though.

Mine works great on roadways, better than the smooth bucket most of the time.

That’s what I wanted JR and 66” but the cheapest I could find one around here used was almost $1k higher in price.

I figure if I need an open bottom I have a torch!

I ordered the two quick connect fittings, about $150 shipped to my door.

Finished framing walls today, rain / snow due in later this evening and over next two days so wanted that part buttoned up. Plan is to hang the lvl main beam for roof peak Weds/Thursday most likely and then start cutting and hanging rafters.

Started framing out the roof structure. Won the lottery in that the top of existing garage wall plate was 3/8” shy of where I had planned on setting the main roof beam. So I lowered it 3/8” and that’s where it sits now.

Slight update on the shop / property electrical. After dealing with the local supply outlet trying to get a 400 amp meter base and two outdoor 200 amp main breakers w/ enclosures (they kept trying to sell me two 200 amp main panels) at a cost of $1800+. I ended up buying only the 400 amp meter base from the local supply house for $483 I then started searching online for sq d 200 amp breaker w/ outdoor enclosure. After about an hour of back n forth with two Home Depot stores in Sandpoint & Couer D’Alene ID I confirmed each had one in stock and paid for them with a card over the phone (website due to low inventory would not let me purchase as employee had to put hands on unit). I bought both for $204 each put the door. Grand total sub $900…….

This worked out well as I had agreed to buy this new auger w/ 14” bit for $1200 from a guy over in CDA. In addition we needed to do a winco / Costco run which we complete once every 8 weeks or so to stock up on things.

Progress!

Thanks, been cold here last 3 days so no outside work. I did brace inside the old garage under the main beam for machine shop.

Then I worked on bills, taxes, a website update, concrete wall layout for the big shop (door locations, monolithic footer area, increased slab thickness in 3 spots and plumbing rough in along with ufer ground location). I then ordered trusses, electrical permit and a decent sized dump trailer. Made a deal to sell enclosed trailer next week too.

Tomorrow is back to framing eves and getting ready to sheet roof of machine shop.

I agree, it’s scheduled. Right after I get all my tools relocated from Colorado shop to Montana and that place in Colorado sold. Then I can start making money again versus just spending it.

All jokes aside it’s cold and nasty here so my time is best spent doing these things right now. I did go wolf hunting a couple weeks ago. Got skunked and managed to bury a Toyota tundra but it was a good day in the woods.

It is to an extent but there’s other issues in the background which I have not mentioned as of yet.

I’m getting my ducks in a row and consulting a lawyer. We have covenants here where I live. The realty is I think I’m the only one whom is being held to them or better stated current homeowners are held to what the developer believes is ok, even if it’s not in the rules or conflicts with said rules. I’ve found several instances where the developer disregarded his own rules if it benefits his wallet. He did this on my property where he blatantly broke the rules when he built my cabin. Yet, when I went to get approval for my shop he is making me adhere to the letter of the rules. Now he’s asking for leniency on another matter in which he planned poorly.

With that said I’m ok with an hoa and rules but everyone needs to follow them. I don’t like dictators or in this case bullies. The more I interact with the developer and things he’s done the less I like him. Frankly, I think he’s a bit of a snake and not very intelligent in the way he’s approached a couple things.

I personally have a background in property development as my wife and I owned a company that did just that in Indiana for a period of time. In fact we still own several building lots there. So more of a holding company at this point. I’m not impressed, not familiar with Montana property rights and at this point spending money to get more experience.

So cold snap last week, then melting snow yesterday and about 4” of snow today. It’s been slow going trying to get the last single rafter built, the end walls filled in with upper wall joists, outriggers on and some facia attached. A couple days of good weather would have double my progress I believe. Just want to get to sheeting it and some ice shield and underlayment down.

Yup, just like a house foundation. It’s a chitty soil thing, after looking at options and cost it was within a couple thousand to do the knee walls (I get a 18-24” rat wall too this way along with taller ceiling height) versus pole barn style as I’m framing this 2x6 x 16’ walls. One end of pad has nice gravel foundation other end was crappy clay stuff. We also ran into water (high water table) at clay end and then started hauling in pit run to stabilize the clay. That worked and it’s on a good footing now. At one point we were discussing 24” wide footer in the end we were able to do a 16” wide standard footer.

Decent weather today, supposed to be almost 40 degrees. Hanging outriggers and facia. These 8 pockets get cut so the long outriggers can lock into the secondary rafter. Yes, those may have been cut with a chainsaw….

I’m extending this area of roof over door so I get less wet in the winter as I enter / exit the building. Can’t extend them all the way down due to low side eve’s and location of sidewalk.

Other than hanging a stringer on the back wall of existing garage to support sheeting the roof structure is done. Yeah, I need to box corners under eves and hang soffit but that can be done in nicer weather. Next up is sheeting and underlayment, as well as ordering roof steel and trim pieces.

They poured the walls this past Monday. Today they set the thawzall to keep the inside slab area from freezing. They’ll be adding fill and getting it ready to pour shortly. Snow on the way in this evening and 3-5” over the weekend.
