This demonstrates how weak minded the human population has become. SMH. This is tragic, but I am unable to understand how anyone could be convinced to do something so permanent, especially by someone you've never met in person.

My big reason for not going lithium, is I don't want to put money in China's pockets. LOL

I've spent quite a bit of time offroad in the western deserts, and in the southeastern hills. Several times I've been in a situation where I got a flat, or lost a bead, and needed a spare. Once, I lost a bead in a rocky stream. That needed the spare so I could get to a location where I could reseat the bead on the original tire. I've also been off road with a guy who didn't have a spare. That caused a 3 hour ride to turn into a 12 hour PIA while we scrounged to find something suitable to get the dude off the trail. Remember, a spare is also for the rim. If you damage your primary rim beyond its capability to hold air, you're done. That's one of the reason I like steel wheels, you can hammer on them a bit, unlike aluminum. ;-)

Mine may be due to oversize tires. I've used my tuner to calibrate the speedo, but don't know if that affects the roof computer display. So, when I'm curious, I fill up until the level of fuel is even with the bottom of the filler neck (to ensure fill-up repeatability) and do the math. LOL

Don, I wouldn't rely on the computer MPG reading. Do it by hand to get a true reading. My computer regularly shows I'm getting 28 MPG average, when the math shows 18. ;-)

Ya need to do something about that fan shroud. If your Cummins keeps seeing that powerchoke label, it may start believing it is one. Then you'll lose 100hp and have other problems brought on by insecurity! A little bit of time now with a carpet knife may save you a world of headache later! LOL!

62
Yeah, I think he'd be better served to get airborne right out of basic. He'll get air assault at Campbell. Then, after a bit of time training/learning, he'll get his ranger slot.

And it's ASVAB - Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery.

63
Sounds like he's got it figured out, for now!

Isn't yours either 650 or 850 torque? And how do you think that answers your daily needs?

Mine stock is 325hp, 610 lbs ft or torque, with the 6spd manual. I've pulled a little over 10k on the bumper through the hills on TN and never had an issue. With the tuner in tow, or performance mode, I've probably got a bit more power torue, but I generally use the stock setting unless on a long highway road trip. Those setting don't like to lug in traffic, bringing my mpg down (cause I'm lazy sometimes and don't downshift at the "optimum" points, LOL). I've never felt the need for more power/torque.

65
See? That's what happens when you're always talking about "Special Operators"! LOL! You should've been taking him to the airfield and putting a stick in his hand!

I'm sure he'll do well! And, he can always change his mind and go for WOCS/Flight School towards his ETS.

Nice truck, Don! It's the younger brother of mine, and the same color. Mine is the same color, 16 years older, with a ton more miles! LOL

67
Good. That'll give him the time to replace the mass he lost recently. He now knows the standard for the RAC, and can practice. I'm sure he'll skate thru the next one!

68
It came up fast, but the kiddo starts the Ranger Assessment Course, a 4-day test on Tuesday.
He will be evaluated by taking a standard PT test, a swim test, a 5-mile run, a 12-mile ruck march with a 75 lb. ruck, night patrolling, and day/night land navigation along with some weapons evaluations.
He is concerned because he lost 12 pounds during the EIB test and has only regained some of that weight. He is working out constantly but reports his knees are not in the best condition. He was eating and drinking a protein shake the whole time we were talking.
If he completes the evaluation, he will be given a Ranger course date for this summer.
Best to ya son, go get 'em!

Outstanding!

69
I believe the course is the Ranger Training Assessment Course (RTAC). One of those courses the ARNG developed to prep our guys for Ranger School, which did so well it was incorporated into the Active force. It's taught by the ARNG Warrior Training Center here at FBGA, along with Air Assault, Pathfinder, and the pre-master gunner courses for Abrams/Bradley.

Good for him! He's definitely got his eye on the prize, and knows what he wants. It's just a shame he had to decide to be a crunchy.

In coming episodes he gets back to his native Harlan county where the character comes fully into his own.

So, I spent a lot of time doing the south-east version of rockcrawling (rocks, with a bit of mud LOL) in my CJ. I run 36x13.50 swampers on 15x10" steely rims, no beadlocks. With those rims and tires, I usually air down to 7-10 PSI and have yet to bust  a bead. They have stiff sidewalls, though. You can hardly tell they are that low by looking at them. I'd think you'd be okay down to 15 PSI.

Nice purchase! I have the opposite experience with the M9. I had 3 of them fail on me in Iraq. Also, for me, the M9 is the most non-ergonomic pistol I have ever used. Total POS in my experience. LOVE my 1911s. Liked the Glocks I've owned.

I don't see this ever happening. Too many moral issues. Not to mention, will probably lead to more frequent wars. What limits you from going to war when you've got little risk of losing Soldiers?

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say it's THE NEW ABRAMS. It's a technology demonstrator. Coolest part of it is the diesel/electric power pack.
OK, I stand corrected. I thought that thing was a done deal.
Not liking the idea of an autoloader
Ever see the MBT-70 which kept its whole crew of three in the turret?
Having been a tanker I think the crew of four (for maintenance and thrown track times) and for fixing things that won't shoot and just dividing up the tasks proportionally is the right solution. The M1A2 series seems to be working quite well with it's arrangement of 4 crewmembers

It does. The autoloader is coming, even if we stick with a more traditional style M1. Reason is the increased weight and length of the newer main gun rounds make manual loading much slower than it is now. There will always be a manual loading option, though. The army leaders are pushing for a crew of 3 for a couple reasons. 1: with an autoloader, you don't need 4, 2: with the current manning issues, there have to be cuts somewhere. I'd rather have a 4 tank platoon with 3 man crews than a 3 tank platoon with 4 man crews. 3 is the no less than number, though.

On a side note don't we still have a large stockpile of armor in Saudi? I knew we did in years past but not sure if it was still there(I think it was to expensive to bring back so the US made a deal for storage)

There used to be prepo stocks in KW. They were divested 2 years ago.

« on: September 06, 2022, 03:15:37 PM »
Within the last year or so. Problem is, how long would it take to charge? Kinda hard (I think) to service station ressupply a recharge in the same amount of time as we currently refuel. Having a recharge vehicle for every tank would increase our log chains. We'll still need fuel for the smoke generators, too. I think the best bet would be to go to a diesel hybrid electric. BAE is testing that on a Bradley right now. We'll see how it goes.

That Tesla semi is impressive.

I think JR has it right. At this point with no real commercial charging nexus in place, it will be slow out of the sales gate (Maybe).

But I'll bet some savvy trucking firms will set up regular point-to-point routes with these trucks and immediately start becoming more profitable. As long as it makes money the guberment will find electricity simply because they can tax a positive cash flow operation. You may not have juice for the toaster in the morning, but these trucks will continue to move.

Now I want to see an electric main battle tank! That will be a test to see just how strong these propulsion units are.

The Army explored this for the Next Gen MBT. Industry consensus was they couldn't make a battery pack big enough to provide the duration needed for combat. At least with current/emerging technology.

LOL! Some good one's Big D!

I've done the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge, in addition to the Norwegian. The GAFB worried me, as I had three days notice of the event. I thought the PT portion would be difficult (the first event) as that is what really determines what level badge you get. I did well enough to earn silver. The ruck was easy, with a 40lb pack.

So, I figured the Norwegian with only a 25lb pack would be a breeze. That pace is pretty freaking killer! You've pretty much got to average a 12 min mile pace. LOL!

Tried to go to airborne, was told no need for tankers to jump out of planes. Really wanted to go to pathfinder, but by the time I had time, I was past the maximum grade. LOL. Never really had the desire for ranger school. Thought hard about, and got actively recruited for SF. But, I realized I was already too broke down physically for selection.

98
The Norwegian Foot March is no joke. I've done it twice. First time I missed the qual time by 5 minutes. I did it cold, with no prep. LOL! The second one, I trained a bit!

The TM3P car has its first big test Saturday. I planned a weekend getaway trip with Kat. The destination is a pretty good distance from any superchargers, so we'll just have to see.
I am employing the sink or swim learning technique. I figure the best way to see if all this is truly going to work, is to just get out there and start doing it.

Sounds to me like you're planning the old "honey, we're outta gas" trick on a cruise night so you have an excuse to "park". LOL!
