I met up with my medic from my last deployment back in 2010 for lunch.  he and his family are coming over for dinner tomorrow evening, so that meant i had to trim and season a 20lb angus prime brisket along with prep a italian noodle salad for tomorrow.

Shawn, my buddy actually lives just south of you down in colorado springs.

And just cause mike was crying the other day, so i thought i would rub it in...lol

Sounds like you now have more than one reason to come out for a visit, and let’s us not forget the biscuit co......

Cat was interested in something in the kitchen. Next thing I know my son says there is a bat in the house! Probably came in when the upstairs was left open over night.

Oldest boy coaxed it into a box but it jumped out when we were going to let it go, wife made a huge issue of it! I did make him put gloves on, they tend to have rabies.

got one to top that... 2wd S10 pulling a car trailer with what looked like some kind of 2/4 post lift AND a car on it. Rear bumper was almost dragging the ground. Didn’t get a chance to snap a pic, just wanted past him ASAP.

there is a small burner (like on your stove) at the bottom which give it the heat and also is used to make the smoke.  there is a little tray above the burner that you put the wood chips on.

I think the most they will get to is 275deg, anything above that is a miracle.

they work great for jerkey, summer sausage, pork butts for pulled pork.

HHI shelter cove harbor on mainland side of island, good place to drink and people / boat watch if you enjoy such things. When life is hectic it’s a nice change of pace, much slower. All summer they shoot fireworks over harbor on weds evening. Small amphitheater down the boardwalk has kids entertainment in the evenings featuring Shannon Tanner (read clean family friendly fun, pretty much whole island is in fact) who my kids have been engaging since they were knee high. A lot of activities can be booked out of this harbor as well and it has shopping / restaurants within walking distance. Beach is a 10-15 min bike ride or 5 min in car and half price of ocean front places. We’ve done both many times but shelter cove usually wins out due to access of entertainment etc.

If I have my way we will retire in low country SC......

BOBBY - we will be running by Maplewood Meats when we head home Friday morning - probably around 8am - 10am, let me know if you are free and wanting to meet. (meat-up!)

I was working Friday morning, and just signed into here so I just saw this.

No worries Bobby, we went a different way home to avoid traffic and construction North of Milwaukee......to instead go through it West of Milwaukee! - LOL  We cried to discover Maplewood is closed on Sundays on the way up, but glad the view Sunday as sacred.

What I did over the past week:

Drove Duramax North to Eagle River area to help buddy open Cabin and decompress from our jobs as Art Teachers: Many good kids with more "Glass Lickers" added to classes every year!

Went fishing three late mornings with the following results; caught nothing but small perch, followed by LOTS/LOTS of Smallmouth the next two times!  Fished spawn beds and shorelines in between.  (Mine are bigger!)

Met up with a co-worker who has a cabin on the Three Lakes Chain that connects with the Eagle River Chain of Lakes and cruised on his pontoon boat looking at the Hoytee Toytee lake homes interspersed with the old school cottages.

With NO cell reception or internet up at the cabin, we drove into town to get "reception" to report a power outage from a storm that knocked out power for several hours and call for service on the "discovered" malfunctioning back-up generator.  Upon seeing Nates post further taunting me with the brisket/Maker's post, we "one up-ed" him with a lake side BBQ featuring LARGE glass of Maker's Cask Strength over ice.

Came home Friday, leaving our three dogs at the buddy's house for the weekend (last three days) and took off to Detroit to attend my oldest daughter's baby shower.  Took the Son-in-law and two of his buddies to a place called "Detroit Axe" a restaurant/bar in the middle of their "Gay Town" section where their "Pride" festivities were in full swing. Food was good AND they have competitive AXE throwing!  Picture of his buddies, hatchets and targets - it was a blast, but we made the Son-in-Law late for the shower, but I got to re-live racing days getting him there in less than 15 mins. for what usually is a 20 min. trip!  Would have been ON TIME if all the flamboyant drivers weren't all trying to have me rear end them for driving like a bunch of prissy old ladies!  Now heading out to pick-up the Bumpus Hounds from my buddies!

Thanks Ken!  This particular lake has a solid population of Smallies and Walleye, though the latter are difficult to catch. Hopefully some idiot doesn’t introduce Muskey to it!  Indians spear the crap out of the walleyes in this lake as it is gin clear. Been known to dump them in the woods at times just to be spiteful.

Had a turkey in the smoker this afternoon. Wife likes it, or at least she says she does, but I thought it was dry. Reclaimed the garden where the morning glories were trying to take over then planted corn (peaches and cream), yellow squash, blue lake bush beans, and okra. Went to the parts store to get some stuff for the old red truck then mowed the yard before picking up the little one.

I should’ve taken a picture before I started. They were about to take over.

I had it up to 375 empty but it leaks smoke everywhere. Should work just fine in the summer but winter will be a different story.

Got a whole bunch of efficiency leaves on the rental car. I have no idea what that means but 50+mpg is cool.

Tuesday was not my day. Clutch went out in my truck. Since I’m down to one vehicle I didn’t have time to try and fix it myself, or so I thought. I limped it to the shop and had a coworker pick me up and take me to work. Then I lost my Spyderco Delica in a drug house on a full arrest call (How someone lays in a house full of 20 people long enough to get rigor I’ll never figure out). Then around 0300 we got a call in alarm at a residence for smoke detector activation. Dispatch let us know that one of the residents may be violent or AMS (altered mental status) so we asked for a PD unit. We could see smoke through the windows but nobody would answer the door. A family member showed up and told us that his son and grandson were inside so we had no choice but to pry opened a window to check it out. That cause the homeowner to throw open the door, which he was at the whole time, and threaten to shoot everybody that was in his yard. Our PD friends started skinning tasers and Glock 17s and things got real tense for a few minutes. On a bright note, once that was all over the homeowner got salty with his 70 year old Dad. Dad responded by grabbing the 36yo and body slamming him in the yard then holding him down until he apologized. PD was right there in case it went sideways but let Dad handle Jr for a few minutes. We got a good chuckle out of that after it was over.
The next morning I called my mechanic. Truck wasn’t near being done so that’s how I ended up in a rental car with hippie leaves on the dash.

I watched the fat one fill up the prius, while the small one rubbed down the passenger side with a dust wand......

Oh, not sure why I thought you posted that one. lol

Just dealing with a numb arm at the moment and trying to take it easy. Pain is tolerable.
