Pneumatic Nailer
« on: March 20, 2016, 08:51:16 PM »
So I smack dab in the middle of building the "Shed" down on the farm. I'm now working on framing up the second floor. My old Paslode nailer gave up the goat on me. Probably having shot a million nails with no oil had something to do with it, but never the less, I am nail gun free at the moment.

It's a bad thing, like being without a Harley, or worse yet, a bike at all!

So I'm going to pick up a framing nailer tomorrow.

Forget all the expensive ones this time. I think I'm going straight to HF and get the General Pneumatic 3-1 nailer. Hey it handles 2"- 3 1/2" nails and you can set it at 21 degrees, 28 degrees and 34 degrees. 21 is the standard so I'll likely stay right there and it shoots full head nails, I think, not the clipped head nails.
Plus 2000, 10 gage 3.5" ring shanked galvanized nails comes in at a very affordable $35.

Me to...Senco and porter cable.
I wanna see how long this HF lasts....I'm guessing that if it dies, it will be in the middle of an all out build of some sort.

I use a hammer. Due to the immense cost of hammers these days, I buy them used when I can find them.  ;D

I was collecting screw drivers in a former life. I'd go to auctions & purchase those $10-$20 "boxes" of tools & junk sitting on a hay wagon. I typically dos this to gain one or two $20-$30 tools. As such I ended up with several hundred screw drivers of various assortments.....

I don't know what the heck it is, but when I was a kid, I used to smack my hand or finger with my own hammer.

The condition persisted throughout my 20's-30's and 40's.

By that time I was spending so much time in stinky aircraft that my hammerin' on things was on the decline. Then I got retired (Retarded according to the M.R.S unit). So just a couple days ago I was knockin' out that roll pin from that bush hog drive shaft when I smack my hand with a blow that was not square and bounced sideways. So I'm havin' trouble typin' my W's, Q's, A's, 1's, 2's and 3's.

Some things never change

Me n' hammers...still not so good!

We always had great luck with the older version hitachi nailers, the framing crew was particularly hard on tools.  From falling off the roof to being used as a manual hammer to move I means.   They were spendy but we found them worth the cost to replace parts

Yesterday I ran several hundred 3 1/2" ring shanked framing nails through SYP with no problems. I used clipped head 34 degree nails this time. For the decking I picked up a case of the 2 1/2" 28 degree ring shanked clipped head nails.
I did add a drop or two of oil every time I reloaded three "Clips" of nails as part of habit forming. So far I'd say this is a good $117 pneumatic nailer...I'm happy!

I have had my HF framing nailer for a good 10 years. Never an issue. Went through my garage fire in 06, melted the case but the nailer is fine. HF even GAVE me another case after the fire.

Since then I have got an Senco reman coedless trim nailer, HF roofing nailer (did 2 roofs with it so far) and a bostich siding nailer. Never had an issue with any, little oil and 105psi.
