That's a pretty spiffy looking ride man......I am interested to see how you feel about that after getting some seat time. Those are becoming popular around here as ranch trucks.

Congrats on the new family member.

Just brought it home last night. It is 4WD, 3.0L diesel, the lower-end "Tradesman" trim level, Ram-box bed.

Nice truck Duane!  Careful filling it up, watched a Con-Agra salesman decorate his shoes in Iowa filling one up!  Goofy "burp" mid-tank.....

Thanks, everyone.  ED (Eco-Diesel) is my new daily driver.  It replaced a well-used 2004 Toyota Sequoia that we bought new.  This morning I had to drive back to the dealer, pick up some grass seed and straw bales at TSC and a few miscellaneous tasks.  Since I reset the mileage monitor yesterday, I have logged just over 100 miles, mostly rural driving.  Its averaging 27.5 mpg.   :)

The mileage is really appreciated because for 9 months of the year, we drive our 9yr old son 82 miles round trip 3+ times per week to the north side of Cincinnati for Ice Hockey.

I am really impressed with the Ram Box bed.  It is well engineered and very handy.  I'll have to post up some pictures of it.

I don't plan to do much to it initially, just drive it and get used to it.  It will lose the cheesy aftermarket chrome steps VERY soon.  It desperately needs a lift, but I will likely wait until I wear out the OEM tires and then I'll install 33 or 35 inch tires and a 2.5 or 4 inch lift.  I may also install a hard retractable tonneau so we can keep stinky hockey gear out of the cab.  I've been looking at the Bakflip G2.

Is there a small cooler in that bed?

I think it'd look good with the 4", but that's my opinion. But it does look nice. How's the ride/noise and etc? Just from what you've driven.

Nice looking New Ram. I will add that I have a backflip and love it. My son stands on it to wash the roof of my truck.

The ride is great, as good or better than the Sequoia and on par with my mother-in-law's Cadillac SRX or Don's v-DUB.

The engine noise inside the cab is pretty much non-existent. You can only hear or tell its a diesel if you are outside the vehicle or have the windows open.

You can use either of the bedside boxes as coolers, there is a drain plug at the bottom.  Lots of pictures of tailgaters using the ram box for this purpose.  I like the Ram Box holster myself, I will likely get one of these soon.

Me too.

I predict you will be in one of these soon, corresponding with the exit of the 'DUB.  Of course, you will opt for the Laramie Limited edition and it will be lifted with 35s before a month passes...

Duane,

Very nice Truck!

I have the Roll X tonneau from the same company for a couple of years now and really like it. The only thing that bugged me was the rubber flange gasket over the tailgate. The adhesive let loose in a couple of places. Haven't found a good adhesive yet after a couple of tries. But the top is nice and solid. You would have to want to get into it to tear through the aluminum. If you have a locking tailgate it would be secure. When it is rolled up you still have great visibility out of the back window.

Thought you might like options.

Awesome truck!  Those ED's have been super popular around northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.  When they first came out they were back ordered for months.  Just recently I saw the first one actually sitting on a dealer lot for sale and took a closer look.  They really have come a long way.  Seemed just as quiet and refined as my suburban.  If only they made a suburban equivalent ram with the ecodiesel, I'd buy one.  But you can't put car seats under a topper :(

I just bought one of these myself a couple of months ago.  I really like this truck, actually LOVE it!  I was getting 25 mpg mixed driving and 27 on the hwy traveling back and forth to Midland Texas, but I just put on some 285 Toyo A/T II's last week and the bigger heavier tire dropped my mpgs by a couple of points.  Still very pleased with the mpgs, power and ride!

Here is a pic of it with the new tires and wheels.

Hindsight I wish I would have at least looked at the ram box, the 5'7" bed is not exactly real big on space.

You should love it Duane.  I have been running two of them in my fleet for about a year now.  Maybe a little under a year.  Both are averaging 23-25 mpg.  One supervisor even hauled a 11,000lb CAT skid steer with his...  :o    Something I never would have allowed if I had known ahead of time, but, it happened, and he had no problems, and even better....  He got 17 mpg while towing it   ;D

Like everyone else, I had to get the front end off the ground, so I had 4" lifts installed, with monotube shocks.  Go monotube shocks when/if you lift it.  Installed a set of 33" all terrains on them.  It was perfect.  Not too high, but just enough to clear speed bumps...

And yes, all those mileages I posted above, were while running the 4" lift and 33's.

Enjoy!!   8)

Thanks, everyone, I am liking the truck so far.  I took this pic before I stopped to fill the tank.  The truck AVERAGED 29.6 mpg over the last 406 miles.  About 50/50 highway driving and around town.  Can't beat that…

I just ordered a 2016 GMC Canyon with the 2.8L Duramax, it's supposed to be in the 30's for MPG's, but i'd be happy with the #'s you're getting.

4 cyl?

I think I read something about that engine. Should be a Tacoma killer when they come out...then Toy will bring out their diesel.

BTW, I drive a Toyota diesel when I was up in Kirkuk, was my personal vehicle. All up armored I was rolling heavy, but that little diesel could!

yes,from the GM website:

Other Duramax features and specs:
181 horsepower at 3400 rpm and 369 lb-ft of torque at 2000 rpm
Segment-first exhaust brake uses engine compression to slow the truck down, reducing the amount of conventional braking needed while driving downhill
Includes an integrated Trailer Brake Controller
B20 Biodiesel capable
Paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission

Would you mind talking about pricing?

This little truck will offer a great alternative to the Tacoma and be a more or less American vehicle, so I think it's important. The readership might like to know something about how much the truck and accessories cost

Based on the 3.0 diesels getting 29 in a 5K vehicle, a 4 cyl ought to get 35-38MPG

That sounds interesting. Let us know what you think about it when it gets in. My brother-in-law is a sales manager at a GM dealership. I might have to set up a weekend test drive for one of these things if they get one in.

Good idea...

It's long overdue they put a diesel in a smaller pickup. If the mileage is as good as anticipated, I bet they sell a lot of those.

Do you know, are they only offering the diesel in the higher trim packages? Or is it available in the work truck style trims too?

I believe it will only be an option on the higher trim pkgs. when the salesman added the diesel option, it automatically added forward collision alert & lane departure warning as well. those options are only available on the higher end models, so that would be my guess.

I might get interested in this truck as a possible build
