Since we let our hired had go we have an extra truck just sitting around.  So we decided to sell one and trade the other off. With the sale of one and the trade shouldn't  have to pay much at all. Both trucks do the job but not as well as I like. This is what I'm looking at.
2021 Kenworth  T880. Once we run the numbers I will ordering one similar to the picture.  500 + hp Cummins 7 speed Allison  transmission,  16,000 lb. Front end and a factory pusher axle.

Well i got everything that i will need my trailer for all moved over, and got that put away...(just in time for the ice/snow to hit for 3 days....

Now i just have to finish closing out the old place and then start organizing crap at the new place.....all while starting my new job tomorrow...

On the brightside, i can actually fit both vehicles in the garage at the same time!

we just picked up a similar truck (albeit not quite as stout as that one.) but it’s a clean 2016 579 mid roof sleeper with a short wheel base and ISX 15L cummins with a 10 speed eaton. former wal mart truck so very well kept and has an APU already installed.

We do a lot of off road. In and out of fields at a gross weight of 95,000 lbs. I have to have the ground clearance.  I'm selling my 379 Pete and trading a 2015 Kw t-800. Neither of them have very good clearance.  Especially the Pete. I'm always plowing the ground.

Jon. What is a pusher axle?

Is the front axle a powered drive axle?

If you look at the pic, the pusher axle/drop axle is the first set of tires right behind the cab.

Learned something new. Thought that was a tag axle.

Nate that new garage is nice. You could also leave the truck outside and park that new Shirley Fab smoker inside...

one side of the carrier bearing set slipped right off

ruh roah raggy. bearing journal is probably spun if that bearing "slipped right off" should be .002-.003 interference on the journal vs. the ID of the bearing race. I'd compare left to right on those journals. pretty common unfortunately in big diesel applications.

That clamshell bearing puller Tate sells is pretty handy. I have a case spreader but rarely need it. As long as you measured shims and locations it should get you close to start with. On used gears many times you need to move some of total shim pack from one side of carrier to other in order to bring tolerances (backlash) into spec again. I normally start there and keep pinion shim pack same unless pattern indicates an issue after moving carrier to tighten backlash. You want to be on the large end of tolerance specifications on used gears (Tate can give you the best recommendations there as what he normally advises me is wider than the manuals I have but must be acceptable otherwise he wouldn’t advise as such). When checking pattern on used gears go by coast side and you want to put about 50 ft #’s of resistance on pinion when checking pattern (may take two people) I do it but it’s a pia with larger diff’s. Edit: just realized you had stated new gear set.....

Just got me thinking...... maybe this is a sales tactic with Tate specifying larger tolerances on used gear sets?!?
[/quote]

used gears = already load hardened to the position they were originally set up with. use the coast side to evaluate pattern, and set the backlash on the wider side of the spectrum so you don't generate a bunch of heat with the albeit "slightly" new setup and prevent failure.

with Shawn specifically I try to talk him right to the edge so he thinks it's his fault and orders new parts when they fail

‘slipped off’ is probably an overstatement. i don’t mean like julia roberts neglige in pretty woman.. i still had to put a puller on it and hit it with a big wrench. but the other side however, i mangled the cage lol.

putting new exhaust on one of the trucks. The tips are rusted into the muffler. I already spent a whole bunch more money than I wanted to on this old thing. I don't want to cut the tips off and be too short so I figured out if I cut the top of the muffler out and made a slit in the ring then they came right apart.

Ran up to Douglas WY today on an axle / parts run. Stuff is cheap in WY all I have to say....

Made an offer early this morning on a 2010 srw extended cab long bed F350 4x4 with 6.4l has a slight knock, guy called back and we agreed upon a price. Pickup on Monday, will pull motor in a couple months once I get through some shop builds lined up. Gunna drop the big C in this beast. Have ats build the trans and buy some quality parts from them for the motor. Add 35” or 37” tires and small lift. May pull bed and toss on flat bed.

Astoria is quaint, though not really “the coast”.  Close enough, within 30 minutes or so.

You can drive down to Seaside and hit up the outlet shops, boardwalk/arcade, and of course get out on the beach. It’s majorly touristy though.

Astoria has lots of great breweries if you like beer ;)

Lots of security training today

The security ministry I run has doubled/tripled in size. And while getting to know one family, venezuelans, I found out the dad is a lawyer and the son is a neurosurgeon!

They have tried forever to get to the US, and now that they are here legally, they said they have no plans of ever leaving. We had a nice talk about how they felt. They could not understand how any American could want any measure of socialism. They watched it wreck their country. They want to be "Real" Americans, and I for one am happy to welcome them in as future countrymen.

They don't have any furniture in their apartment yet, but they are already serving at church!

well this is a couple days late, sorry.

the rent house is gone, in the past...like a bad dream!  I truly feel sorry for the good folks that actually own houses in that neighborhood and will have to deal with the future garbage that the slum lord rental company rents that house to!

oh and it has been a successful end to 2 weeks on the job.

Those desert washes were some of the funnest trail riding I have ever done. wide open throttle and you could lean over as far as you wanted and push the gas further and the soft sand was wet enough to hold the line!! Due for another one of those trips with the boys for sure

Naw. Not too many in that area.

You're right Dave. It's fun, as long as you aren't in a place where the laws are enforced. They don't want you running washes.

Really?  It’s Been years since I had been that way but we verified where we went with a local ATV shop for good places to go.  I’ll just assume they didn’t tell us wrong places to go lol
