Loading equipment

Reloading for me takes on 2 flavors, precision and volume.  For precision, I have a Forster Co-Ax with RCBS micrometer dies to get really accurate for my precision rifles.  I use a RCBS Chargemaster and weigh each charge and do not use a powder thrower

For the high volume work, like 5.56, I use a Dillon 650 with the case feeder and trimmer die.  I can load 900 rounds an hour when I get it set and rolling.

I am just getting started but jumped in all the way.

Got the Hornady progresive and die for 7mm, 300AAC, 556, 40sw, 308 and 45acp. Can't see reloading 9mm.

I need powder though and only want 8lb or better. Been trying to find some wc846 and get a whole case.

I like the RCBS green color on the bench. No I am not turning out 1,000 rounds a day but for what I need the Green stuff works very well. I do have the Lee case length gauge trimmer stuff, by far the easiest  way to keep the cases the proper length I have found. My automatic powder dispenser is a Hornady unit and works just fine. It would have been a green color too but I couldn't find the green one local.

RCBS is nearby but I liked what I saw with the Hornady progressive.

Got a few more dies to get but I just scored 32lbs of powder and a few K bullets.

I used to carry a few extra dollars around in case a good gun deal came along. Now that money is used when I come across a few pounds of powder I use or can be used instead of. Not saying I am hording but I did have to get another metal storage cabinet.

So I'm in need of a progressive press.
Single stage for bulk 5.56 and pistol sucks to say the least.

JR, how's the Hornady working?
I almost have my heart set on a Dillon, but dang, first born comes to mind to get set up well.

I'm looking to load bulk 5.56, 7.62, 9mm and .45.

Pounded out 300 9mm tonight, and it's just too slow for the sandbags I need to process.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

This is the 650 with the case feeder.

https://youtu.be/jURGY1OgfAM

I'm using the rt1200 trimmer here to size deprime and trim before running again to load. Worth every penny.

Everything tells me it's worth it, everything I see, everything I read.
And that didn't change my opinion at all.

So that is the deprime, trim and chamfer, all that fast? WOW!

Dillon 650 ftw! The powder drop(s) is/are pretty darn acurate as well.
Even a moke like myself does a good job with that machine.

Resurrecting this thread as I'm getting the seacan set up to resume loading.

So, the part I hate about reloading once fired military brass is the swaging.  For years I've sat and swaged with the little dillon super swage 600.  Its a time consuming process

https://www.dillonprecision.com/uimages/Super_Swage_600.jpg

Since then, Swageit has developed a cool part for the 650 press than allows one to swage on the press during the case prep cycle.

https://swageit.com/

Next week I will install it and report back.  I plan to process a few thousand 556 cases before I switch the set up over to process some 45acp.

having not reloaded 45 before it will be a new endeavor.  Probably load a few recipies on the coax and run them through the chronograph before doing some high volume processing

I have some titegroup powder and bought some HS-6 to try as well.  I have 1000 winchester 230 FMJ projectiles and I picked up 500 Hornady XTP JHP.

Also picked up a Berger reloading manual since I have some VLD hunting projectiles I want to load up for the 308.  If I can develop a 175grain round that is consistent and accurate with good dope I may replace the 155 Lapua Scenar recipie that I used in competition with my GAP 308.  The little scenar round comes out pretty hot and can make 1000yds pretty good out of a 19.5 inch barrel but I'd like to deliver a little more punch downrange.

So more to come.

OK last week I forgot the swager and went ahead and swapped tool heads over to 45 and loaded up some 45.

During the process of switching over my primer warning system, which had not been touched in nearly 5 years, had a corroded battery and the piezo buzzer was not working.  Instead of about $40 with shipping for a new one, I disassembled and found a new set of piezo buzzers on amazon for cheap.  Soldered it up and new battery after cleaning all the contacts and now I'm back in business

Anyone have a similar issue let me know.  Had to buy a 5 pack of the buzzers but they are an exact replacement for the dillon one.

Going out to the shed now to take the battery out of mine. Hopefully it's not too late.

Let me know.  I have 4 more sitting here and I'll mail you one if needed.

Got about 500 rounds knocked out after doing some glock mods as promised.  Will be writing those up here shortly,

Arrrrgggg. Ran out of. Large pistol primers. Apparently I only hoarded small rifle primers.

About to rectify that. Ordering 5000 rounds of brass and primers.

Tex, if you or anyone else has a need, I have a few 7RUM cases once fired or so to a good home. My son just had to have one but after I got a load worked up he went back to the 243.

Thanks Bob, that’s a great offer.  I don’t load or shoot 7RUM though

Aaaaamnnnd I have more work to do

One stuffed medium flat rate box and one stuffed large flat rate box. About 5000 empties

Now I have to sort the small primer cases from the large primer cases.

So far I’ve almost got the small box sorted. Looks like 70% large primer cases. I have both large and small primer systems for the Dillon so no problem

And the race evened up a bit in the big box.   Can’t believe I sorted 5000 cases in about 3 1/2 hours.  Now conveniently the small primers fit in the medium flat rate box and the large primers fit in the large flat rate box.  About 60/40 large primers.

So these came tumbled and I didn’t find any rejects, but I did find one .40cal and two 9mm cases :-0

Time to get loading this weekend!  I’m going to need more projectiles..... and some small primers
