130k on the odometer for a new to me vehicle, we have had it al little over two months to replace the previously wrecked 2011 traverse.
It’s been a really sound vehicle thus far
Took it in for an alignment and tire rotation before our Christmas trip to San Francisco area, new struts on the front and sent on our way.
Took my kids to daycare early and hear a rubbing/grinding sound from the rear of the vehicle as I slowed to exit the freeway. The back left wheel and rotor are very warm while the other three are cool to the touch.
Suggestions before I drop it at a mechanic again?

I had something like that on our suburban.
It was a sticking caliper.
New loaded brake caliper and rotor and we were GTG
Obviously when the caliper is removed, give the bearings a wiggle...
-
I guess if I jack the back half up and see if the tires roll, all wheel drive vehicle so I will need all four off the ground and in Neutral?
The growl gets worse as I apply brakes also

That same thing happened to my rust bucket red truck last year. New calipers and pads fixed it right up.

I guess I had better get it on jack stands.

Put it up on a jack stand, neutral and the rear wheel does have a dragging on the brake, I took it to the stealer anyway. It’s cold and the lights in the garage need replaced and I just don’t want to do something not correct and have it become a issue on our drive to California

Same thing happened on my 2500 express, both front and rear on the left side we’re siezed up. Had to replace the calipers on both, but doin it myself (calipers, bolts, pads and rotors) was less than the shop wanted to just change out the pads.

Dave do the full fluid flush while u are at it if you don’t know when it was last done

There is a traverse forum that I found very helpful with my 09. http://www.traverseforum.com/
Like when I couldn't find the fuse box or the non existent fuel filter.
-
I’ll give it a look see. Last time I was on a new forum I got stuck following a build of s truck that never got finished. Hurt my heart lol

Dave, we're going to have to start calling you "Willow" tree - you through a lot of shade, and leave junk all over people's yards! LOL! :beercheers:

Ouch man, talk about trimming the tree!

Can't argue with what they all said.
Well, if you get it figured out and come my way you better give a yell.

We are headed that way Jr on the 27th. It’s fixed with turned brake rotors and new pads for $175

The next page in this car is a transmission.
The wife calls and tells me that it’s shifting weird as she gets headed home
Rpm increase at 2200rpm speed decreasing at same time. 4200 rpm and speed resume and hard shift in every gear with out being full throttle.
So make some calls do some tec search. It needs a transmission. No point in tearing into it. Just replace as it’s known to be pure garbage
A few call get me a few prices. $3800 is my first, 2nd is $2800. For just the transmission
Labor carried from $800 to $1500 plus shop supplies n oil.
Called my buddy at ol John Watson GM and he got me handled in less than all. Trans out of Texas for $2700, labor $1100 and 100k mike warranty or five years on my transmission.
It should be finished tomorrow

Unexpected expenditures suckkkkkkkk

Tough luck, but a good warranty.
I lost my 700 in Eugene, just 2700 OTD. But not FWD.
-
Wow. That’s not cheap. Sorry Dave.

At this point in the traverses life. It’s still in really good condition inside and out, I figure this is a good deal for longevity of the vehicle I pair $10500 for it, 120k miles on the clock. It should be good for a bit more with a little TLC

Saturday after sitting out side in the cold.
Went to pull the traverse in after maybe 18 hours out of the garage.
It long long long crank and sputtered to a start. I pulled it in and didn’t think much of it.
Sunday Am off to Costco: long long long crank and No start. Popped hood and tossed a battery charger on it.
Monday take kids to school: long long long crank no start. Pulled battery and warranty replaced it. In with the new one. Long long long long crank and a foot full of fuel it sputtered to a start. Cloud of grey filled the garage.
Suggestions?
It currently is idling in the garage. No check engine light as of yet. Going to take it down the street to get the kids from school

Guess it cranks OK, just doesn't catch?
No oil pressure to sender telling it to pump fuel?
-
It cranks with a sputter
After taking the kids and coming back it starts as previously did
I’m gonna let it sit a few hours and see
Wondering about a crank position sensor,
Google says it has two fuel pumps one of them could be going,
Not sure if plugs and wires have ever been done on this

Sounds like not enough fuel, but that would give off a trouble light.
-
I thought the same. I thought for sure after I got the new battery and no issue I would get a Engine light

Not on a start up.
It could be either fuel pump. Need to have a gauge on the rear pump. If it's fine, then it takes a scanner to check everything else, including the high pressure pump.
-
Ken.
Why does this vehicle have two pumps?

Brilliance in gm engineering?

Direct injection....similar to a diesel. The tank pump is pretty standard, about 60 psi. It just feeds the mechanical pump that runs off the cam. Then it jacks the pressure up to 2000+psi .
-
My 09 would do that sometimes. I never figured it out. I tried to replace the fuel filter. But it dont have one.
-
It’s a gentle reminder it’s an older vehicle,
It still looks really nice, the inside seats and dash are all really nice, the only think of that doesn’t work correctly is the driver window controls don’t always control the back windows, the kids have to roll them up if I roll them down.
Otherwise very please to have this car for as long as we have

Update.
After getting kids from school I parked it for about 7 hours
When I went to start it I listened for the pump as Ken suggested. I could hear it for s brief moment then it would prime and shut down.
Car started fine multipolar times.
Ken on the phone said to keep watching and return with more info if it repeats
Today this am it drove and started just fine.

Welcome to my world. Happens almost every day on customer cars. Soon as they get to the shop, they fix themselves. I waste multiple hours trying to duplicate, don't make a penny, they take the car home and the issue reappears. Not only do I work for free, but it also makes them doubt my abilities. This week so far was a Subaru misfiring, F250 window inop, and Chevy dying on acceleration.
Subaru finally acted up on our 5th test drive.
-
It’s as classic as a peanut butter sandwich landing butter side down
Take the darn thing to a shop and they can’t find what your looking for
My favorite was a clunk in the rear drive system of my truck. I asked him to pull the diff and do a fluid check and look at the gears. He told me that he didn’t hear anything and to wait till it actually became a problem
Two months later I drove my truck out three stories underground in a parking garage, in 4x4 dragging the rear of my truck to the city street. The rear end exploded pulling out of a parking spot on a first date.
Loaded it into a snowmobile trailer and took it home

Dented to roof from improper strapping and a massive bump in the free way
The mechanic said sorry and billed me the full amount for the rebuild
Never got a second date

Why would you want to go out with the mechanic a second time?
Wife’s van is 16 years old and the Bus is 20. You get attached to them after a while like a badge of honor or bad luggage. Not sure which.

Typical guy named Dave. I give you an inside look at how difficult it can be to find an issue, usually at the cost of a mechanic's pocketbook, and you come back with a mechanics suck story.
-
I didn’t say you sucked I said That mechanic sucked. Carpenter auto. He was my bishop at my church good as ever on Sunday crook on Monday.
The difference being you put in the time to find an issue. And do your due diligence, he pushed me out the door even after I asked him to look willing to pay for the time
