Most RCS(Reaction Control Systems) thrusters are what is known as Biprop, a fuel and an oxidizer. Typically for Fuel Hydrzine, MMH, N2H4 and then NTO Nitrogen Tetroxide, N2O4 so the Hydrizine and NTO are hypergolic (burn when come in contact) so in VERY basic terms you spray the two at one another into a chamber that burning mixture goes out thru a orifice and you make thrust. The big brown cloud you see is the NTO, your life expectancy is pretty short after a couple breaths as the NTO breaks down to Nitric Acid in your lungs so you drown on your own fluids. The hydrazine attacks the central nervous system it wont kill you right away but your days a numbered as long term exposure is what dose you in. Your body cannot process the Hydzine so it just rides around in you system until it gives you cancer or some other problem. I hate to think how many years i have shaved off my life!!!!
Didn't the Nazi war machine have problems with hydrazine when fuelling the rockets they flew during WW2. I believe that fuel was hyopgolic as well. First used in the manned comet, then the V2 as well...Do I have that right?
more to come on this if anyone is interested
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb. I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.
So just witnessed the weirdest thing. I’m hopin Phil will confirm the launch of 60 new satellites. Was out dumping the ash pail and a satellite caugh my eye. Then another shortly behind. Then another, then like 20-30-40 more. Had time to get a look at a line of satellites all the way to the horizon, holler at mama to come out, and her to see as well. All in a row, neatly and evenly spaced, far as the eye could see, all on about he same trajectory.Got cold without a coat but t here was many of them. Danged if it wasn’t one of the coolest things I’ve seen in the sky.
