What are you building? / Garage Lofts
« on: October 23, 2015, 03:48:48 PM »
Ok, so down sizing has me running out of room real quick. I started by buying a couple of overhead ceiling mount racks from Lowe's. Which after I was done modifying them to fit cost me twice as much as initially budgeted. You see this is twice now that the black diamonds on a tape measure have bit me in the rear. Black diamonds you ask? Yeah take a standard tape measure and look at the 19.2" mark. There should be a small black diamond. These are known as metric marks or 5 equal spaces for every 8'. Yeah forget 16" on center or 24" on center some brilliant knucklehead came up with the diamond idea. My first run in with them was years ago building our first ranch home. We used engineered floor joists to span a 30' basement. Laid them out and nailed them at 24" center to end up with a couple extra and have to cut them loose and then read instructions telling us that it was that blasted diamond spacing.  >:(

So on to this weeks experience. Garage ceiling or floor joists of master bedroom are the black diamond spacing. Buy overhead garage kit from Lowe's. Sorry, not engineered for black diamond spacing....... So do I take them back for a refund? Nope that's too easy, I just go buy mo' parts and pieces.

Classifieds / Stak B-box 2 Speed Aluminum Transfer Case EB Early Bronco
« on: October 20, 2015, 11:54:24 AM »
SOLD

I ran this in my personal 1973 early bronco. This was mated to a C4 and has High Angle Driveline flanges front and rear. Also included is a custom laser cut & built skid / mount plate. My EB was a trailer queen and this case has no where near 500 miles on the unit. Low range is 4.13-1.00, the case has always functioned flawlessly. It is clean but a used unit and there will be a few minor scratches on the exterior of the case along with slight rusting on the drive flange etc. Has twin stick control for front digs etc. This is the b-box configuration which is meant to fit in between the narrow frame rails on an early bronco & will fit many other applications as well. If you are building or have capable off road EB and want the strongest aftermarket t-case ever produced for this model truck this is your chance to buy one of these rare units. Located 80516 can crate for a small fee & truck freight on your dime. Asking 2K obo

have this for sale locally as well

Intel / Cert Training

As some of you know I am new to my area as we just relocated from 18 hours away. The locals I know I can count on my one hand. So I happen to get notice of a local course called CERT. It is a program designed by FEMA and administered to locals for free by the police dept. Part of the gig is that they have us earn our CPR / AED certificate (good idea for everyone). Second is they utilize community volunteers in the case of a disaster and for other things like the local fireworks show helping guide knuckleheads to correctly park their cars etc. Anyhow I saw this as an opportunity to A) help and B) gain local knowledge at a faster pace than I would have otherwise. Just an idea that may fit for some of the other folks here on the board..........

OK, first I must apologize for the lack of participation on this board. Don will probably want to ban me a few times consecutively for my lack of DOTness aimed at him here lately. Anyhow I'll try to make this a short story and then get on to the build thread.

As most of you know I owned Great Lake Off Road which I sold in Jan. Then had a couple equipment auctions and finally sold my home / shop in Indiana as well. I resigned from my day job as GM for a large steel company after sixteen years and followed my wife along with our three girls to Colorado where she landed a job. First major move in our family ever, the wife and I needed a change of scenery. I wanted less to do and decided for a number of reasons early 2015 was as good a time as any to cash some chips in and try our luck somewhere else. There are times in life when a number of circumstances all converge that you need to step back take a deep breath and look at what is most important. In a nut shell this is what happened to us. I believe for whatever reason we were meant to be in Colorado, definitely not my first choice due to their communist gun laws but it seems to have played out well so far.

So on to the build thread, I will be building a 2015 Yamaha WR450F. For those of you not familiar the WR450F is basically a WR250 frame with a 450 motor sandwiched in to it. Its an agile trail riding machine that has the power and reliability to be very capable with a few tweaks here and there. As we speak it is being converted to DOT compliance making it road worthy. I am not doing it but letting professionals do this as it was part of the negotiation for purchase. Here in CO to be road worthy it needs a few things such as DOT approved tires, brake light, mirror and horn. Probably a couple things I left off but you get the idea.

If there is one big downside potential to this build it would be that it is fuel injected, great for the elevation changes here in CO but not so good against an EMP threat. My thought was if an EMP hits locally we have a lot of problems besides a bike that won't run & I still have my walking boots I guess.

Humor, Good Stuff, and Red Neck Practices! / Indian, Muslim & Cowboy
« on: March 07, 2015, 07:41:43 AM »
So the three are sitting at an airport waiting on a flight. Indian looks around & says "Once my people were many now they are few." So the Muslim ponders this for a bit & replies "Once my people were few & now they are many." Cowboy quietly sitting their looking around & states to the Muslim "I guess that's only because we have yet to play Cowboys & Muslims!"

& for all you PC complient folk I have Indian blood in my ancestory so I'm allowed to tell that joke
