Anyone have thoughts or experience with GM's connect and cruise create motor? I am think about buying one for my dad. He is restoring a '57 Chevy Truck. Right now he has a 327 in it. I recently came into some inheritance and im thinking about getting this for him since he would never do it himself.

Here's a pic of the truck. It has a corvette rear end and mustang IFS.

That’s a very thoughtful gift. Looks to be the right turn key set up

I remember looking at it once. Great all around engine trans package to update anything with four wheels and an engine bay...Maybe some things without all of that...???

I hear good things about them. In fact I think they are considered smog legal in Ca out of the box.
Would be an awesome gift, I like auto though.

Still debating between auto and manual. Why do you say auto?
-
Grew up with man, auto is quicker and easier.
-
If it's not going to be driven mostly for cruising and having fun, I'd go manual just for the fun of it.
-
If you/he is not racing it go manual just cause

I’m a huge fan of manuals in certain vehicles. However for that cruiser a nice built od auto would be the ticket imo. If you ever need to sell it then it’s more valuable too & easier to sell as wider customer base can drive it.
-
That is true but there are also lots of guys that only want manual
-
It wont ever be sold. my dad has been restoring it for 20 years now. and it has been his dream car. i vote for a manual because with 430hp, why not. However, my dads in his mid 60's so i dont know if he will want to drive stick as he gets older.

Back in my day, it seemed like a lot of guys were driving SS396 Chevelles and GTX's or road scrapers. Most had 4-speeds. Then one day a guy shows with a 70 SS with a 400 big block and an automatic. He nailed it and it went crazy, then upshifted all by itself...I liked that
Next guy shows up with a hemi orange cuda with a 440, six pack and an automatic. I got a 1/4 mile ride in that and again, just thought the auto was nice. But cruising on the friday night, me in my 4-speed Mustang GT-350 clone and other guys with the automatics. The non shifters were the most relaxing.

Got a ride in a 55 chevy with a 502 and an Art Carr auto. First car that actually scared me.
Being over 60 now (61 on the 30th) I still would go auto.

What ever happened with this project? Super cool truck. I'd love to see more of it.
For what it's worth we've done plenty with the connect and cruise package. They're pretty much plug and play powertrain options. Custom tuning to accomodate for intake and exhaust changes is pretty much the only thing they need.

I waited a little too long to decide on ordering or not. The price on Jegs jumped $6k for the manual and in the meantime my dad continues to build the truck. I was there last month and he almost has the current 327 running. So i think this purchase is on hold. I'll let him get the current truck running and continue to watch the prices on the connect and cruise.
Good to hear the feedback though.

Progress is still progress. Missing one deal usually leads to another path. It's hard to argue with a nicely packaged SBC. That 327 could be a perfect cruiser. Throw a nice EFI system on it and make it a perfectly driveable and reliable cruiser.
