Yukon HD Ball Joints
« on: March 14, 2022, 05:39:52 PM »
Wanted to give a shout out for Tate @ Randy’s Ring and Pinion. Yukon (Randy’s product line) just released an extensive line of heavy duty ball joints. I literally pressed my first set in about 15 minutes ago on an almost 50 year old set of gm hd flat top knuckles. So far I’m extremely impressed, these joints are super tight and the fit is above average. If they hold up long term to the hype then I think these will be a go to for some time to come. Forget Moog and TTX imo if Yukon makes a set for your application.

Website is unable to be updated at the moment, and to be honest, Shawn is one of the 1st to "test drive" these for me, but here's a parts note on these Canadian, (Thank you Sam) made-for-us bad boys:

THE SPECIAL SAUCE:
HOUSING
SAE 1045 Solid Steel Forged Housing: This is unequivocally the best carbon alloy steel for this application.
Knurled Housings: The preferred design for aftermarket installations.
CNC Machined Housing: Make our parts and bearings dimensionally perfect, eliminating any die wear issues.
BALL STUDS
SAE 4140 Hot Forged Chromoly Ball Studs: For the strongest possible metallurgy.
Induction Heat Treated Ball Studs: Provides a very precise heat treatment to the exact depth and location we want it.
Polished Ball Studs: Are built like an anti-friction bearing with extremely precise tolerances.
Rolled Threads: Are made by pressing the shape of the threads into the ball stud instead of cutting. This strengthens the threads instead of weakening them and allows for easy movement of hardware. This ain't no Ikea furniture!
Step Threads: Allows for very easy movement of hardware on install and superior holding when torqued (installer choice).
BEARING DESIGN
UPPER: Carbon Bearing Design: Used mainly in Jeep and Dodge upper ball joints is the solver of all things wobbly. Like all of our product
LOWER: Military Grade Acetal Bearing: The same bearing material spec'd by the US military for Hummer ball joints. This material is: dimensionally stable (doesn't expand or contract with hot or cold, water or oil absorption), it can be polished smooth as steel, is anti-friction, Doesn't wear itself out under load like metal on metal, and can take an absolute pounding.
BOOTS
CR Rubber Boots: The most durable material for undercar applications. Resistant to deterioration from road level ozone, oil/gas/engine fluids and extreme heat or cold.
Internal Seal Boot: The boot is coined onto the ball joint, for superior sealing against contaminants.
FINISH
UPPER: E-Coat Finish: Durable e-coat treatment.
LOWER: Phosphate Finish: Extremely durable. Double coated. Rugged look.
HARDWARE
Grade 8 - Class 10.9 Hardware: Superior tensile strength
Castle Nut: Industry standard where high

Definitely following.

I seem to kill MOOG's about every two or three years.
Part of it is me forgetting to grease them regularly, and part of it is they wear out.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

These are for a solid axle right, not our IFS dmaxs?

Correct, and unfortunately, with the high likelihood that the A arms are damaged with most Dmax applications, we do not yet carry them for the chebbies

There are a few HD ball joints for the IFS uppers as most I think go to an aftermarket arm anyway. I have the Kryptos for mine. In fact I ended up with an extra set.

Lowers would be the ticket as well as high travel CV axles.

Way, way too much negative camber

He needs an alignment

Think he'd notice something like that

It’s really all the rage these days with the younger generations, maybe I’ll do that to my camp trailer and start a new trend
