Thanks men.  I’m going to follow the advice of a friend of mine.  He carries $2000 in his wallet at all times and tells his teens if they get in a minor fender bender to not exchange information but to call him and he shows up on the scene and takes car of it in cash.  He’s done that twice already and with boys, I guess that strategy has paid for itsself in his insurance rates not gong up.

Of my three girls all have gotten in wrecks , only one bad enough insurance was involved. (I predicted this when she was 4 btw riding dirt bike w/ training wheels, seriously  ) Most wrecks luckily were not their fault. Dumbest one was when my “adult” teenager decided to back the Jku into middle daughters Mazda at the house. Same adult daughter has been in three wrecks one was her fault, one was not & the third Dad thinks the story is B.S. but I can’t prove it and was covered under uninsured motorist via a supposed “hit & run”

From the bottom of my heart Charles, good luck and I hope the road forward is smooth!

I’m sure she will do fine driving them country roads Charles!   The mini van will be A great learning lesson.

My only driver hasn’t had a wreck in five years and she is the most annoyingly cautious driver I have ever seen.  Makes me crazy as I’m am 100 the other direction lol

When my kids got there drivers license I got the an old square body chevy. They only accidents someone in a late 90 chevy car cut them off and stopped short. The 87 pickup came out with a bent bumper the car was towed. But becauae it was the girl insurance didn't go up. I'm sure the boy had some accidents but he didn't tell me about them. Charles good luck and here is to an accidents free young driver

Congrats, so far so good with my 18 year old. My rates are still jacked up from when that guy just stopped in front of me at a green light and got blamed.

All tore down.

I think I need bearings based on the splotches on the main. Looks like still see the grinder marks on the crank journals.
Cylinders look new just about.

Probably will. It’s going to a good shop and they are getting carte Blanche to do what it needs.

Are those black marks from the diesel spray or is it from the oil cooling the pistons?? Otherwise it looks good with XH to the top.

I see a HF pump there. Still deciding if I want to use a second pump for my setup from the head to the tank. Biggest thing where I am is using a stainless impeller.

Dave, how do water rights work there in Utah? Here in Colorado that’s illegal unless you hsve existing water rights on your property.

I plead the fifth, it’s also illegal to have a barrel under my rain gutter spout to catch water run off of my house for watering my garden.

Pardon the justification but…. The employer spends tens of thousands A year pumping out water out of our trenches for sewer pipe and the other underground infrastructure and the water simply is moved into another field and “lost” again.
The ditch they covered in my back yard to the “old farmer behind me” says it’s not used anymore and runs to the Farr end of town snd simply flows into nothing,   But he also has told me about seeing fish in it. So I’m going with ignorance here as the have told me they are turning off our water at the end of the month, meanwhile the man made lake next to us is full for boating use and stocked fishing….. short story
I plead the fifth

We can have rain barrels now. The whole premise of not having them was dumb. I understand “farmer implications” so think they need rules but at the same time need to be based in logic. I’m also tired of hearing how Cali doesn’t have enough water but over 50% of their annual water goes out to sea and they haven’t built a reservoir in over 20 years. The whole SW water plan is a joke w/ Ken’s state being the biggest offender of overuse the way I read it.

There is large portions of Utah water that gets sent to Arizona and Nevada which is frustrating, if we have another winter like last winter I’ll be giving up and ripping up the yard for Astro turf stuff and planting cacti for green stuff.

Been looking at turf already this year.

Dave, what do you mean by “they’ll be shutting off our water” - because of drought? Not because you didn’t pay your bill right? ;)

For real?
Last crank bearings I opened were spun at about 10k or more…
Made some pretty funky sounds.

I can’t believe how good it all looks for 300k on it.

Yeah been struggling to make that payment .   No jk. It’s from the drought, our main water source for my area is at 30% of capacity and we get our culinary and secondary water from it.

With all the housing growth, the added strain on the infrastructure is I think more then we have water for,   The population in ogden area has grown so much in the recent years then consider how old our plumbing systems are.  Don said it awhile ago. This are will eventually turn into desert no matter what we try to do

I want to say somewhere around 2011, there was a thread on D.F. about a guy who had an lbz that hit 1 million miles. Gm supposedly bought the truck back and ran a bunch of tests on it. Something like it made 10 hp less than when it was brand new, 12 ftlb less torque, broke the engine apart and every cilinder still had the factory marks in them.

I think the induction cylinder hardening and the crank nitriding has a lot to do with it. I don’t think reman will last as long. I’d mic the crank and run it as is if it’s in spec.

Edited for auto correct….

Charles, who is "mike"??

We can save rain water in NV for ag use only.

Where I live we have full water right to a resevior in Napa county (dam in my county) and we are fine for water for another couple years.

So I’m a warshin’ all me engine parts.
Started in the varsol tank(bout 5 hours). That sucked the next day.

Kinda went back and forth to the ultrasonic.

Then was varsol hung over Tuesday.
Today vacation has started.
And so I’m cleaning engine parts.

Mama didn’t bat an eye, only asked how I was making out.
I think I’ve got a redneck wife…well her hubby is for sure.
Cleaned parts drying in the entry way.

And I brought this home to help.
Slowly getting everything cleaned up.
House stinks of varsol and I’m already tired of the ultrasonic’s whine.

Some yep.
I was shocked how easy the varsol cleaned up the y bridge and Intake runners.
The silicone they sealed to the heads with. Well that’s another story.
Many more hours to go.
I suppose I’ll have to put it all together somewhere and make a thread when I’m done.

I have spent the last 4 days doing school work, picking 5 x 5gal buckets each day of tomatoes, running them thru the mill and getting ready for sauce making tomorrow......on top of my 1st term coming to an end with finals and having to do canned peeled tomatoes as well.

I might with some of them…

Valve covers and maybe upper oil pan come to mind…
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

Interesting mix!
(Get it? "Mix" as in mixing sauce ingredients vs the contrast between college study and old school canning...)

This is concerning on several levels

First, knowing my wife, having her come home to see engine parts in her "A-O", well she could become irrational
The result of which could be at a minimum, marital issues, and on a more serious note, possible personal injury.

Then it leads me to question your cognitive mindset. Washing engine parts in HER kitchen...gets back to my first point above^^^^^

Ultrasonic cleaner in your kitchen...hmmm. Now I never cleaned up moose meat, so I wouldn't know if it takes ultrasoncis to get all the icicles out of it, but that seems to me like the wrong place to place it

Can't fry shrimps in solvent, right? yea, so, again, just unsure of the (lack of) thinking goin' on here...

Another point, could any small engine component possibly end up in your cornbread? or could some jerky later be found to be cloggin' up your oil pump?

Engine building and biscuit makin'...in the same location...just not right.
