Title: Show off your Truck!!
Post by: Dawg25385 on March 09, 2015, 01:44:10 PM
Hey lets have some fun here... We all know about the build threads, and follow/update them religiously. What we also need here is a thread where we can show off our trucks even when we're not wrenching or modding.

Maybe you've just given her a bath and snapped a few photos, or got a new set of shoes... post pics!

Just crawled all over a Kia at the local mall, are frame deep in mud, or just hitched up the trailer and are heading out with your RV for vacation?? Yep you got it... pics!

Don't be shy... we all like trucks (among other things)... so let's see what you've got!

I'll start things off...

Just got my LBZ, and gave her a much needed bath after riding cross country on a gooseneck...

Man, that truck looks real good Kyle. You'll be happy with it.
Never thought to snap a pic of mine this weekend, it got it's annual bath...lol.
Not quite that bad, but it's sure showing its mileage on gravel compared to how yours looks.
I'll grab one tonight if I remember.

And welcome to RMTWS!

Thanks. Yours too. Really like the look of that LBZ. Nice and clean.

My dad had the LLY. Until someone last August decided they needed it worse than he did. Truck was a beast. Was what inspired me to buy my lml

Heck of a deal when you try and be a good citizen and perform your civic duty (jury) and your truck gets stolen while at the courthouse. (Downtown Houston) have yet to see it again.

Ok, I"ll bite.

2006 LBZ, 110k, leveled with 17 wheels, DSP5. Just got a 6 inch lift since it needs tires and maybe Ill put on the HD bumpers then too.

My flip and swap subs, both 91s. 1500 gets flipped, 2500 gets a 6BT and 0ne ton axles (all in hand)

1987 El Camino, 400k+ miles, just put in another 200r4 and have a complete 5.3 swap for it on the floor.

1986 Samurai, got a 1.6 tracker motor for it, 6;1 t case kit.

I had to do a double take on that Sammy. Other than the tires, it looks identical to the one I just sold....even missing the front bumper!

I looked for the stock wheels to keep it narrow, tires are a size up and new. Had to cut all the stock hangers off will build a nice bumper to mount a 4500# winch with synthetic line. When I got the tracker motor $500 (1.6 vs 1.3-bolt in with a simple plate) I got the seats too and sold the carcus for $400. It should be a nice hunting/fishing rig.

I see scouts all over here. There was a guy in Vallejo that had a whole bunch in a garage, mostly rust free too.

Soon to contribute: my wife went behind my back and traded in the 04 Yukon for an 03 LB7. should be arriving from OH this week. I'm pretty stoked to be getting back into a diesel. EGR and injectors have been done recently, anything else I should be looking for? I promise to post pics asap so I'm not JUST hijacking this thread.

Don't have my truck anymore. XJ still hasn't had her rust cut out and fixed, is still missing the front fender flares... She's just not camera ready. Although it has been high 50s this week so far and is supposedly going to continue on for awhile.

Ok I will play....

"Broom-Hilda" My daily driver/beater, 1992 CTD 5spd/rear Detroit, front Power Lock/on 38 Michelin XML's. It's ugly, slightly possessed, and abused daily. It also has a 2000lb Eagle lift on the rear, and a small hackberry tree growing on the dash.

This is "Patch" A 91.5 CTD Automatic truck. It's mostly stock with about 74K on it. We bought it out of a farmers field last fall, spent a few hours getting it running and fixing the brakes and have been driving it ever since. It also gets about daily driven and spends a lot of time with a trailer behind it of some sort.

This is my wife's Ramcharger, also a CTD Dana 60/14Bolt Detroit's, Alcan springs, assorted other goodies.

Two of the three We own...these two run and drive.

there are a few more but... well that's all the pictures I have handy.

Holy big tire there Batman...38"s on a 1st Gen

Love your collection, but Norm, gotta say, your wife's RC is my favorite.

And she built it, right?
Title: Re: Show off your Truck!!
Post by: OldKooT on March 11, 2015, 09:24:04 AM
Those 38's are with no lift whatsoever.

Yes my wife built most of that truck herself. She started with a 40k mile one owner Ramcharger. She then bought a 1992 CTD W250 for parts. Between her and a few of the kids she had that W250 stripped down to a bare frame in 6 hours.

She then spent that winter rebuilding the Cummins, the Nv4500 she bought new someplace. She redid the Axles and transfer-case as well. She built the entire underhood wiring harness from scratch and made all her own intercooler tubes.

Now that she has it done and has drove it a while she has a new plan. We will be borrowing the engine at the very least for the Crew Cab project and when that's finished she intendeds to spend next winter turning the Ramcharger into a lowered corner carving street toy...*eyeroll

Kind of late to the party but been running. Haven't even washed the rigs in a long time. 1969 ElCamino that is fun to drive but won't tow much. Numbers matching 350/350.
2011 2500 HD short bed GMC, stock with a cap and bed rug in the back. Nice to sleep in while hunting or fishing. I don't haul stuff, I tow stuff. Two boats, a 14,000 lb dump trailer, 12,000 lb flat bed trailer, and a 34 ft 11,500 lb travel trailer. Also my daily driver

Don, If I have my way it will get a P pump 12valve when this V10 goes out.  I only gave 2000.00 for this truck so I got a heck of a deal.  I have a miss I cant figure out with this V10.  Plus everything and I mean everything is run by a computer on this thing.  Cant even adjust the timing.  When It finally dies I will do everything I can to do away with as much of the computer stuff as possible.  I get 8 miles per gallon.  It doesnt matter if its in town driving, highway driving, pulling a trailer, not pulling a trailer. LOL

You going to take the bed off? I've got a similar issue... not horrible, but want to treat it all. Going to take the bed off and grind/treat/paint.

Well going to a 12 valve will more than double your mileage. Come to think of it, it will double your torque as well!

I'm not sure yet if I will take the bed off. I probably should. I have a small Kubota tractor so I might be able to lift it. I will give it a more thorough inspection and see how wide spread it is but I assume it will all be covered. The odd thing is the front half or engine bay area is fine.

We love it... Already dreaming of a 5ver though. We bought this 2 days after we got married. Use it a ton, but stayed "small" because I had a half ton at the time. At 6500 lbs going over the cascades all the time, the 5.3l no likey. Hence, diesel now. Everything's "half ton towable, easy!" to an RV salesman.

Put the truck to work these past weeks hauling the tractors to and from the hay fields.

The small tractor started having problems so we had to resort to our big one to finish. Total weight is somewhere between 13k-14k. For a gasser I thought it handled it well enough.

An offering of advice.  Your truck will pull heavy loads better if you have a majority of the weight over the trailer axle.

The small one isn't very heavy but we didn't have anything but a short chain at the time so we had to pull it to the front but the big one was parked over the axles.

6.0 I had the axles regeared to 4.56 to make up for the 285's. IIRC its geared 3% steeper than stock now.

Few years back I put in a 60 gallon fuel tank with in cab switch.

Thanks! Yes, I like to be sure it's setup correctly, but as you've mentioned it's not uncommon to see people driving around with the hitch too low or too high, or not using WD hitch when needed etc. No need to tempt fate!

I would eventually like to upgrade suspension, re-gear, and put in some lockers etc, but it's still awesome as-is, actually the truck does surprisingly well offroad in stock form (minus the TT of course :) )

And some of the best camping spots are not accessible to guys pulling big 5ers. I'd love to downsize when the kids go off so I can see the country without having to worry if I have enough clearance.

Yes that extra clearance is certainly a plus. When I go camping I like it to be more private, in a wooded area. I don't care for the style of camping where you park your 5th wheel in, what is basically, a big open field. I would really like to do more overland, expedition type camping, but I have a little girl who is about to turn 1, so with her, the camper is the best of both worlds.

How was the smoke over there Kyle? Last time I was camping at Chelan was 2003 when they had that huge fire come down through Stehekin. It made the sun blood red and rained down snowy ash everywhere in the city park campground.

It was really bad when we first got there. Couldn't even see across the lake it was so smokey. Ash falling from the sky, the whole 9. But it got progressively better and within a couple days we were enjoying the sun and water without too much smoke.

too bad the smoke interrupted what was a very beautiful weekend. The family and I floated down the Wenatchee on innertubes for about 5 hrs that Friday, even the dog got a tube. Great adventure, and the first tow after the stack cleaning. Everything was great out in Leavenworth minus the back pain from lifting a panicky 90lb black lab onto his tube from the shore. He eventually got the hang of it and was chasing trout and carp the whole time.

That sounds awesome... glad you had a great time!

I need to do a good stack cleaning also... but i kind of want to do the belt, idler pulleys, and tensioner at the same time since they're a pain with the fan shroud in the way... waiting on funds and time! Luckily no more eastside trips for us this year, so it can probably wait until next spring in truth.

Drove out to Bend, Oregon last Wednesday afternoon to courier some parts to my father-in-law who had to work all last week. The overnight shipment via UPS never made it, so I picked up a duplicate order and drove it out personally. Gotta say... LOVE the tires on this truck. Cooper Discover AT3. Roads were pretty snowy/icy and never did I feel like I was going to lose control.

Found a parking lot on the way out of town and had took some obligatory snow pictures :)

The CTS2 was just a little off on the MPG on the way home... (actual was 18.6MPG for the tank - hand calculated via Fuelly app)

Got home just in time on Thursday to shower and hop back in the truck to drive another hour to my parents for dinner.

Took it down to the self-serve carwash on Friday to hit the fenders with the power sprayer and then ran it through the actual carwash. It needed it. BAD.  I need to get some mudflaps... Santa?? I've been a good boy ;)

Nice truck! And jealous of the CTS2  :'(

Thank ya much! Looks a lot better when its clean, though! :)

CTS2 was my splurge for the year. Bought it when they first came out and was able to sell my old CTS to offset the cost. Only cost me $100 to upgrade that way.

Talked myself out of new rims/tires today. The finish on the rims is peeling pretty bad, and one has a pinhole leak (i believe) at the bead -- Discount has already re-seat the tire once. Plus, the 16" rim just looks small so I want to go up to an 18". Good deals for Cyber Monday, but $1400 for tires and wheels when the current tires still have 13/32's left is a hard one to swallow. Even if I could sell these for $400-500, plus the $300 in rebates we'd still be talking $600-700. Decided its best to just wait and maybe do it next year.

I thought about doing the same to upgrade to the CTS2... But with the house and all, the truck is second fiddle in the money spent dept

I'll play (http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/12/04/01353fd9d859c04fa6b7fb70aefc8ccb.jpg)

My old bosses power choke died and he called me to pull his monster boat to the lake.  28.9 feet largest boat on the road with out having to pull into weigh stations.   My truck barely made it out of the boat ramp with it.  Inched her out and let the water drain.
2003 LT 6.0 motor.  Avg mpg was 12 no matter what I was pulling or cruising

This is the first day I owned my truck.  My brother in law said the road we were on was a "road" it turned out to be a slick rock trail so narrow I couldn't turn around on.  I ended up scaling a rock ledge 3 feet tall.  Truck survived.  I sold the 20's and  now she has a grandpa package that I love

I am not positive of the weight but I didn't like it at all.   I only had a short pull from the boat shed to the boat ramp.    He wanted me to pull it home from flaming George to Ogden.   Evanston Wyoming has what we call the three sisters on I-80 and they are some pretty awesome climbs and descents.    Semi trucks crawl up these long pulls. Loaded trucks maybe fifty with a good run.  Empty civic your down shifting into third gear.

I didn't tow much with the red Chevy so I didn't have a trailer brake.  I drew the line and said no thanks wait thill your junk ford is fixed.

I'm callin' him out!
First pic is photo shopped
It's obvious
The man lives no closer than 1500 miles from water
He has two baby boys which take 26 hours a day care and feeding
So he would have no boat time
Ever
It's faked!

And don't be sayin' that pond there is deep enough for anything other than a canoe either!
Years ago we crashed a Blackhawk out in that lake somewhere
and know what?
Half of it was stickin' up out of the salty brine!
Stayed there for awhile
Before the lake dissolved it, EEKS!

You know I did the Alligator lines and not real happy about them.

Oh they fit just fine and are 1/2 inch hose. But the fittings are only 3/8s, hense the lines are still 3/8s, but they don't leak.

I thought the same, either way my intention was to stop the seep that GM has acknowledged as a problem but will have no part in making right.... And it's even more strange "working" for them and listening to all the jibber jabber about safety being #1 but once you're out of the new car warranty it's like pulling teeth to get goodwill from them.. Anyways I'm happy because I won't have a small pink puddle in my driveway every other week and all over the suspension

Naturally we had planned a road trip next week and we won't have her new truck for it. I might have to clean the tree's growing on the dash of my 91.5 out and take that.

Everything else we own I refuse to drive in the salt we will encounter if we go to Wisconsin.

No snow up here, so no salt. It was 54 yesterday, supposed to be around 57 on Sunday, according to the local weather guesser.

Out here in Knee-Braska its been in the upper 50's as well. But this weekend starting latter today (Sat) rain turning to ice turning to snow by sun/mon. My guess by Wed/Thursday if we head to Wisconsin we will drive in snow the entire way....because that's how our luck rolls. Our weather usually hits Wis about three days after here it seems LoL

What ever they call it we need rain. Al they do is rely on snow pack and the state has twice the people it was designed for.

Been 60 here the last few days, hopefully rain tomorrow!!

If and when the hubs on the CJ kick the bucket, I'll be upgrading. The truck will get lock-outs before the Jeep needs new ones, but that'll have to wait a bit. I just had to replace the clutch/flywheel in the truck, so I'm going to have to wait a bit on that project.  ;)

Fords are OK, although I am wondering about this twin turbo thing they have now.

Story here...

I am on the local fire department board, a voting member.

We own one of the new F450 ambulances with that 6.7. Just since November...and I challenge anyone to believe this, but it's all true.

Sometime around Thanksgiving the turbos failed. So we took it in and they bolted on a new set. The next board meeting, would have been in Jan, the chief is embarrassed to report that they repaired the turbos. The chief took it on a shakedown run and the turbos...both of them grenaded...again!

Unbelievable!

The mechanic, and for now on I am speaking in theoretical terms, as in if this actually happened, it would make a great story.

The mechanic said it is the pollution control stuff causing the turbos to run super hot and to fail so quickly. For a certain dollar amount, which board members need to authorize, that junk can be made to fall off, completely.
So that happens, and along comes the Feb board meeting.

The chief reports that the ambulance ran like a scalded dog, had never been stronger! So strong in fact that it shoved a connecting rod right out the side of the block...during a run...blowing oil all over the rear tires...which failed to maintain traction, being all covered in oil and antifreeze and all. All this on the interstate with a patient on board. In retrospect I sort of wish the thing would have exploded. The patient was a heroin overdose...I mean, why waste the money trying to save Bernie Sanders voters?

The chief asks us what to do? The quote for a new engine is 17K. We need the ambulance, since heroin od's are becoming more and more common, and I still want service for the occasional heart attack.

You're really not going to believe this, but there's more

17K and more time later, and we have a new Jasper engine installed. The guys go and get the cursed thing and while driving it back to the station...The engine blew up...again! Sent another rod through the block, and this time it also screwed up the transmission somehow.

I found this out that at the March board meeting. Jasper is covering part of it, and our insurance is covering the balance, but the bill this time is nearly 25K! Oh yea, those Heroin overdose runs? Ya, we usually don't get reimbursed anything for the effort.

Side note here. We respond to a call last summer. H-overdose. THe guy dies, but our boys revive him and get him to the hospital. They release him in the afternoon. That night, the same bonehead OD's a second time, this time with his wife. He dies again. Our boys revive him...second time THAT DAY. and get him to the hospital! Yea, we didn't get paid for that. Not even a hearty handshake or a toothy smile!

We are thinking of just getting the ambulance running and try to sell it. I suggested we pull the box off and stick it on a Dodge dually. Anything to get away from a Ford!

During all this the chief needed an new command vehicle. We absolutely forbid another Ford. We ordered a Tahoe with some police package. It will be here in May...

hard to believe. and sad to hear.

we have 2 at the shop, one an FX4 and the other a 4x4. both long box crew cabs loaded to the gills. one a '12 and one '14. both have been used to haul anything from 25 ton AC units to 200kW generators with 2 bins of #2 banded and 4/0. never had a problem with either. and they ride great for 7k+ lbs trucks. it's the closest thing from ford that ive driven that pulls as hard as the dodge 6.7s we have. the 07 3500 is on its last leg, but it's been ridden hard and put up wet. a lot. the other 5500s have had their issues, but none engine related. and none that weren't covered under warranty

I have wondered since the second set of turbos if the mechanics ever cleaned out the oil lines or system, or just let all those metal filings do their destructive work...??

no telling. but id start there. probably too late to do oil analysis also..

we run amsoil full synthetic in everything. and change it 8-10k miles on trucks. 500 hrs on filters and 1000 hrs on oil for generators. which translates to roughly 25k miles and 50k miles.. and haven't had one go bad yet. good thought about the old turbo grenade haunting the oiling system. especially with THAT quick of a failure(s)

Wow, I just read the story about the ambulance... Sounds like you just got a lemon on that deal.

Never, not ever, have I had a catastrophic failure of any kind on any Ford I've ever owned, and that includes 10 different F-series medium duty trucks including F-550, F-650 and F-750 (Cat C7 motors in those).  Not to mention my E-350 (5.4L V-8) and my F-250 (7.3L Powerstroke), and the 2000 Grand Marquis (4.6L V-8).

Sure, you have your chinese water pumps and other various accessories that wear out... but rods shooting through the block?  Turbo failures at low miles?  Unheard of in my world.  Sorry about your luck.

All my trucks are high mileage, the van currently has well over 300k on the clock...

Like a F-86 as well
The F-4 Phantom is hard to beat and the F-15 has never been defeated in aerial combat

My favorite of all WW2 aircraft is the P-61D Black widow. Faster than a Mustang, has a quad .50 top turret, 4 dorsal mounted 20mm cannon (these with the .50s be slaved forward equaling enough firepower in a quick burst to down anything), and the first U.S. nightfighter designed for that role from the ground up. The Mustang is gorgeous, though, as is the Sabre. I like the Tomcat over the Eagle, though (AIM-54, 'nuff said).  ;)

Ah, reminds me of a funny story

I am a young Warrant Officer flying the worthless Jet Rangers out of Kizengen, Germany back in the 80's

The bank manager there is an old German gentleman

We chat from time to time, and one day he says he found something in the hills walking the past weekend. Germans walk all the time... Well I investigate and it turns out to be a WW2 P-51 drop tank!

He thought it was a bomb and he knew I was a pilot (Flight suit...every third word I said at the time pointed back to my being a pilot...) (Apologies to the world, for the don that was...)

That breaks the ice and he tells me he was an officer in the Wehmacht in the big one! He went to school at the little US Army post opposite side of the town up on the hill...The place back then we stored things made of Uranium...Ya know, glow in the dark wrist watch repair parts.

He tells me back in the day it was the German Army's ADA (Air Defense Artillery) School. As in the guys with the 88mm cannons shooting at our 8th Army Air Force Guys.

After a long moment, I pull a photo of my dad out of my wallet. I tell him, my father flew B-17G's and bombed Germany in 44-45. I told of him of a few places he bombed and approximate dates. He smiles, and said, well, I guess I didn't accomplish my mission that day or I wouldn't be talking to you today.

This man actually commanded the battalion of 88mm anti-aircraft guns tasked with protecting Kitzengen and north toward Schweinfurt, both places Dad dropped bombs on late in the war.

He says he didn't mind the B-17, although it was crushing his country, but he had a real personal problem with the P-61!

He told me this story that was mixed with some smiles and some pretty serious stares. He was in Northern Italy, I think he said as a Captain. His people were billeted in a single building, which included his room as well. His guys liked to smoke. Lighting of cigarettes would make a momentary flash. Well one night when he was on duty one of his men, well, he estimates several of them were smoking and joking when a P61 orbiting above in the night sky set up on them and lays in some .50 fire and a single bomb. The bomb hit perfectly. He said he lost most of his men who weren't out manning the guns and his boots. He had a custom pair hand made in Italy for him by a local craftsman. He wore his worn out set on duty, but kept the nice ones for special occasions.

THose boots were demolished along with his clothes, pics of his family, and about everything else he owned along with a good percentage of his men. He said from that night on, the Americans never stopped attacking and he ran all the way back to Germany with his rag tag unit, in worn out boots. He still had those crappy boots on when he shot at my dad!

What a story...What a small world. Oddly, but I felt a strong kinship for that old man. And when I told dad, he told me to shake his hand for him...And to say they were just two guys doing their jobs. Dad said that he was glad he missed as well, and wished the gentleman a long healthy life.

Soldiers...

The Thunderbolt II, aka Warthog, is the ground pounder's savior! The only USAF aircraft I want on call in a bind, especially against an armored foe. Of course, the USAF never really wanting to perform CAS and really hating how well the A-10 performs in that role, hates it! They have been trying to get rid of it since the late '80s (just before DS/DS they were actually going to give it to the Army). The Spectre is awesome for dealing with our less technological enemies.

Back on the truck topic...

I watched this one get restored/converted from the frame up... 1965 International Scout.  Originally had the 160ci 4 cylinder with a single barrel carb.  Ended up with a crate 350, turbo 400 trans, Currie-built Dana 60 axles, full interior cage, aluminum dash with liquid filled gauges, and he even kept the original vacuum powered windshield wipers.  Sitting on 36 inch BFG Mud Terrains, this picture is before he flipped the axles below the leaf springs, effectively raising it up a few more inches.  This truck is a daily driver now in Durango, Colorado.  She makes about 400 horsepower.

It had two lateral members added to the frame during it's reconstruction.  In it's original form, when you would flex the chassis, the doors would fly open!

When I retired there was this row of garages next to the courthouse. One day they opened them and there were about 8 scouts in there. Found out it was some entrepreneur from Europe who bought up stuff and sent over there.

Except for no center console, looks good for a 30 years old!

center console is in the works. just wanted to/had to get it back in running order before then. it'll have a deep box/arm rest area, a middle section for 2 cups/cans/beverage of choice and a lower that runs from the front of the seat to under the dash about 9" wide.. careful to avoid the tcase shifter

at idle, with the mat and carpet/seats, it dropped my dB from 45 (bare metal cab) to high 20s with no AC on. around 33/34 with AC (I'm guessing bc the meter is reading C weighted which picks up lies and highs) and cruising down the road at 55/60 it's at 45 dB.. it made a huge difference as far as I'm
concerned.

small, non visual update:

got the power for the seats hooked up. need to get a console built so I can house the switches for heated seats. they're either going in that contraption somewhere, or possible the door panels close to the manual window handles. don't really want to run the cables from there, or cut up a perfectly good door panel. most likely will end up in the console

from left to right:

original 1980 scout II. 45k miles. 345 CI TF727 and Dana 300. Dana 44s front and rear. replacement springs and bushings. that's it.

middle: 1971 scout II. first scout II to be delivered to NC. rebuilt 345, 727 and 300. frame off in '02 and '05 (funny story actually.. hahah) original color and engine/tcase to the truck. auto tranny was added later.

right: 1978 scout II. complete frame off. LS 5.3 vortec with 4L60e trans mated to a D300 tcase. leather heated recaro seats. blue tooth radio. dyna mat everything. fuel rims and toyo open country ATs. custom front winch bumper and rear spare tire carrier/swing. it's as nice as any new truck you can go to the dealer lot and buy..

and in front of it (out of the pic) is another scout II with the exact same setup that's getting ready to go into paint next week. (same driveline, interior, rim style, tires etc)

What is going on with the Scout on the jack?

thought it had a bad caliper bc it was pulling left. got it apart and saw the rotor was warped. they were turned before it went on, but evidently something was wrong. taking it in total to see about turning it again, or putting a new one on.

unpictured is a 72 diesel 4speed  travelall.. hopefully that goes under the knife soon-ish. 4x4 conversion, 6.0 LS, 4L60E auto and Dana 300.

put the ol girl to work today. made a trip maybe an hr down the road to pick up 2 Lincoln 50 gun safes, a ruger AR and a Daniels defense AR. (they're light, and in the truck). dodge did great. pulled hard even with the sail on the bed. only issue is, under higher boost and over fueling, it's pushing fuel out of a leaking exhaust manifold gasket. (been leaking awhile, but just noticed it did it when in WOT) I've been wanting to get it fixed since the day I got the truck, but didn't see that it was causing anything major so I didn't do it. now, I can see that it's leaking fuel (99% certain).

can anyone confirm what my leak suspicions are..? I cleaned it all down after dropping the safes and drove back home gingerly and it didn't seem to leak a drop from the same exhaust port that seemed to be soaked earlier. fingers are pointing towards that being the culprit. I sure hope so, would be an easy fix

Well, I traded in the Tacoma for a little more towing capacity, and a little more back seat room. With my little girl in her car seat, and at least one adult in the back seat on long trips, it sure is a better size!

2016 Sierra SLE w/Kodiak pkg and a few extra options on top of that :) And the crazy part is, gas mileage isn't much different than the Tacoma, especially when towing!

I like that!

It's white which is a good serviceable color, I had a white truck once...

It looks sophisicated

It has a pretty decent new LS motor

The interior is very "Percise" looking, almost German

It should serve you well.

So Request: Do a write up from time to time and report on how it's doing, what if any damage the Hyundy's cause when you shove them out of your way, or when a Prius battery explodes nearby sending fragmentation your way...You know, Important stuff like that

The thing that gets me about the Toyota size truck vs the full size 1500 is the price difference.  You gain about double the capacity in every way yet the cost difference of the two trucks is only a small amount.   They are really proud of the little toy pickups

Tex, I don't need those pesky extra tires. The heaviest thing put into the bed once I get the new cap on will be an ice chest or maybe a deer or even an elk someday. I tow pull trailers not 5th wheels and have a dump trailer for hauling stuff.

I understand man, it isn't the tires as much as the fiberglass fender flares that would get me in trouble.
I did notice GM went back to round pipe type hitches again. Granted they are much larger than the ones that had so many problems but have to wonder why they did that. My trailer is darn close to the 1,500 max tongue weight at times depending how I load it. The dump trailer, well it has never been across the scales. The 2011 had the square tube hitch and I never had a problem. The truck before that had the round tube hitch and it was replaced under warranty once and then I bought a good Reese hitch to take care of the problem. I just hope this new truck does as good as the 2011 which other than a couple glitches with the DIF fluid was a darn good rig.
Title: Re: Show off your Truck!!
Post by: stlaser on September 09, 2016, 08:10:40 PM
For the record, I've broken sq tube Reese hitches. Granted it was on a ford (not that that matters) & well we always overloaded those steel trailers. Back before DOT came down on us all the time. The hitches usually outlasted the trailers as I always had to reinforce where the a-frame came out from under the front deck of the trailer. They always tended to bend and tear at this point. With all that said the constant pounding of heavy trailers bouncing is what breaks stuff on bumper style hitches.

Post by: Bob Smith on September 09, 2016, 08:19:41 PM
That is all true Shawn, but I do know a guy that can build me one if it comes to that. I just think the square style is stronger than round but school is out on that right now. I am close to manufactures weight requirements, but my wife doesn't know all that stuff and she packs for whatever it is and I am not going there right now.

Hey Don, I did trade in the 11, they gave me 32,000 for it. This truck has a few more creature comfort items too if that matters, and no I won't be taking a bunch of stuff off of it to void the warranty.

Kyle, I looked at the Curt class 5 today, and darn it they are using a round tube also. It almost looks like GM is using Curt to build their hitches. Maybe I will be ok. Funny, buy a one ton truck just to be on the safe weight side and have to worry about a hitch bending or tearing away.
