Title: Look at what I just found!
Post by: Flyin6 on November 04, 2015, 05:38:26 PM
Yesterday when I was driving over to vote for our now tea party Governor Elect, I went right past this old Jeep grand wagoner

Talk about old school!

THis thing was a Kentucky parks and recreation truck that lived it's life inside a garage. Basic as basic can be...only options were door handles, windows and air conditioning!

It only has 66,000 original miles, is a 1987, has a 360 V8 with a rotted out single exhaust, 4 WD with a Dana 44 front and rear. The interior looks really good, a few tears here and there, but almost completely there. Sort of a tan color with the ugly autumn harvest tan seats. Two benches without headrests. Might as well be two park benches. Undercarriage is greasy but intact.

The plastic is applied over a dent. The truck is completely rust free, as in none!

He is asking $2850

It starts and is drivable

Thoughts??

The first owner purchased it from the park service in 2012

He sold it to the current owner who installed a round headlight front end and grill from a 1963 I think...that's why it looks different.

I think that would be a great project for somebody.

If that's 66k miles, I'm as handsome as George Straight. (I'm NOT)

In those years, I believe the odometer just starts over every 100k.

Just needs the fluid changed....

It's really 66K
Was a park service vehicle, seldom used
Mileage records confirm a few thousand more miles on it since the gov't turned it over to sell

So now XJ is going to have to compete with that as super jeep build of the site?

Looks like a 1/2 ton (6 lug)

I would default to an XJ for the boys and do a fluid change,,,,,,,,,,,

This is one of the times I would look over to my wife and say "Good thing we are broke cause that would be coming home with me" Then she does that thing where she rolls her eyes, shakes her head and sais I love you.

Unexpected reaction from you folks

Thought everyone would really like the thing

Guess not

So worth a second look @ say $2500 or pass it by?

And, anyone else interested?

Well, not looking for another project at the moment

But if I had it then

I'd flip the axles for a lift, mount up some 35" tires add a locker or two, paint it OD green and black, clean/dye/replace interior parts, warm over the engine, clean the snot out of the undercarriage and reseal, replacing the rubber parts which are probably dead, and call it a day

So, just another fluid change  ;D

I like it and sounds like you do too and it would fill a nitch to haul people around vs SD as that is limited on seats.

If that has 44s front and back it is not going to like 35s, so you might need a rear 60 at least.

Not new, just flip them
Those ancient jeeps mounted the axles on top of the springs. I would mount the axles under the spring which would lift it a few inches just doing the flip.

I guess I missed the part about YOU considering buying it. I really like those things, but honestely looked kinda rough in the underneath photo.

not sarge support vehicle, it would be farm support vehicle......so SSV is out and FSV is the new term.  besides, those 2 pre-rangers need something that has farm plates on to learn how to drive with.......

Mine started out looking like that, but much worse interior wise. If I had the money and it were closer it wouldn't be a question.

Very limited build, (thinking paint, fluid change & set of tires) use as farm truck. I think if you could keep it under 5k total don't see how you could be hurt on it in long run. With that said I know who I'm talking to & realize you keeping a build under 5k is like Obama repealing the 1934 NFA......

Edit: Sweet ride Tate!

Too bad, I was highly interested.  My wife loves those Jeeps and wants to own one.

Thanks. '72 and that was before the 37's. it looked better with the 33's i think. no other pics anymore i had to sell her back in '06. Diamond plate alum panels replaced all the interior door and rear bed panels and i had a 30 gal foam fuel cell, went everywhere! Don is incapable of "just building to run" but it would be nostalgic to see a wagoneer built up cool.

Happy wife happy life. Better go find one right? fyi, dimpled SB chev 350 headers work great on these. just need to modify the flange a little. See, cheap parts are available, perfect excuse to go get one and start building!
