Made a somewhat flat spot today, ahead of schedule. Was supposed to be raining but didn't.
Had to dig out a stump almost as big as the excavator.

We're getting an intermittent 4g at camp. Uploading pics is interesting. Have a high dollar booster still in the box, but will install if we get rained out stuck in the trailer.

That is one big stump. You may check around or if you have room drag the stump back home. I know some guys around here that make tables and stuff out of those and would pay some for a good looking piece. Or the birn well when dried out

You can burn that even if its wet
Pine stumps: Rich in turpentine.
Ken, to make sure saw into the stump/root area and smell the saw yield. If there's a turpentine smell, then pile stuff around in and lite it off.
We had a pile of stumps from cedars from clearing around the road to the farm. Those smoldered for days, and that which remains is good for pushing into washouts to prevent erosion.

Found evidence of early model maglev(magnetic levitation) bearings on my tractor PTO. No balls at all in those bearings, had to have been designed that way, right?   Unfortunately the maglev bearings are in short supply, so I will have to replace with standard sealed ball bearings for the near term fix.

Moose are scary as ever.  I have ran into the on single track on my bike.  No good response for what to do but I am tell you I don’t coast down trails anymore and they run well over thirty miles a hour.   We chased one to springs ago down a trail.  He got scared and ran   I chose to keep him running and not give him time to see how much larger then me he was....

Shot my first 2 day national level match over the weekend.  Different terrain and wind conditions then I am used to for sure, and a bit different match style then what I typically shoot.  Learned a good bit on reading wind over and around terrain and making making adjustments.  Targets were primarily between 400 and 1000 yards. A few of the pics my wife took over the weekend showing some of the range.

Glad I was the one doing the water pump.

For them pesky moose I recommend 180 grains of high speed lead.
One of em does a good job at fillin a freezer.
And the makes some darned good eats.
Moose, don’t shoot the calf. Mama no so beuno with that.
And don’t get between em.
They’ll leave you alone mostly.
And they can do 30 through bush you can’t walk through. Uphill.

Ken, you’re not in the desert any more...

Oh. It snowed some today as well.

Got my new bearings pressed in after heating the pulley up to around 160 it wasn’t too hard. Works like a champ now.

Yep, upgraded to the Vortex Razor Gen II over the winter.  It's a nice optic and definitely better then the Burris I was running last year.  Somebody I'll get some really premium glass like a Tangent Theta or Zero Compromise, but for now Razor is working well.

Like vortex, looking at a couple for my 7mm as the old 3-12 44mm is very dated.

The last part of the "U" is in storage as it would only leave me about 18" to be able to walk around it.......so it went from a "U" to an "L"

26 pounds of bacon in the smoker.
Taking too long.
I’m tired but gotta get it done.
Almost there.

Plans in place to head to cabin next week come help or high water. Ice is slowly going but will be at least another week before I can get the big boat in.

Borrowing a 14 footer to push in where I can.
Got most of everything out there I need.
So will be a cooler of food. A cooler of drinks. A Rubbermaid of other food and a jug of water.

The ice is going quickly but hanging on hard.
The strike the guys had kept me from staying a couple weeks ago. It’s gone to arbitration now so I can have my vacation now. But I’m now two weeks behind on gazebo two point oh.

Well the bacon is packed.

20 pounds + in flat bacon packs and two pounder plus in burnt ends.

Got the hitch off the truck.
Day three.
Had to drill it out.
Mama on a five foot chunk of 1” square and me running swing press at a punch in the drilled out pin.
Been in all winter and is a solid bar. And a tight hole.

So now the boat is home and has had part of its spring service. Need some parts to complete the remaining.
Non show stopper stuff at least but needs done.

Just a keen eye and that’s it.

The knife is only used for slicing steaks and now bacon.
It is my processing knife and is literally razor sharp.

It’s not as straight and even as it appears but it’s pretty darn good for free hand.

I slice it fresh out of the fridge.
Never thought about partly frozen.
That would help some for sure.

Never thought about partly frozen.
That would help some for sure.

Yeah, it seems to make it slice much easier for me.  When i make ground meat, brats, whatever, i cube it up, season it, stick in the freezer for about 1.5 hours along with all of the grinder parts.

I throw mine in the freezer for an hour or so before running it through the slicer.

It’s bacon madness!

I’m heading to the lake tomorrow.
The question now is which boat.
Favourable wind is getting rid of the ice quickly.

The good news is, if I am in the 14 footer, I only have to push off shore now.
I’ll be able to drive to a spot to put it in water as if this morning.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.
