Not so far away from purchasing tires and wheels for the 2500 Suburban.
I am totally unimpressed by all these super costly gaudy aluminum wheels sending young people into debt.
I think I like the low cost and utility of a basic steel wheel. THought I'd get a 17X9 steelie, paint it Farm-all gray mount up the tires with beads inside and call it GTG.
Steelies can be replaced inexpensively or straightened if banged up runnin' over jap cars.
Thoughts?

16" steel 8x6.5 fits 100x more than 18". ford dodge Toyota are all large center hub bore and will work on GM in a pinch with little vibration issues. Steel can be easily bent back into shape. I've taken one that looked like a V back to semi round with a propane torch and 5lb sledge and drove home off the mountain. with aluminum, I would have been tossing the broken pieces and waiting on the rescue chopper.

Don, You mentioned wanting to take Frau to broadway...that means appearance counts too, so to me plain steel would not fit the bill.
PYOs came on that stock and they are pretty strong and they are available in quantity on ebay etc. My vote would be looking at some stock pyos. My 2001 had pyos and I drove it pretty hard and never bent a wheel, especially in a 16 with a bunch of meat on the sidewall. Its not like a lo profile 24

not a bad deal, basically new for 200. Besides, that Burb is likely to be gathering dust and pushed in and out of a garage for the next few years....

I do take the Frau to Broadway
We take the GJ
-
Was thinking of these
If that is a deco steel ring it would be a good curb feeler
If its fake, then the wheel w/o the bolts all over the rim
Paint em some obnoxious color to hippies (Gray) and call it done
Looking at both 16" and 17"
The 16" wheel has less BS pushing the tire outboard a bit more. Hard on wheel bearings but make for a stable off camber ride

KY is known for bourbon not whisky....TN is known for whisky

KY is known for bourbon not whisky....TN is known for whisky
That’s correct but I think they are both produced more in KY versus anywhere else in the US. That may be incorrect but I think the large producers are located in KY. The small batch producers are in TN if I recall correctly.
-
In order to be called bourbon they have to be made in KY. Everything else is whiskey.

Incorrect, bourbon is American made (51% corn) and type of storage (new charred oak barrels) along with that it’s typically sweeter than whiskey. It is true it used to be made in bourbon county ky ( hence the name) but there are no distillers there any longer. American made and it can be a bourbon.
-
To my knowledge I have never tried bourbon. Suggestion that isn’t gonna break the bank?

Not sure about the break the bank part, bourbon is like a good whiskey no bottle worth it’s weight is less than $50. Personally if you want to try some I’d suggest finding a restaurant that has a deep list (we have several here local to me) and you can try a few. The one place I’m thinking of has 2 oz pours and prices range from $5 maybe up to $30 a pour. This way you can try several and not have to invest in a full bottle. Or stop by my place sometime is always an option too!

Never had Jim Beam? not great bourbon by any stretch, but it's technically bourbon.
I make it a point to get a different variety of whisky or bourbon each time I go out with the wife or the guys. So far i'm really happy with buffalo trace KY bourbon and Knobb Creek whisky.

What wheels are 4-6 weeks lead time?

I think the last time I looked at steel wheels, procomp sold a wheel that was simple black, no pin stripe. It was really affordable.
In fact

Stockton wheels
Read through their site
All wheels are custom built, not stocked and pulled
Existing orders//they say lead time 4-6 weeks

Almost exactly what I am looking for, am looking at Dave
either 16 X 10 or 17 X 9
Still thinking about cams/heads/torque converters. tire diameter, power range, and tire availability for super cheap tires
Here's the point where I have evolved to
Brand names are meaning less and less
Case in point is my John Deere tractor. Used to be the cadillac of tractors. Now just the same as the run of the mill units, although still trying to command premium dollars
I believe that phenomena has swept the entire manufacturing sector, even tires
Granted there are some really good, premium tires out there
But the truth is our Congress moved America's manufacturing base to China. In doing so, they now build over there with the most modern technology, better than a lot of our heavily regulated and taxed stuff
The result is that American companies are really just manufacturing in China, or India, or Korea instead of here (In large part)
So cheapo korean and chinese tires are really just as good as BF goodrich, Goodyear and most others. So why pay $369 a tire for a BFG when I can get a Kanitia with the exact same tread pattern (Read: Stolen technology) for $191?
So, with respect to this burb build of mine, I am either buying GM parts, things made strictly in the USA or going to quality cheapo chinaman stuff. With the wheels...Well, what are wheels anyway? Either you use them to fill the air-gap between your hubs and the tire beads or you use them to make some statement about your manhood or something like that.
I'm all over that. Do ya dubs, all $2000 of them and roll on (From payment to payment) or just foll the void with something servin' a purpose.
This time I'm just doing the latter. Lost my man card to the poodle or doodle thing, so no longer have anything to prove. But I do need something to maintain air pressure and center the tire on the brake rotor, so a wheel is a wheel to me at the moment.
See that? That's how to turn a simple wheel discussion into a political and character discussion...I'm good! ;-))
-
Great Lake Off Road, 100% American made in fly over country with smart butt commentary added at no extra charge!
Stay away from rock crawler wheels, other than that I think you’re ok. I welded on a set once and they were made out of some really odd material FYI....

Trump made an argument for a private contractor armee. Dunno, that could go either way
Thing is you don't get to do the contractor thing without first serving the uncle. It is there you break things, wreck vehicles and crash aircraft. After getting all of that out of your system, you graduate to operating old junk for a lot of money and it's the wisdom, in my view that added to the experience that gets the job done.
But could you create a contractor Armee out of 20 year olds? Never. Gotta get the seasoned, pissed off old/middle aged cuss that just isn't going to put up with a bunch of nonsense. We don't ask permission to shoot you, we just shoot you and revel in the silence.
Silence is golden!

Or other governments left over/captured equipment or new equipment that makes it way into areas it not supposed to be.
One big caveat is in a lot of cases you are on your own if things go bad, its VERY important you understand what and what will not be done for you before you sign up to be a contractor/observer.
