The stepper motors just start acting “weird”. Not reading right when they always have before, going past their min/max, etc.
The fact that it started happening right after you changed the tune is suspicious though. Like JR says, plenty of places that rebuild those clusters all the time. Have you ruled out the stepper motor in the gauge cluster being bad? They’re known to do that.

Mwahahahaha happens to the best of us. I did the exact same thing. I couldn’t get it to run without hooking a booster/charger to it. That must have provided just enough wiggle on the negative cable to make contact and allow it to start. Got it out of the garage, took it up the road and romped on it— fell flat on its face. Got it home, then realized both battery grounds to the block were loose. 117

Size definitely plays a factor getting in under the dash to get that clip off. Wasn’t too bad for me with just a slotted screwdriver, but you have a few years on me ;). I think it was more difficult getting it back on.

You don’t use a gasket. GM uses a type of RTV from the factory.

Hope it separates from the trans easier than mine did. The dowel pins hold it really well. A 2x4 across the torsion bars is a great trans support. 149
