Ok, time to start a shop build thread. We are buying (under contract at moment) an L-shaped storage condo. It measures 1125 sq ft, has a service entry door and two overhead garage doors. One is 10 x 14 and the other is 12 x14. 16 foot ceilings, electric thermostat controlled heater & 125 amp panel. Should be able to start building a mezzanine in it next week. After some thinking it will be a wooden structure with solid second story floor. Here she is & I will get better pics of the rest of facility later. Facility is gated & has biometric entry, fully video secured & a club house for the old guys to BS & drink coffee. Members have restroom and shower facility on site. It has an HOA, is taxed as commercial (single downside imo) & most guys tack on a rider policy to home insurance to cover assets. Building insurance is covered via Hoa fees.

Yeah it’s clean now, he had several other units with the floors epoxied. It was a $5k option and well no sense paying $5k to have me end up ruining it.

2 questions... forgive my ignorance...so you would actually own it, so you could do whatever you want, within hoa guidelines?
..and, how close is the bathroom?(sounds important)

We own it, they have been increasing around 7% per year the last four years or so at least. I spoke with this guy for the last two years ( still have emails ). So basically we own it just like a condo house. I can do whatever inside the building, for the record no Mary Jane business allowed though.
Thee are 6 units or so between me and clubhouse ( facilities) so 400-500 foot maybe?
-
Do you have basic drinking water at your location? Or is that club house also?
What other shops or storage units being used for near by? Like minded folks as yourself?

Basic drinking water is in clubhouse. Along with kitchenette & lounge etc.
The locals, from the few I have met they are definitely like minded. A few small businesses work out of them. A few hot rod guys build toys there. One guy is a military vehicle guy and he has a full kitchen he wheels out at 4th of July and everyone has a get together. They cook hot dogs & burgers then watch fireworks over the dirt track that is directly south of this place. I heard there is a group of old guys who get together and eat breakfast at some hole in the wall cafe. For some this is a place to retreat to from HH6.....
-
Worth noting there are around 5 of these types of places within 15 mins of our new house 1 is within a mile actually but I didn’t care for the guy running it. They did have restrooms in each unit though & were a bit higher per sq ft then what I’m paying. The place I’m at runs from $130 a sq & up depending on new or used units & size etc. My unit was used & is a second phase build newer ones have some slight differences. This was started in 08 and is on its fourth & last phase coming up.

So odly enough. I have had a long time thought of building a similar style place. A getaway type place. Two level MaNsion for those guys. Lowest level garage shop open styling. I was thinking like a cross but with more sides. Upper level sort of cigar shop style and bbq joint. Open kitchen bar but no staff. Provide your own service.

I calculated the material for the 16 foot X 14 foot mezzanine I will be building in a week or two. Will send short list out for quote Monday.
6pcs 4x6x16 foot Douglas fir posts will notch for laminated beams
17pcs 2 1/2 x 9 1/2 I Joists x 16 foot laid on 12 inch centers
2 pcs 10 or 12 inch laminated beam x 16 foot
9 pcs 23/32 nd 4 x 8 sheets plywood (flooring)
3 pcs 2 x 12 x 16 foot (stairs)
3 pcs 2 x 10 x 16 foot (treads)
Yes, little overkill but will not be going anywhere....
-
Sounds about like the size loft I am doing, I had planned in tying off of two walls and two post oof the other side to the floor, metal posts to floor. All other material is same. Interested in your cost vs mine. Do you by chance have wheelwright lumber in your area. It may be just a local shop

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Time frame, I can have the loft built and in place by myself in 2 solid days. Steel, well that process is 4 x as long not including getting it powdered. In addition I think the wood structure will hold heat better in the winter (underneath it) as I plan to have my mill, lathes, drill press and saw under it and tarp the front so I don’t have to heat whole shop all the time. The second down side to this space is no gas line run into it. Had they done that I could run a a radiant tube heater very efficiently.
I did consider steel posts and two I beams then I joists. After considering it I really do not see any benefit.

I haven’t ordered my material yet but I would be happy to get a starting quote to go off, momma isn’t gonna like the additional cost upfront but will like the storage area that is all hers when it’s done. Mine is looking like 15x12

Copy, I’m gunna build it to be able to park an Abrahams tank on it....
-
Shawn I’d advise to go with the 11-1/2 I joists. The 9-1/2s I used weren’t as solid as I’d liked over the same span even though I got the 230 series with wider thicker flanges. True mine are on 16 center but still flex without a ton of weight on them
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
Charles how far did you span them?
-
16 ft 16oc
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
Copy, 11.5 s then
I’ll still hold the 12 inch centers and should be good
-
Yeah that was one of my biggest disappointments. I used span tables and engineering notes and it was still too spongy

-
Not bad mind you but just not rock solid. Within L/360 but I wanted it stiffer

I plan on having some weight up there, overkill isn’t a bad idea. I appreciate the feedback, Dave & Ken that doesn’t include you.....

Uh, ok.

Didn’t realize you were watching this thread, if I had I would have made a reference to H.
You know something along the lines of Tex & I are designing this loft to be strong enough to even hold H. That way you could have something of reference you’re familiar with you know, so as to make sure this thread has a feeling of all inclusiveness for you.

Acquired access to the new shop Friday. Wife moved a bunch of her house junk into it Sat. Nothing like moving stuff three times....
So at 11 am the local lumber yard dropped this off from a roll back bed truck.
A little sorting and we had our components for the mezzanine.
I had two hours, so I cut posts down to 8’ & started notching them to accept the engineered beam that will be cradled into the posts.
I had two cut and had to head home to meet window cleaners......
-
& the doper window crew never showed....
So I went back and finished notching these.

Looks good. Did some of that today. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181009/8bb2401427dd1718fa946a99d239de8b.jpg)
I walked some beams and cut some rough saw lumber 8x8 with our chainsaw. Than put them under this beam I was standing on
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
So yesterday was about three hours worth of work, maybe....
Today I was able to squeeze in around five hours. I started the day trimming the engineered beams to 16’ then braced them to a single post and stood them up.
Then stood another post up and bolted them together, square, brace and repeat other side of the bay.
-
From there it was trimming the i joists to width of bay which was 14’
(http://i.imgur.com/KQZcmdI.jpg)
And at days end today roughly eight hours into the build.
-
You would benefit greatly from leaving enough room in the ends of the floor joists to put up what we call rim board. 1 1/2 wafer board that you toenail to the top plate ( your beam) and shoot into the top and bottom of your floor joists. Keeps that floor from rocking and rolling.
You could also substitute this with cutting blocks out of your scrap joist cut offs to go in between the joists on each end.
What is the plan for anchoring to the concrete?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
Copy on stiffening it up, still have to square things up down below as well.
I haven’t officially closed on the property, think I’m doing that the 24th. I told owner I wouldn’t drill the floor until I owned it. But I’ll make angle iron floor mounts.
-
I have two more posts to install as well (middle of each beam)
-
Was able to squeeze in 4 hours roughly today. Started by installing those two middle posts and per the plan (which Dave beat me to the punch on as he described in his last post) went about bracing the i joists with drops from them. I was able to get about half on each side from drops. Then started sheeting the deck with liquid nail and screws. I’m using all timber locks or screws on this build.
Here is where I left it this afternoon.
-
In the morning I’m going to return a junk 2x12 they sent me as it’s split down the middle and won’t make for a very good stair stringer. Will pick up remaining cross bracing material and some 2x8 to frame in the upper portion of the stairs.

So I’m going over my 2 day estimate a little. Have roughly 20 hours in this project now and that includes swapping out a junk 2x12x16 they sent me and buying some 4x posts and more timber lock lags.
Today was time to square and stiffen up things a little. So I started by cutting 45 degree braces from the 4x4 posts.
And this is where I left off today, 3/4 of decking has been laid and I ran out of timber locks so I bought more on the way home. Finish attaching 4x braces tomorrow and frame the stairs.
-
Nice clean work there Shawn!
-
If it’s still a little wobbly for your tastes, you might consider a full x brace from floor to top between each post using 2x4 or even 1/4 cable and turnbuckles
Of course the front you’d have to leave open with just the corner braces
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
-
Front to back it’s already very solid & im missing a few braces yet. Side to side it sways a bit yet but I have 4 more braces to install & then the 4 posts and stairs. I am closing on the 24th so after that then I’ll bolt it down and think it will be good honestly. Some of the sway I’m getting is more of a wobble as until this is complete and weighted down it can slide on the Crete a bit. I can actually push it and move it by myself if I care to at the moment.
-
That last sentence sounds pretty useful, as in:
#1-changing light bulbs
#2- better built than those Walmart fold up shades (Will it fit in the Jeep?)
#3-add chain=mobile gantry
#4-add ramps and cut floor out=mobile lube "pit"
...and last
#5- mobile speach platform, for when Shawn runs for Gov'ner
;P

Started this morning adding some more bracing. I had to leave for several hours mid day but was able to get a good chunk of stairs complete. The extra bracing really stiffened this structure up. I don’t think I’ll have any issues once I get this finished.

It looks to be square!

Yep, looking good but I agree with the bracing. Even a small cable "X" along the sides will do so much and you know you are going to load it up!
So when is the web site going to be up? Looking for a few things for the SAS as I finish the sub.
-
Forget the X cable, my wife sent over more of her junk. That loft ain’t going anywhere unless it takes a direct hit by an F5 tornado (shop is in weld county Colorado so it could happen). Sorry forgot to snap a pic...
JR, honest answer on website is I’m not sure. Making progress but I’m the hold up and it’s down the list on priorities at the moment. If you need something specific PM or call, I’ll get you pics and pricing if I have something suitable. Best I can do at moment, my apologies.
-
Moved more of the wife’s stuff to shop loft. Then moved stuff from last weekend in the shallow bay to the loft (nothing like moving stuff 3x!). Baylee helped, other two were MIA. Then ran to HD, shelving units arrived 10k, 2500 per shelf. Bought three at $200 each and free shipping. Wanted ones in NT but their shipping is obscene to Hippyland. Set first one up today as a 3 shelf unit, 4th shelf is going to be positioned as a work station between two racks. Each shelf unit comes with one solid shelf & 3 wire racks. Solid top is leaned up against wall to left or rack.

Looks good.
Whats that yellow, "stick" thing leaning against the left wall in that 2nd to last pic?

Costco usually has shelves like that, too, and they aren’t bright yellow... might save a few $ on the brand name, but judging from your previous pics you like those yellow tools ;)

I had checked Costco & HD both, neither had shelves locally that were rated at 2500# per shelf. My steel parts weigh up quick.
I found these online and had HD ship them in for free from Cali. The gladiator units were also an option but the lead time was quite a bit longer and price wasn’t any better. The solid single shelf for me to use as a work bench between two units was another selling point.
I like dewalt though on tools as you mentioned. Worth noting other than these shelves and my cordless units both big saws were either bought used or clearance for new models. My cordless I received a large rebate to trade old units in.
-
Of course now I look and can’t find the shelves of which I speak in the Costco app...
I like my dewalt mitre and table saws, but I like my Makita drills.

Not sure, level I know isn’t dewalt but that case might be....
We stopped by local farm store today (Jax) after church for paint supplies and they have HUGE dewalt tool selection. I was definitely eyeballing a couple more. I am going to have two garages now so I have a valid need!

A thought although it is too late
You created steps with a comfortable rise, right?
Your wife is short, right?
Create the staircase with a 12" rise per step and:
1. She will avoid the mezzanine
2. You will get a good leg workout during a routine days messin' about in the G-Shop

I came home late one evening working on that mezzanine, she makes comment “I think you like the peace and quite there”
Truth be told yes some as it’s familiar, however there is only one of me & if I don’t do it no one else will.

So first time in several days (wife’s surgery) was able to get to shop and spend a few hours finishing up the mezzanine. Forgot to snap a couple pics but it is complete. I left off the two 45 degree braces at the back posts. After I put the stairs in and finished floor it was pretty darn rigid. So I’m going to hold off. All in all I calculated pretty good, only thing I ended up extra was a 2x10 & almost 3 full sheets of 3/4 plywood. I’ll most likely use it to make shelves and maybe a workbench top if I need one. Going to move some furniture upstairs tomorrow and clean up my mess. Then start moving equipment. I close on the shop officially weds so then I need to start wiring stuff.
-
I think JR asked if I had room for equipment in another thread.
I’ll leave this right here....

why not something like this?

-
I barely wash my car let alone wax it, what would you propose I do with that? I suppose when Ken visits we’d have a way to load H in his truck maybe?
Suspension / drivetrain work is easier with a 2 post
-
So I did speak with Ken when I was researching this for the record. Figured he knew something about them and he did. Wanted to be able to lift a crew cab 4x and he stated that he had no issue lifting them on his lift (fully loaded service trucks etc). So I stayed at 10k lift capacity (saved a little coin). Then looked at rotary, a German unit (can’t recall name) and BendPak. BendPak was one company that made full length uprights (not bolt together). In fact I ran across a piece of marketing material that compared BendPak side by side with Rotary. In the end the BendPak just seemed like a heavier built unit. In fact the shipping weight is several hundred pounds more in fact.
-
Nice. I’m planning on one in the future so thanks for doing the research.
Just make sure your slab is sufficient for that concentrated load.

Yes, and you had stated that was with H in the bed of said s10. I figured I was gtg then?!?
-
The lift companies recommend 4" of slab to be GTG. Not sure I agree, but that's what I was told.
I made my slab 16" across the middle just in case.
-
Wow!
Ken, I used to pour concrete on State & Fed funded jobs. Sewer & water treatment plant construction mostly. The only time we ever poured that thick was on huge holding tanks. You could have just upped the bag mix and saved yourself some coin.
However, I can understand with H around and trying to get her loaded why you might have concern....
-
the one I linked had the air lifts running down the center.
so I understand that a 2 post lift "CAN" lift up to 10k. but for me, I just truly don't feel safe standing under something like my truck weighing 8500lbs while it is sitting on a teeter-totter. I have personally witnessed several trucks falling off 2 post lifts, not only from human error but also the lack of safety engineering put into a 2 post lift design.
but on the flip side, if "1" person and "1" person only who knows how to put bigger vehicles on a 2 post lift is the only one doing it and doing it safely then there should be no Darwinism/blonde/fark me how did that happen/trips to the ER/etc moments.
-
Nate, I was being a smart butt. I saw the air lifts, for me getting a freshly painted / assembled 1 ton axle up in there looks to be a chore. I can think of a few other jobs and too much junk in the way for my liking. Yours is probably a safer unit but as you stated it’s just me who has lifted, rigged and moved many items over the years much heavier than a 1 ton crew cab. Knock on wood the 2 post doesn’t scare me as I’ve used them before.
-
That will be a nice addition for sure!
3 people within a few blocks of me have those. When the TH goes I am really thinking of one.
-
Wait, I think Nate just burned me pretty good.

Honestly the comment was directed more at jacka$s rice burner operators that are not even smart enough to know where to place the lift arms as well as know how to lower it onto the stop locks....(so in case of a power outage/loss of ait, the lift dosent come smashing down.
Something like these.....lol

Oh, hahaha.
.. well you did post that right after Shawn said he talked to me!
And, my buddy bought a new $25k lift a few years ago, for exhaust work (besides oil changes, it's the only thing they're good for :) ) , on motorhomes. One safety lock failed, broke a cable and dumped it over on it's side, into another vehicle. Was a bad, expensive day.
-
I watch fail videos all the time. Not just those but all kinds, great watching Darwin at work.
I see in some shops they use the drive on, then lift off that. Whats the use, you have to work around it all time, but you have a table!
-
JR, if I had a shop large enough and more money than sense I would have a second like Nate posted
-
Not that this matters at this point because you’ve already got it all figured, but, back in 2005 I helped a friend open his own shop after working for the man for 20 years. We installed two of the ramp style lifts in said shop, on TERRIBLE concrete that we ended up drilling completely through when putting the post lags in the ground, both lifts are still there with no issues. He is like you in that he works alone, even though he could use and permanent oil changer and tire mounter, while he does everything else.
Well in that department..... had a high school kid drive his dads truck off the front of the ramp into his toolbox once, but didn’t damage the lift, forced upgrade to
A larger box though.
Then on the 2post vs 4 post, I’m tall and lanky and getting into tights spots on the 4post lifts will make you angry, because the blasted thing is just enough in the way to stop you from getting the last bolt out.
EDIT: Thanks Shawn for such a quality product!!!

You received the parts? Great, glad we could help get you squared away.
Real world feedback is always appreciated too!

I did!!!! On thursday actually, but I just got back to the house to get them opened today. As far as truck parts go, theyre basically art work! Once I gather the rest of the parts, I'll revive my thread from the depths and post up the install. Sorry to clutter up your shop build, but wife and I wish you the best getting back into GLO.

Ok, 2 post lift in my shop as of 6am this morning. I’m a little irritated at Summit Racing at the moment. With everything going on in past 2 weeks this being delivered turned into a huge monkey on my back. From the get go Summit knew I wanted this delivered to my shop not my billing address (which in this case was my house).
This BendPak lift shipped from manufacturer with no notice of when it was to be delivered (I blame summit for poor communication). Summit set it up per YRC to be delivered to my home. Of course it arrived when I was out of state dealing with mom’s and pops. Get back this week and spent several days talking to yrc freight (great to deal with btw), BendPak (also great to deal with so far) & summit racing (a** clowns). Long story short summit tried to charge me an extra $272.00 to deliver unit to my shop less than 5 miles from home and 4 miles closer to interstate. YRC freight laughed when I asked if that was an additional charge from them, it was not and they don’t operate that way.
I will not be dealing with summit going forward. Both BendPak and YRC were more than willing to help however they could. Summit, wanted to extort money from me after I spent several K with them.
So I got up at 4 today to beat traffic and traveled 45 mins to east side of Denver. Hauled this lift on my 8 foot 3500lb trailer all 13 foot of it. Used engine hoist to get it unhooked from 4Runner as trailer jack is inoperable with lift up against it.

Well, I did ALOT of thinking about how to block this to haul it. For the record it hit 70 on that trailer.
The rear of the trailer was my biggest concern, I was actually more concerned with bending the back 2x3 tube cross member under the rear. So I ran a 4x4 across from side to side at the rear to help that 2x3 with some extra support. The front is fine with the tube side rail & a frame for the hitch (lots of support there). So by running that 4x4 across to the outside which is strengthened with the tube side rails (think box truss design) I spread the load. I figured worse case that back 2x3 cross member would bend and I’d have to cut it out and patch in new.
I’ve had 3200 lb of steel on 2 wooden skids on that trailer with no issue btw.

Nice lift, to bad summit screwed the pooch on a purchase.

It’s ok, I give free publicity & they sent me a email asking about my purchase. Once I have it up and it works properly I’ll be sure to let them know what I think...
-
It gets better, summit just called to say they’d wave those fees
Thanks Summit Racing, appreciate it now that I spent hours of my life trying to work this out with you and already have it taken care of. The other part I didn’t mention was yrc was going to start charging me for it sitting on their dock. Normally freight companies limit you to 3 days. Yrc understood my situation and bent over backwards for me at 1.5 weeks holding it.
-
Sorry Shawn. I’ve gotten to where I just request terminal pick up and have them fork in to the truck or trailer.

I normally do too but the length concerned me (with my tiny equipment) and I have a neighbor with a forklift I can rent for a case of beer. So delivering it (free shipping btw was advertised) to my shop seemed too easy.

You'd laugh at the way I put up the first one, before getting a forklift. All I had was the little NH tractor...wait..I should say, I was lucky to have a tractor. I got the hoist up as high as it would go, which was about a foot too short...so I did what any guy would do, drive the tractor up on railroad ties, with 4x4s stacked on top of them. Not too sketchy. Lol

Then ended here after removing two 50 gallon drums worth of cardboard and packaging. Also texted Ken trying to get him to wager whether I can stand these two uprights vertical with nothing but my manly physique. I even offered him a video of me doing so from my best side and really surprising me he still declined. He did request if this goes sideways for video of said catastrophe... here I was hoping for a bottle of some Arizona made whiskey and no such luck.

Like Ken stated yesterday “I’m not that dumb!”
70% of the weight is in bottom 4 foot, blocks are 32 inches from ground.
Back in my 20’s I would load Dana 60’s & 70’s from flat off the ground into my F250 pretty often. However, I’m not 20 & these are quite a bit heavier than the 70’s....
& I know you ship whiskey!

Find the safety books, 5 of them and they double shipped each one. Maybe they’re trying to tell me something?
Then, apparently I opened up the wrong side of the bolt box because the install instructions were buried at the bottom. So a little studying tonight, I have a medium size corded hammer drill. Not sure if I have large enough bit and may just rent from hd & large drill instead. We’ll see, I then ran to HD and picked up 100 ft of 1 in EMT & 20 ft of 2 in. Will come out of main box with 2 in to a junction box then run 1 in 3 or 4 separate runs around shop.

I bought a hammer drill from HF and have beat the crud out of it. It is the bauer SDS max 10.5 amp #63441. I have used it twice now for hours and it never let me down. The go for about $100 on sale, but no bits.
-
I need a 3/4 in bit & found I have a brand new bit so gtg there.
Pulled panel cover off and started running 2 in but alas no large sheet metal screw to tie hangers to wall.....
& yes for the record working on electrical with an aluminum later is not osha approved. Also for the record my shop is too dangerous for osha so I do not allow them in my shop! :beercheers:

Well I was going to use 1.5 however HD was missing some parts in stock. 2 inch goes 20 ft to a large splitter box where it will go 3 directions for now in 1 in with the availability to add more 1 in routes if needed so 2 in really isn’t a big deal over 1.5
I also despise fighting to pull wire, we used to do the big cable with a forklift at my last place of employment....

The pallet rack I picked up at a local auction, setup and a little more organized. Ran me $125 9’ tall 42” deep and 94” wide Has 4 shelves rated at 8k per shelf. The two shelves I have were on it and made from plywood with 2x4 supports. May pick up the regular wire shelves down the road from a rack resale place in Denver. Good enough for now with bulk storage.

Neither......
There are forklifts on site but honestly haven’t used them at all yet. Biggest hurdle was getting cross section on top of lift. I rigged a snatch block from ceiling and Baylee held the rope (keeping one end up) and I walked other end up a ladder to get it in place.

A little limited with loft and open garage doors. Part of the idea for having these is moving heat from ceiling electric heater down to the floor. I also have floor fans and may install a wall mounted one. We’ll see but it’s a start...
-
So in addition to plumbing shop for additional air compressor and adding more light I wrote the check last night for this unit. Been turning away a lot of $500 jobs due to 2 post or the long bay it’s in being occupied. I called BendPak direct and they wanted to sell me a second lift so I pulled the trigger.

That'l free some room up, nice.
-
I figure the money I can save on garage size costs will more than pay for a lift like that. Double parking really helps, and being able to work on the underside of a rig not laying on the floor is a big plus.
-
Soon as my building is cleared, it will get a 2 post. I will need axle and tire access more than parking.

Shawn really want to here the report on the fans. Looking at fans now for the outdoor kitchen. Reviews are all over the place and no formal standards for air movement measurement.

So I have both mounted forcing air down in a 1200 sq ft shop (floor plan is shaped like a large L) with one 3/4 way back in deeper bay and then one up centered between front overhead doors about ten feet inside the shop. I keep a large floor fan under loft blowing towards doors. My shop stays a good 10 degrees cooler than shops without. They move a decent amount of air with my ceilings at 14.5’

Jib column is ready to erect, need to trim 4 corners of beam at hinge end and cap opposite end then it will be ready to hang in place. I triple passed the column side of the hinge mount as it had about half the welding surface area the beam side had. After triple pass I looked inside of pipe and could see two distinct rectangles where the 1” x 1” x 2” stand off stock for the two pieces of DOM tube were welded on so the 5/8” wall pipe has good penetration.

Finished shop jib crane this morning and hung hoist then a few more lights. Now I’m waiting on my electrician to come in and properly wire all the new lights and ceiling fans. It’s one cabinet, door at each end. I bought it with intention of blasting housings once I get shop air finished and do some tlc to this cabinet. Has 4 guns inside two that hang vertically from top middle of each side. And then two guns one either side. I think for manufacturing purposes they just bolted the two cabinets together.

On a side note he’s fun to harass especially when as last night he opens a box to find two blacks and a white in the box. I keep telling him electricity doesn’t care what color the wire is.....

That was me and it was marked, otherwise I couldn’t have hooked it up in first place correctly. I'm not an electrician (those guys have meters for a reason) so having extra around isn’t a priority. Wasn’t going to buy a roll of red for that last short run.

It’s ok, there are two runs in shop where colors aren’t exactly ideal and he’s found both. Like a darned blood hound. I get plenty of grief from him on using prebent 90 conduits, again not an electrician and only own one size conduit bender.

Single phase 240 two blacks is fine. It makes no difference. They’re the same voltage but just out of phase by 180 degrees. You can even run a black for neutral but you have to put a wrap of white electrical tape on it at the connection. 3 phase is a different story because you need The phases to match up with the winding on the motor so it’s not working against it’self.

Waiting for raptor liner to show up (which did today btw for the fummins) I decided to clean up shop and organize a bit. Which included building some shelving and adding some paint in a few places to give the shop some color over these next few cold months.

Safety Orange!
Helicopter doors were painted that color at the Army Aviation Center, Fort Rucker, Alabama. if you saw an Army aircraft with orange doors in AL, FL or GA, you knew students were flying it!

As of yesterday I sold the old shop. I had the floor epoxied and in all after expenses made some money and sent it down the road. New owners are using it mostly for storage.
