Front locker on IFS (specifically Don's CMax)
« on: September 24, 2014, 09:26:38 PM »
My extensive knowledge with front IFS 4 wheel drive is limited mostly to 1500s.  My 02 Avy ripped through 13 different half CVs, some of those due to my custom fabricated suspension lift.  Once those problems were remedied, I only went through another 2 or 3 joints, but all due to extreme stress while spinning.

I knew some guys who welded the spider gears on 1500 front IFS and it tore through the aluminum housing like it was paper-mache.  Do you have the same worries with the LML front IFS?

He did put it in 4WD when he picked up his trailer at my place one day last spring.  Flat terrain, dew on the grass, a little wheel spin at the rear, he promptly placed it in 4WD and showed that tall fescue who was Boss!

I read about you people in the bible recently. Jesus was perplexed by a certain doubting Thomas, but he loved him never the less...

Based on the many 4wd launches by my customers in tractor/sled pull, diesel drag racing, etc w/ some puling 1800hp+ and lack of complete detonation, I'm happy selling the eaton e locker for the front end of the 8 lug, 9.25 applications. (unfortunately they changed that once again in 2011 and if you recall during cmax's build we had a little snafu there). 6 lug, 8.25 ifs is not compatible with traction devices of any kind. their unique 4wd engage/disengage design does not allow for anything besides a fully open differential les the transfercase suffer major damage. the welded fronts you were talking about were probably the truck's version of vomiting up the bad stuff.

9.25 8 lug good, 8.25 6 lug bad.

That's the day I winched my neighbors gazebo up straight again...It was starting a slow slide into his pond...That 9K T-Max stood it straight up!

I don't see any gazebo.  You know the rule.  No pics, it didn't happen. What I see is a truck being winched downhill.

Why haven't they came up with something for the front end yet? Lack of response or just think it's a non issue?

I don't think I would have used a gazebo as weak looking as that as an anchor point, but I guess its probably OK since your are winching the truck downhill...

Duly noted.  Iced tea...

On a side note, this qualifies as off-roading in your hoity-toity neighborhood?  I suppose you were wearing an ascot with your smoking jacket too?  Sipping cognac?

Dang!

It would require a complete re-design for the aftermarket. usually 3-7 years behind the OEM manufacturers.
