Winter is ah comin’

Landing lake, our floatplane lake froze over Sunday night.
Small water in ditches and swamps frozen.
Big water 42 this morning. 51 last Thursday.
Foot of snow coming in the next week.
I’m guessing two weeks plus a tad for ice cover.
Early…

Tore the snowblower apart to fix the friction wheel.
There’s a chore.
A lot, and I mean a lot of parts have to come out.
Well it’s everthing other than the pulleys…

So now I’m waiting on parts as I’ve completely buggered it.
The large missing flat spot explains the erratic operation the past couple years.
The tubeless tires are no longer tubeless and now hold air again.

Lots of fall cleanup done and a bit more to go before snow flies and stays.
Yeah it’s that time again.
I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

That must be tires and wheels. There are deals out there and why I mount my own now. Sure that is not an option for everyone.

My 35s were $200 each. Wheel size goes up, so does the $$$.

Negative, got fed up with the app and minimal obstruction / it telling me find a better spot w/ only 3.21% obstruction……

Ended up being able to get fiber here. Sub installer initially fed me bogus info saying it had 3-4 splices from main line at highway by my home. Ends up it does not and now have extremely fast internet at the cabin

I honestly has a buddy try and use the tire rotation as a negative to owning the dually based off the cost to rotate tires.

My logical response to him “ if I’m to be concerned about the cost of tire mount and dismount on my truck to rotate tires @$30 a tire, I don’t think I should be buying a $85k truck”
He stopped trying to talk me out of buying it.

I don’t typically do much tire rotation.  I have always had good luck with keeping the tires inflated and running even.  We will see with this one.

I’d be more bummed at how time consuming it is to sit at the tire store while they rotate them all around

I’d be ok with that but my aluminum wheels from the factory are only finish polished on the outside. So I’d have to dismount them off the rim.

Believe it or not static electricity will cause fires. As the equipment moves through the field in extreme dry conditions like we have now it can be like dragging your feet on carpet. One of the towns near us was evacuated for wild fires earlier today. They are all back home now. This 4 Wheeler is parked in the north side of the shed with the south wind. That's what we are in now.

I was watching that BBC show, "Jeremy Clarkson's Farm" yesterday. They watched a field burn away, caused by a piece of equipment catching fire and setting everything off.

I can’t believe static builds up like that, I know they have ground straps I have seen on military vehicles, wonder if they have an option for farm equipment that might help.

I've been watching the weather up there. Noticed St. George got hammered. I see north of you getting snow all the way to my place. Fixing to pass through next Wednesday for a quick trip to check on the RV before winter. If the mice (or bear) have set up shop again I'm going to bring it home. If it looks good, I might bring the excavator home instead.

 Really hate to do that.

I drag a chain under the combine. The static electricity is really bad. I was vacuuming dust out of the guts of the combine doing some maintenace and I was getting shocked through my shoes standing on the platform. It was pretty hot too. Close to stepping on an electric fence. When I'm in the combine I wear these really cheap Walmart loafers because I like to take my shoes off in the cab to be comfy. I can't imagine there is much real rubber in the soles.

Two New Holland combines burned up this year in the area. They said they seen a flash of light under the combine and then it was on fire. Burned so fast there was no time to do but call 911 and the insurance company.

we had one go up mid august in a hay field here in OR, about 109 that day. same same, had just enough time to bail out of the tractor before the cab was engulfed. luckily they had finished bailing and were just foolish and idling in the field when the chaff took, but the fire was containable which is a major win in my neck of the woods.

Went to the doctor (urgent care ) for a sprained wrist and sinus infection. Doctor zeroed in on the sinus infection started asking about flu and covid symptoms never once asked if I had any covid shots. I guess the vaccines don't work and you can still get covid with or with out them. Glad I only took what I had too for my job.

Well winter came in full force the past couple days.
Looking to be above freezing the weekend and then gone I think.

I hope to see it all go as frost isn’t in the ground and bush yet.
And my snowblower is apart in the garage.
So if it gets to 40-42 like they’re claiming I may water my driveway. Currently has a four foot or so drift across it. And I don’t see me shovelin’ yet.
I’d wager we’re between 10-12 inches of snow.

Well, knock on wood but I don't believe in the shots at all for the flu or viruses.

Got through the spinal surgery OK...Hurting like two people

He removed a segment of Disc which was sticking into the spinal cord channel and said he cut away some bone spurs

On Oxy at the moment, and it hurts BAD! I can't imagine what this would feel like without that strong pain med. Mouth is dry. like, really dry. Can't pee yet...That could be a problem, but God has it

The prognosis for recovery is excellent...Just have to suck it up for a week or so

The prognosis for recovery is excellent...Just have to suck it up for a week or so

they had me on dilaudid after mine and it barely touched the pain. prayers for strength big D. you got this. keep up on the fluid intake and softeners like dave was saying and you'll make it just fine, and better on the other side.

Well guys, taking nothing away from Don getting better, sure he will.

We officially left Boy Scouts. Just didn't feel right anymore. Funny when I see Scouts at televised event how cool it is.

Here is what I sent them and the troop leader with names deleted of course.

Hello xxxx and xxxxx,

John is aging out and both Zachary and I have really lost interest in the current program direction.

I think in all it has been a great experience, but not going in the direction we like. Think my feelings have rubbed off onto the boys to, but I do not see that as a bad thing at all. I left Boy Scouts in my youth after bullying issues to which I addressed at the time by standing up to the bullys in front of leaders.

Over the last few years I have done surveys, a few emails and voiced my concerns over the direction of the Scouting program. Now Scouts accepts girls, you can be openly gay, and now transgender is OK?? Personally, I don't care who you are and what you do but is not what I want my boys exposed to. But the "Mandatory" Diversity Merit Badge for me was the last straw.

Scouts is for building our boys into men. That format has worked for over 110 years. Sure, times change, but I don't even think the BSA oath or Motto is correct. It is Boy Scouts of America. If Girl Scouts was/is broken, fix that, but they broke Boy Scouts to do that.

I have seen boys get into trouble at camps for saying things about girls, but girls are held to a different standard when things are said. And again, how are girls making Eagle scout so fast? Even though the average is about 4-6 years, it can be done in 2. It is not an easy task unless you get waivers.

I see the WOKE culture creeping into Boy Scouts, that is not a good thing. Also feel I am not the only one on this side of the fence.

Thanks for the good times! XXXXXXX,

Well since I can’t simply like JRs post I’ll write it out!!
Thank you Jr I believe it’s only a matter of time till that association goes belly up for real again.
So much mismanagement and problems and simply risk being a leader and all the liability that goes along with it.  Nope not for me anymore, nor my boys, nor my girls (if I had a young one).

Well written and glad you sent it !
