Yeah, if there's play, in say the idler, the warped rotor will be amplified at speed, causing the tires to walk....or as you put it, caster pulse.

Honestly wouldn't change anything without checking it first. 95k...mostly highway?

oh....what's "caster pulse"?

Fixed it JR.

If it turns out being the alternator, just make sure the replacement comes with that special pulley. I've seen some rebuilders use a conventional pulley to keep costs down.

Sounds like the clutching bearing on the alternator might have
Seized. When that happens, it doesn't "ratchet" to absorb the belt harmonics.

I'm a little touchy on the Willys Thang myself.  Spent close to 5 years on a 52 cj3 cutting out rust, and realized how hard it is to find straight rust free willys sheet metal. ...even in Az. Of course, they weren't very straight from the factory.
I need to finish that thing now that you gave me a little inspiration ...mine doesn't have a Cummins tho!

This is what I did, using silicone to keep moisture from getting under the chrome. It worked for 3 years before I built the new bumper.

He's stubborn to the core (darn Pilutz). Maybe we're just not used to him talking about budgets and what not.

Seriously tho, I've used the heck out my auger, from planting trees, to building fences, to drilling an oil well. You just can't beat it's usefullness.

disclaimer...I may have exaggerated on building the fences.

Sounds like a good start. Won't you have a basement left over after the burn?

Duh JR. I thought you had Don figured out by now...that's the future Jacuzzi/swimming hole. :)

5422
Keep in mind, this ain't no carburated '60s Hog you're working on. I would think that the exhaust is fine tuned to the engine.....could be wrong.

Get. 023. That size Flux wire, on the lowest setting,  can still burn through,  but it's more forgiving.

I've seen some starters break the block, but I'm pretty sure it was from faulty installation and not getting the bolts tight enough. They work loose, then snap the corner off on a cold startup. As long as the bolts are tight, it shouldn't break.

5428
From what I've seen, they're pretty decent. You have to relocate the fuel module to keep it cool...pretty easy. I've done a couple pumps, and seen a timing chain break (or maybe it was the key way, icr) and bend all the valves/push rods on one, but rarely anything major.

If those things work half as good as they look, I would consider that a major breakthrough for suppressing noise. Try it out and get back to us HC !!

.... Can't be a diesel with the 6 lugs and more than likely the 700 tranny.

Nice find,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

When did they stop putting them in the 1/2 tons? I thought that it was 92, when they went to the 6.5.

Jon, did we mess up your thread enough, or should we keep going? haha

DOTing, here I go...

Ken, are the 6.2 burbs worth having?

One is sitting near here.
Only if you despise having the ability to pass someone at will. lol

That being said, I work on a late 80s version with a dealer installed banks turbo, and it has 350k....not bad on a half ton that towed a trailer for the first 200k. She leaks, has next to zero compression, and on it's second injection pump, but still gets up and moves about every day.

'05 ? definately replace the bearings. I've seen some Pre-'04s go well past 200k on originals. They changed something in '04 (vendor?grease quality/quantity?) and I've had to change them in as little as 60k.....so I would consider you pretty lucky to get 150 !!

5437
I'm guessing the rpm limit goes hand in hand with some sort of detune that prevents harsh acceleration. I bet she'll wake up after break in.
