Firearms / Pistol question
« on: December 19, 2023, 10:18:41 AM »
With my grand kids getting older, I have always entertained the idea of buying like 5 pistols or rifles with consecutive serial numbers. I don't want to spend the money on custom-made that I would have a better chance of getting. Has anyone done this before or have any suggestions on how or if this is possible?

Thanks
Steve

D.O.T. / Medicare/Medicade
« on: October 27, 2023, 11:19:46 AM »
The wife turned 65 yesterday, and I will do the same in 2 years. Currently, we have Blue Cross and Blue Shield from my work and tricare, and she has Medicare. Does anyone know anything about Medicare and how it works with tricare or a good source to talk to? The government, I think, makes this stuff hard to understand just so they can give you the shaft.

What are you building? / Home modification
« on: May 08, 2023, 11:03:55 AM »
Not sure if this is the right place to ask this or not or if any of you had to deal with this.

We have steps that you have to access to get in and out of our house and in our second bath a tub/shower. When Damien gets discharge from the burn unit he will be staying with us and there is fear that he won't be able to handle the steps or the step into the tub. I think that we need to build some kind of porch and a walk in shower and would need to do that before he comes home. I don't think that there is anyway insurance would fund those projects before he is discharged.

Would I be better off to just fund the project and be done with it?

Contact insurance/worker comp and see if they will fund it?

Any other suggestions?

Coffee Induced Early Morning Rant / Business owners
« on: April 29, 2023, 05:15:15 PM »
Have to vent and this is coffee and lack of sleep rant.

The business owner that my son works for has just been obnoxious! There are several state agencies that have been talking to our son and the other man that where injured in the explosion and have hinted that criminal charges are most likely forthcoming against the owner, main for not having the license and safety devices/protocol need for the operation that there where doing. The owner and his wife have been up trying to find out what has been said under the rouse of being worried about the boys. The hospital security have escorted them off the property 3 time. The last time the owner passed himself off as my son's father so he could get into the ICU waiting room. Our daughter overheard him on his phone saying that it was a burner phone and some other stuff on his business. If you are going to operate a business that is hazardous make sure you have the safety stuff in place so things like this don't happen.

General Vehicle Related Discussion / Heated seats
« on: April 15, 2023, 09:16:00 AM »
I'm going to start off with I hate intermittent problems! Working on a 2006 silverado 2500HD CC. My drivers side heated seats have started turning on by it's self when the truck is started sometimes, but the switch for the heaters will work and turn them on /off.  However there are some times that it doesn't turn on when you start it but and can't turn them on at all with the switch and the only way to get them to start working is to shut the truck off open and close the drivers door and start the truck back up. I can't find a good schematic of that system so not sure what to start with or what signals should be at what pins. From the schematics I have found online it kind of points me to the "memory control module ".

Would anyone have a schematic to the heated seat system or a link I can go look at?

General Maintenance, How to/DIY projects / Truck will not shut off
« on: December 20, 2022, 05:44:31 PM »
So grandson came to visit us this weekend, when he went to leave I noticed a u joint clunk on his truck so I sent him home with mine which is 2 1/2 hour drive away one way. He called me today and said he he can turn the key off, remove the key and get out of the truck. The truck will shut down if you pull the ecm fuse in the engine bay. I'm think that it most likely would be the ignition switch but wanted to ask what else it could be and is there a better way to shut the truck off besides pulling the ecm fuse. The truck is an 06 chevy with the LLY /LBZ engine

General Vehicle Related Discussion / Toy hauler project. Maybe
« on: November 18, 2022, 03:40:52 PM »
Talking with the oldest daughter today and the subject came up of the need for something that could haul here 84 wrangler and a 35 bumper pull trailer. The truck would need to be able to sit 4 or more. What came to mind was something like what Jon did for is camper rig. What I was thinking was a long wheel base tractor with a sleeper, build a deck on the tractor and bumper pull the trailer. The kids are kind of limited on funds so $20-30 k and work would be about all the could swing right now.

Do you have any better ideas?

Anyone know if that is do able?

If so website or where would you look to find the tractor ro start the project?

Any ideas on the deck for the jeep?

Powerplant, Driveline, and Braking / Injector return line

I have the passenger side injector return line that is starting to leak, if I replace one side I may as well replace both. After all with with 394k I think I would leak a little.

Question any pros or cons of staying with the plastic fittings or switching to the aluminum?

Faith Discussion / God is everywhere
« on: August 03, 2022, 10:26:41 AM »
The teenagers had a wonderful experience last night after dinner. We had them sitting in a park area outside the restaurant talking to them about what we expected from them tomorrow as we are going to a park and they are going to engage people to talk about the gospel. The area that we will be in only has one evangelical church for 115K people. That is the church we are helping. After we sent the kids off in small groups to pray for tomorrow a young pastor and his wife (they had been watching us) came up and talked to us. He was from another area but knew of the efforts that the church we are helping has done. Before he left he prayed for the kids. Most of the kids said that after he prayed for them theg are ready for sharing their faith this evening. Just amazing that in such a lost area that this young pastor was able to pray for the kids and get them charged up. Nothing is impossible when God is there.

Faith Discussion / Satan is on my last nerve
« on: May 06, 2022, 11:18:11 AM »
I have experienced first hand as you get nearer to the Lord satan  and his people come after you harder. They have gotten on my last nerve! I won't turn away from the Lord so I guess I need to keep walking in the mud until I get with the Lord wants me. I would love to give out details but not on a public forum, I kind of feel that it would add to my troubles.

1) Group of people want to stop the naming of the Post Office in Bret's name. They say they are christens.

2) A state representative got himself placed on the board to the sober living house the wife started. He has broken so many laws about non-profits that the wife will be discontinuing her work. The last thing he told my wife is he wants to get rid of all the ladies that are there and get a "higher class" of ladies.  Not sure what he expects from rural Oklahoma. He says he is a christen.

3) The tornados hit the law office that the wife works in

4) all the health stuff the wife has dealing with.

Just tired, I know the Lord has this. I just needed to vent

Thanks for reading

Parenting / New dad advice

Our student ministry pastor is going to be a frist time dad. I would like to give some useful tips before the baby comes some fun and some practical. I have already given him
1) take mom in for a manicabout 3 weeks before the baby is due so she won't have nails to dig into his hands during a contraction

2) Ask the doctor for the owners manual when the baby comes.

Do you guys have any other great words of wisdom?

D.O.T. / So I won't get fired
« on: March 31, 2022, 11:11:24 AM »
So I don't DOT "Sending off a young man"

Way back when I worked and flew on the Air Force Airborne Command Post aircraft (the ones that could launch the nukes if we had to). Every day at the appointed time the tech(me) and some officer (O1-3) because of the 2 man policy around those aircraft. We had to go reset all the codes on the aircraft that sat on alert (ready to take off with in minutes). We one day the O2 was in the aircraft while I was  resetting the codes. He was practicing his fast draw and put a hole in the side of the aircraft. This in turn drew the attention of several young men with M16 looking for the person that did the damage. I never saw that O-2 again and we had ro get another aircraft to replace the one with a new hole in it.

I sure hope the Army has a better system on which officer gets sidearms.

Boss is this how it should be done? LOL

General Vehicle Related Discussion / Jeep project
« on: December 03, 2021, 05:12:30 PM »
Not technically my project but mine to see if I can fix. This is my daughter 1988 YJ wrangler with a 1995 engine. They are going to movie back to Oklahoma from Colorado next year and need to get it out of there garage for the sale of there house. The problem is that it won't start with the key but you can jump the starter to get it going. The son inlaw has been firing the part canno  at it for several months but hasn't gotten it to work. Now it is on dad to see if I can get it to start with the key. My son inlaw isn't that good at electrical stuff and some of the wiring is getting hot on the stuff he has put in so most likely pull all that out and start over. The back windows blow out when it was on the trailer coming this way.

General Vehicle Related Discussion / P0087 help
« on: October 10, 2021, 09:03:29 PM »
2006 by the VIN it is an LLY but well you know for the most part stock does have a tune but I left it in the tow tune setting, with 380K on it. Pulling a 10X22 box trailer into the wind today up some rolling hills at about 75 deg and got code P0087. Changed out the fuel filters (lift pump and filter head) started driving again and the code came back after clearing the code and started driving again. By looking at my CTS the demand fuel rail pressure was around 22K and actual pressure would jump between 20-22K. I disconnected the trailer and drove the truck home (200 miles at 55-75 MPH) with no check engine light and the demand was mostly 11-13K and so was the demand. I don't see any way to check this with out finding another big trailer and pulling it into the wind so I have no idea how to check to see if I replace anything if it fixed the problem. Any suggestions on what the problem may be and how to check it after I replace what ever part it may be? Also the truck is producing a bunch of smoke. I think that stock filter head has a mist coming out of it. I have tried resealing it and replacing it, I think that the lift pump may be over pressurizing it not sure if that would be the problem or not.

Coffee Induced Early Morning Rant / Dogs
« on: April 06, 2021, 08:44:07 AM »
I am of the school that generally there are no bad dogs just bad dog owners. I also don't buy that there is a "bad" bread. Spent most of my evening helping a friend trying to save two sheep that had been attacked by two dogs. These dogs had already killed other animals and the owners put on notice. After the attack the dogs went home and dog mom gave one a bath and the dog dad took one to another city to hide it out. If you keep dogs that have killed other animals keep the controlled! This hits home because these dogs live the block over from my son and his family, just think that if the dogs had attacked my grandson while he was out riding his bike I would be in jail.

Done venting

General Vehicle Related Discussion / oil pressure
« on: November 06, 2020, 09:21:41 PM »
Let me start off with I haven't gotten under the truck to check connector or wiring. Also there is only 900 miles on the oil.

Yesterday I started up the truck let it warm up to about 80 deg and it had steady oil pressure but when I started driving down the road I noticed the oil pressure started sweeping from about 60 PSI to 8 PSI all at a steady RPM. Pulled over and the oil pressure stayed steady. Started driving again and it started the sweeping again. Once the engine warmed up to 183 deg it stopped the sweeping. Did the same today. The sweeping os on the dash and on my CTS. I think it is wiring or the sending unit itself, but was wondering if there could be anything else?

Cooking equipment / Has anyone used an Orion cooker before
« on: October 09, 2020, 09:28:31 AM »
Looking at getting a new smoker because after about 15 years the old girl got some rust and the door seals don't any more and there was this once when the Oklahoma wind and a basketball goal mugged her. I have been looking and this one kind of has my attention ( https://www.theorioncooker.com/ ) yes it is shiny but to cook a #12 turkey in under 3 hours sound good to me. The only bad thing I have read online is that the smoke flavor is lite. They make 3 sizes and of course I'm looking at the larger of the three.

Has anyone used one of these before? Know anything about them?

What are you building? / Looking at building a shop
« on: August 29, 2020, 11:06:31 AM »
Question: What have you found that after you built a shop what have you wished you had done before the shop was built?

Here is what I'm thinking but I haven't been able to find anyone to prep the pad area:
Starting to look into building a 30X50 with 10' wall shop. May old one is on its last leg. What I have in mind is on one end to have a 30x12 area with full bathroom, kitchen and family/game/man room this area would also have heat and air. The area over this room will be set up for massive amounts of storage of all the stuff the wife thinks she needs to save.  The remaining would be accessed by a double and a single garage door with enough room to work in front of the vehicles.  Will have toolbox and work bench and wood working area in front the vehicles. I'm thinking of a lift in the single area but with only a 10' wall it most likely would have to be a low lift.

Powerplant, Driveline, and Braking / 2006 duramax ABS problem
« on: June 15, 2020, 08:43:53 PM »
last week changed the Right hand half shaft/CV axle, Right hand front caliper and the Pittman arm. Truck drives and stops like it should. After driving about 50 miles the ABS light came on intermittently for about another 50 miles, I pulled over and check the connectors on the right side (the side that most of the work was done) and didn't find anything. When I got home I plugged in my scan tool and it calls out the front left hand speed sensor. I changed that and still have the code. Can anyone tell me how to check the gear inside the hub before I start chasing wires or should  I just change the hub? Any ideas or suggestion would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

General Vehicle Related Discussion / Truck question
« on: April 13, 2020, 09:27:50 PM »
I have a 06 Duramax with 360,000 on it and it is my daily driver 120 mile round trip Monday-Friday. The thing is paid for and has served me well and the main reason I got it was to drive it until I retire and with the Duramax I think that it will do it. I think that I will retire in 2 more years. The wife thinks I need to get a new vehicle but I sure don't like the thought of a truck payment. I have a couple questions for you all:

1) How are the new duramax? Any known problems?

2) Anyone know anything about the little Duramax in the Chevy Colorado?

3) Anyone know anything about the mid size trucks Colorado, Tacoma, Frontier others?

Our Pro-Military, Veteran, and Thin Blue Line place / Son's home coming
« on: November 11, 2019, 09:06:01 PM »
Kind of late but fits in well with today. My son made it back into Oklahoma Friday at 15:30 and the oldest grandson football game was at 19:30 so what started out as a small surprise turned into a large one. When we found that he was going to be home on Friday I made a call to the coach and asked if the son could sneak into the locker room before the game to surprise the grandson. The coach said that he had a better idea that we sneak the sun down on the field and have him hold the tunnel and he could surprise him there, which I said that would be fine. He calls be back the next day and said the school wanted to do a little more. After the teams come out and the huddle up they would announce the son and they would have the grandson run over and welcome him home. Well it worked out great the grandson had no idea and didn't tackle dad on the field. I do have a video but I'm not that good of a cameramen.

you guys may already know this but yesterday I was driving down one of the highways in Oklahoma city and a OHP office passed me on his bike (very fast) and when he got beside me I noticed that he had is M4 on the right rear of the bike. Powerplant, Driveline, and Braking / 2005 Durmax oil pressure issue
« on: October 07, 2019, 09:21:10 PM »
My oldest son (over in the desert right now) has a 2005 duramax that just before he left replaced the oil pump because from time to time the oil pressure would drop to 0-9 PSI with the warning buzzer going of. The cluster and the CTS read the same thing. Well fast forward my grandson is driving it and it did the same thing. What I'm thinking is that the cluster and the CTS are both feed by the same source so I would like to put a mechanical gauge on it to double check.

Here is the question

Where would be the best/easiest place to hook up a mechanical oil pressure gauge to a 2005 LLY duramax? I'm hoping that the grandson will be the muscles  and I be the smarts behind this operation.

Thanks

What are you building? / Whole house water filtration system
« on: September 01, 2019, 03:10:12 PM »
I live in small town USA and to say our city water is ok is being very nice, we get Ozark for drinking and cooking. The town has a awesome water treatment plant, they had gotten a grant and put in a reverse osmosis treatment system. The bad part is that this great water gets put in 100+ year old pipe and yes some of it is still lead! White stay usable for about 6 months after that it is time to get new stuff.

My question is has anyone installed a whole house filtration system? Pros and Cons of the system you installed? Are they worth it? and anything else you may want to give

The last week has been very crazy, emotional roll a coaster. I am fairly health  but a week ago Friday I was told that I had stage 4 kidney failure by 2 doctors got into a specialist who said the same thing he took me off some meds but didn't think it would help. Scheduled me for a biopsy the next day that doctor said that I showed signs of sever kidney problems from the procedure. Go back to the specialist on Friday he said that the biopsy and my blood work was mostly normal, very minor damage to kidneys from high blood pressure. The specialist wanted to take credit for taking me off some meds but I corrected him that he wasn't the Great Physician Jesus is. That my friends is the joy of serving a loving God that listens to our prayers. Sorry I didn't ask for Prayers but my son that is over sea has been talking about joining our forum and I didn't want him to find out before I could tell him.

Stage 4 kidney failure to normal in a week that will make your head spin.

The hottest part of the year and my AC compressor decided to lock up. I replaced the compressor, lines, orifice tube and accumulator and flushed the ever living daylights out of the evaporator and condenser . Well the truck is a 2006 and it looked like everything was original. But my question is I can't find any info on how much refrigerant oil is needed for a 2006 Chevy 2500 with the duramax. The part store said 7.7 ounces but that sounds way to much to me. Any help would be great

Drones, Boats, Flying and Floating Things / A new project
« on: July 21, 2019, 09:19:13 PM »
My daughter brought this boat for me to try and get it running and use able. Her grandfather willed it to her but it sat in a pasture for 5 years before he pasted away and she got the boat. She has cleaned out several mouse nest, leaves and stuff from sitting. The boat is a 1996 Lowe 17' with a 1996 Johnson 50 HP engine. I have found the mice have eaten the wires for the ignition switch, the dash mounted fish finder, rear nav lights and the vacuum line going to the speedometer. Along with both seat hinges broken, the engine will run away and the only way to kill it is pump the primer until you flood the engine(vacuum /air leak some place), and there is a parasitic drain on the main battery.  I'm sure more to come with questions because I have never worked on a boat before.

Coffee Induced Early Morning Rant / What has happen to this country?
« on: June 21, 2019, 09:43:57 PM »
I maybe preaching to the choir but this is CIEMR!

When to Mount Rushmore night lighting and the asked everyone to sing the National Anthem witch I learned in grade school and out of about 500 people I thing about 50 people sang the the others stood silently or talked to each other. Now in all fairness I would say 100-150 weren't from the USA so 20 out of 350 people knew OUR ANTHEM! and out of those 50 I would say 30 were military or Boy Scouts. I think this country that I spent 24 years serving has little hope unless we have a event that instills God and National pride to the core of the younger generation. Rant off !!!

Just in case anyone doesn't know the National Anthem here are the words:

Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
‘Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust.”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Don's trip planning and our recent trip to I had an idea and wondered if anyone has done this before and give some advice. The wife and I just returned from Yellowstone as we drove around and looked at the wonders that God created with no CELL SERVICE and other people not respecting and taking care of this wonders place, I asked one of the Rangers if they had a program where people could volunteer to help maintain the National parks. They directed me to this site https://www.nps.gov/getinvolved/volunteer.htm (ok how do you post a link?) or told be to contact and ranger station. The idea was to take my to grandsons and son to one of the National parks work hard all day, sleep in a tent and have them work on their survival skills that I have passed along to them.

That is the idea so here is the question has anyone done any of this type of volunteer work?

The Men We Desperately Need Today
June 7, 2019
Not Safe, But Good

Article by

I can still remember being startled by the thought: Jesus doesn’t seem very nice.

Unquestionably compassionate, gracious, and patient, Jesus also said and did things that, as I read through Mark, surprised me. The kind of things that today would get him trolled on Twitter and flagged on Facebook.

It was then that I began to think that if Jesus was not “nice,” if he — the one to whom all Christian women also look (2 Corinthians 3:18), and yet, the epitome of a godly man — did not fit within my vision for manhood, then it, not he, needed to change. The more I considered him — the more I considered the long lineage of godly men in the Scriptures — the more I stood confronted: Could these fit within my current conceptions of masculinity?

What about your conception? When you consider a good Christian husband, an upstanding churchman, a godly man, what qualities come to mind?

Traits such as generous, thoughtful, agreeable? Is this man slow to impose, quick to listen, ready to sympathize? Does he speak gently and serve graciously? Does he routinely defer to others’ preferences? Something about this ideal seems unquestionably right — but if this tender side is all, it also should strike us as uncomfortably wrong.

Godly men will indeed emanate compassion, humility, service, and love. This is true. But is this the whole truth? Has the ideal of manhood in the modern church become just a gentle shadow of what God made it to be?

Not Safe, but Good
When we teach about masculinity, do qualities like strength, initiative, zeal, and courage make our list? When we assess men for church office, and when we look for small group leaders and godly mentors, do we commend men who would make good shepherds — industrious, passionate, resilient men, able to corral sheep and willing to combat wolves?

Do we celebrate male strength, courage, zeal, and initiative because we know these are required in order to guard, protect, subdue, and lead? Such men of God who are gentle exactly because they are first strong? Men like Gandalf, who, after exuding his strength of presence, could then softly say to Bilbo, “I am not trying to rob you. I am trying to help you.” A tiger, not a kitten, can exhibit gentleness because he is first strong.

Endangered is that species of lionhearted masculinity that bears Aslan’s description: “not safe, but good.” Our present ideals, like the ones I once held, do not require goodness to make men safe, because they ensure that men are safe regardless of goodness. The man reborn in this image says nothing uncomfortable, rallies no charge, and shows little, if any, initiative. He is goaded to be convictionless, passionless, perhaps even Christless, if but subdued.

But such is not the vision of he who made man. Instead of blunting his sharp edges, God has a different solution for creating good men: rebirth, looking to Christ, and training in righteousness. Godliness must balance his natural perils. He achieves mature manhood through adding the fruit of the Spirit, not subtracting his God-designed nature. Kindness, self-control, compassion flavor his strength, courage, determination — not eclipse them.

Where Have the Men Gone?
Such men — gentle and strong — present a paradox to the world. His hands build up his household, wrestle with his boys, sip tea with his daughters, and grip the hilt of his Sword against the agents of darkness (Ephesians 6:10–20). He is a godly warrior who sleeps in his armor — fierce and meek and good wherever he finds himself. The description can, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, be redeemed: “Thou wert the meekest man that ever ate in hall among ladies; and thou wert the sternest knight to thy mortal foe that ever put spear in the rest” (Le Morte D’Arthur).

We err when we divide the two: brutal on the one hand, soft on the other. While our society increasingly chooses the latter, some wonder: Where have all the men gone?

We can read, as of an alien species, about men who “through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight” (Hebrews 11:33–34). Men who actively sought for glory, honor, and immortality. Men of faith who hoped for a better country than the one they had. Men who risked much, lost much, and gained more. Men who lived by faith in the living God.

Lukewarm religion, let’s never forget, makes for lukewarm masculinity. And lukewarm masculinity allows too many men to pass by church doors in favor of Islam, Jordan Peterson, or simply ESPN on the road to destruction.

Dying Flame of Masculinity
As I surveyed the lineage of godly men, I honestly wondered how many saints of old would feel discomfort with the feminization, not only of our society, but also in some of our churches.

Would we emasculate men of old? Would we not chide Abraham for wandering, Jacob for wrestling, Joshua for fighting, Elijah for mocking, Noah for madness, Job for arrogance, Daniel for incivility, Nehemiah for violence, Nathan for high-handedness, John the Baptist for name-calling, Paul for divisiveness, and the Son of God for brandishing a whip and turning over tables in the temple?

Have we chosen the conveniences of niceness over the discomforts of godliness? I fear someday lying comfortably beneath the inscription, “Here lies a father, husband, churchgoer — just a really nice guy.”

“Nice” says nothing of spine, of edge, of valor, and thus it can say little of righteousness or purpose. Nice requires no courage, no conviction, and no willingness to make enemies with the wicked. Jesus warns against such palatability: “Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets” (Luke 6:26).

Now, we may be tempted, where we have swerved off the road, to overcorrect the error. This would lead us into the other ditch of parasitic strength. Such abominations endure in our day, in all their cruelty, abuse, and cowardice. We must not exchange “good, but not strong” for “strong, but not good.” We cannot charge forth in the flesh instead of being led by the Spirit. We must not settle with feeling like men in our own strength; we must become better men through divine power and self-sacrifice.

Men Set Ablaze
One step on the road to recovery is to reemphasize that unnerving trait of many men of old: godly jealousy. We must reclaim the pulse and convictions of a godly man, not just his actions.

Our God is a jealous God (Exodus 20:5). He will not share his glory, or bride, with another. And he fashions men who increasingly burn with his own righteous jealousy. These men, ablaze with zeal for the glory of God, for the health of the church, and for the souls of the lost, will, in certain circumstances, erupt to shatter the status quo. Zeal for the glory of God — not cultural civility or secular sensitivity — is the proper harness for biblical manhood. Godly jealousy makes good men dangerous — to the world, the flesh, and the devil.

Consider Moses, the meekest man on the earth (Numbers 12:3). Enraged by his people’s idolatry to break God’s tablets, he melted their golden calf, and made them drink it (Exodus 32:20). His love for his people and God’s glory acted resolutely against their idolatry.

Consider David, the poetry-writing shepherd-boy who could not simply stand by and watch an uncircumcised Philistine defy the armies of the living God — no matter how menacing he stood (1 Samuel 17:26). He could not listen quietly while his God’s name was defamed.

Consider Phinehas, an African whose name meant “the Negro.” Jealous with God’s jealousy, he turned away God’s wrath by impaling two high-handed sinners in the climax of their romance (Numbers 25:6–13).

Consider Elijah, a man tormented by the unbelief of Israel. He called a public showdown with the prophets of Baal and mocked them for hours (1 Kings 18:20–40). He longed for the people to know the true God and follow him alone.

Consider Paul, a former persecutor of the church who sat provoked as he saw the city full of idol-worship instead of Jesus-worship, and publicly lifted up his voice to challenge the great philosophers and rulers of Athens (Acts 17:16). He lived for kingdom business while many laughed at, opposed, and beat him.

All the King’s Men
Consider Jesus Christ, who grabbed whips, named names, and promised to return with weapons drawn. He is the Lion of Judah who knelt down and played with children (Mark 10:14). And the Lamb from whom men shall run, unsuccessfully begging mountains to crush them rather than face his wrath (Revelation 6:16).

He destroyed “arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God” (2 Corinthians 10:5), crushed the dragon’s skull, and yet did not break a bruised reed (Isaiah 42:3). And he went to Calvary, not because niceness led him outside the camp to die among thieves and garbage, but because he burned with a passion for his bride, his Father’s name, and his own glory (John 17:4; Romans 3:25–26; 1 Peter 3:18).

Spurgeon’s last words in the pulpit portray the proper ideal:

[Jesus] is the most magnanimous of captains. There never was his like among the choicest of princes. He is always to be found in the thickest part of the battle. When the wind blows cold he always takes the bleak side of the hill. The heaviest end of the cross lies ever on his shoulders. If he bids us carry a burden, he carries it also. If there is anything that is gracious, generous, kind, and tender, yes lavish and super abundant in love, you always find it in him. (Spurgeon: Prince of Preachers, 288)

The King’s men will be found, with Christ, in the thickest parts of the battle. They will eschew wasting their lives venturing nothing, growing warm for nothing, exercising no initiative, taking no stands, building no fortitude of faith, engaging in no spiritual battle, carrying no burdens, planting no flags on unconquered hilltops. The men of this King, for the very reason that they despise playing with foam swords against the forces of evil, create the safest culture for their women and children. Dangerous men under God, holding one another accountable, will not stand idly by as the bears maul those they should rather protect and nourish.

Meek and fierce. Tough and tender. Leaders and servants. Not safe, but good.

Men like Jesus.

Just a reminder Military spouse day is this coming Friday 10 May

The day is celebrated annually and is also known as Military Spouse Appreciation Day. President Ronald Reagan declared this day in 1984 in order to recognize the importance of spouse commitment to the well-being of military members. The day was first observed on May 23, 1984.

Making of a Military Wife
Submitted By: MilitaryMomma

When the good Lord was creating Wives, he was into his sixth day of overtime.

An angel appeared and said, "You're having a lot of trouble with this one. What's wrong with the standard model?"

And the Lord replied, "Have you seen the specs on this order? She has to be completely independent, but must be sponsored to get on post; have the qualities of both father and mother during deployments; be a perfect hostess to 4 or 40; run on black coffee; handle emergencies without a manual; be able to handle flu, birthdays and moves around the world; have a kiss that can cure anything from a child's torn Valentine to a husband's weary day; have the patience of a saint when waiting for the Unit to return home; and have six pairs of hands."

The angel shook her hand slowly and said, "Six pairs of hands... no way!"

And the Lord answered, "Don't worry, we'll make other military wives to help. Besides it's not the hands that are causing the problem, it's the heart. It must swell with pride in her husband, sustain the ache of separations, beat on soundly when it's too tired to do so and be large enough to say, "I Understand" when she doesn't, and 'I love you' regardless."

"Lord," said the angel, touching his sleeve gently. "Come to bed... finish this tomorrow!"

"I can't," said the Lord. "I'm so close to creating something unique. Already I have one who heals herself when she's sick, can feed three unexpected guests who are stuck in the area due to bad weather, and can wave good-bye to her husband, from a pier, off a runway and understand that it is important to his country that he leaves."

The angel circled the model of the military wife very slowly. "It's too soft," she sighed.

"But tough," said the Lord excitedly. "You cannot imagine what this woman can do or endure."

"Can it think?"

"Can it think? It can convert 1400 to 2 p.m."

Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek. "There's a leak," she pronounced. "I told you that you were trying to put too much into this model."

"It's not a leak," said the Lord. "It's a tear."

"What's it for?" asked the angel.

"It's for joy. Sadness. Disappointment. Pain, loneliness and pride!"

"You are a genius," sighed the angel.

The Lord looked somber and replied, "I didn't put it there."

Faith Discussion / 1 Kings 10:14

During my weekly men Bible study we studied 1 Kings 10:14 most of the newer formats of the bible say that Solomon received 25 tons of gold but if you look in the notes or the older version it say 666 talents of gold.

1) I'm not saying that Solomon is the Antichrist because of Revelation
2) I don't believe in coincidence
3) I understand that one is a number and the other is a value of letter in a name

Has anyone have any connection between the 2 or am I trying to connect 2 nuts with out a threaded rod?

I have been told that "where the Bible doesn't explain, it behooves man to not try on his own".

Proud stepdad moment. After Bret was killed in Afghanistan his sister Krysten took to run to find peace and help her focus on talking to GOD and help remember the good times with her brother. Over the years she has gone from 5K up to marathons and is puts on a 5K in her brother memory to raise money for a scholarship in his name. She has even hooked up with and organization called "Wear Blue run to Remember" that supports Gold star families. This last weekend she went to New Mexico with several members of the 45 Infantry Division and ran the  the Bataan Death March Marathon beating all the 45 members by 20 minutes and finishing 11th in her age group. Which all in all is something to be proud of in my book. My wife's family had a member that survived the Bataan Death March but passed many years ago but on Saturday Krysten spent some time talking with and listening to one of the few if not the only survivors still with us James Bollich. She was very humbled by the experience and wish she could have brought him home and took him to let her 3rd grade students listen to him.  The younger guy in the photo is a Major with the 45th signed up Krysten and told her later. The 45th has taken Krysten under their wing after lost Bret.

D.O.T. / Televsion options

We currently have Direct TV and am tired of paying $150 a month for television service. We mainly watch local news, college sports and follow the Cincinnati Reds so we are kind of thinking of going with a digital Antenna and get the live stream Hulu. What options are you using?

Faith Discussion / 1 Samuel 28

I'm a discussion group leader for Bible Study Fellowship and this year we are studying People of the Promise Land Part 1 and last week we had a spirited discussion and wanted to see what your men of GOD think. In 1 Samuel 28 when Saul went to the medium was it in fact Samuel that the medium and Saul saw and spoke to or was it a evil spirit?

We had basically 2 camps.

1) It was a evil spirt using Samuel words.
2) God allowed Samuel to be called back to give Saul one last chance to repent.

What do you think do you have something we didn't think of?

The town that he grew up in Seminole Oklahoma has done many things to honor his memory and I just wanted to share. My step daughter Krysten wanted to do something to honor her brother and to keep him alive in people memorries and to remind them that freedom is not free. Brett loved to run which he did a lot. One New Year eve he and his Frat brother ran a relay from Seminole to Ada (30 miles) oh and it was about 15 deg outside all because someone said they couldn't do it. After the 1st year with out him Krysten took up running is started off with running around town but each run got longer and longer, she now has 5 marathons, 3 half and several 5K under her belt. She feels that Brett along with the Holy Spirt talks to her on these runs and gives her directions for her like along with great comfort. She and Brett had one of the best relationship that I have ever seen between a brother and sister. Well on one of these runs she got the idea of starting a 5 K run and the money would go to set up a scholarship  in Brett's name at the high school that they both graduated from. This plan started in Dec and she wanted the run to be the weekend before Memorial day! I'm here to tell you that she pulled it off, she got the city to block off roads that the runners would be on, a promotion company with timer so that it is a qualifing race for marathoners, sponsers, T shirts and medals. Never underestimate the drive of a young lady that loved her brother.

Faith Discussion / a GOD thing

Because sometime we just need to hear a good story.
Earlier this week a young man that had been in our church from the time he was conceived now he is married and has 2 kids of his own. He hadn't been feeling well for a few months so he went to a doctor and they did and MRI and told him that it looked like pancreatic cancer and scheduled him to see an oncologist on Friday, by the way he has had 2 family members I know of that have died of pancreatic cancer. Getting into see a specialist with in a week is kind of rare I think. There had been many Prayers said for him, well he gets to see the oncolgist on Friday and after all the test the doctor ask him if he believes in miracle and he said yes! The doctor said you should, "I don't know what your people did but there is no sign of cancer like the test showed from you doctor"

Praise God!

Growing up my grandfather had a several diffrent guns but the one I loved was his Winchester 1886 which my cousin got after he passed and sold for drug money some years later  Well when Winchester said they would make a reproduction of it I went to my LGS and placed one on order. Winchester was some what off on when they would be produced, I waited 2 1/2 years but it did come in. I don't like waiting! Took it out and shot 20 round of 45 70 now my right shoulder is black, blue and red but was total worth the wait. I guess that steel butt plate and 45 70 round was made for someone with no feeling in their shoulder or back in the day those guys shoulders could take a bunch more pounding
