We have always done real well at bring down spot on, even when we didn't have a barge to land them on.  we will be re-flying one of the ones we have brought back later this year, but the big news is going to be the Falcon Heavy at the end of this year, along with the Crew Dragon and Red Dragon lots going on guys!!!!!!

I'm going to pretend that I'm smart, and that I'm Phil for a moment....a famous rocket scientist.

If we take the distance to Mars which is 34,000,000 miles (rounding numbers here) and divide that by the speed of the craft in the video, of 63,000mph, we come up with roughly 540 hrs, divided by 24 hrs in a day, and we come up with approximately 24 1/2 days travel time. ya might wanna take something to read :)

Well, you are not taking into account a few things.  First it will take a little time to accelerate to 63000mph. And then a little ways out you have to start braking so you don't go flying past your target.  Lastly there is this thing called orbital mechanics, so every two years we are closest to Mars so in ideal conditions 80 to 90 days.  And remember this is if you are burning fuel the whole way otherwise it's a nice 9 month journey!!!

Ken, I'd give you a rocket scientist badge for a day, that's some pretty good thinkings!

9 months just drifting! Oh man that would be a long trip. Sure is fascinating none the less. Guess I'm in the wrong field of work, considering once this gets rolling there is going to be a need for many different fields of study to be employed.

I was taking note of that 63,000mph number

We accelerate things to what, 18,000 mph for orbit and 25,000 mph to escape orbit???

63K is a much higher number...So I was wondering how exactly we did that without having to build a rocket a thousand feet tall and half a mile in diameter just to carry all the fuel.

I think in 2008 the earth passed within 34,000,000 miles of Mars, but that won't happen again for a long time. Typically the distances are much greater, meaning more time. I always thought travel time was around 9 months give or take for one way to the red planet...

Hopefully with the new Admin we will see more of this. Things like this is why we have such a great country, the people step in to a job that needs to be done regardless of being dragged down by the last 8 years.

Phil is a bit of a mystery to me

The same guy shoots expensive stuff into orbit, then lands part of it back on the very launch pad from which it departed...Also messes with 18th century Dodge Ramchargers with steam engines.

I just don't see the connection. Unless its related to the principal that neither should actually work???

Not much mystery with me, just a semi-educated red neck that made it thru the third grade.  I try to never forget how far we have come with technology and always try to learn from the failures.

Someday I might have to go back to pulling a plow with a horse, but I need to remember/know how to make the iron/steel/bronze to make the plow.

As a society we can regress real fast and so much basic knowledge is not taught now, I’m not one of the doom and gloom people but I try  to be prepared.
