Harlan county, Kentucky
Folks that come from down there are hard folks
I think this show captures it pretty well
Great scene from one of the installments:

As someone whom spent significant time over the course of several years down there helping the local KY Mountain Crawlers establish Black Mountain Off Road Park I can tell you they are indeed cut from a different cloth. Those Appalachian coal mining people are no joke.

X2
Hard people
And no respecters of the law, nor your snowflake opinion that "everyone has a right to feel safe."
You get out of line down there and you disappear.
and
They all stick together
and keep to themselves
If you weren't born there you're an outsider
My boy's doctor is from there.
He's no joke either
My farm is not far from that area. Luckily, we have a couple of counties-wide area of Amish and Mennonites to shield us.
Church deacon who also carries an AR!

Yup and the civil war was never won. They are a very generous people for those outsiders that get on their good side. However, I was still a yankee in their eyes. They even wanted to give me a several thousand sq ft manufacturing building if I relocated my business there. They were willing to use economic development funds to do so. Logistically it just didn’t work out on paper even with a free building.

Surprised you didn't take them up on that offer, S. They seem like your kind of people. and, we would have nearly been neighbors.

So at the time GLO was killing it, we were buying ground at auction and developing it into 5-10 acre home lots. I had just gambled three properties to buy the farm, crazy but right before 08 recession. Then in addition to good day job and wife was in school for first degree. Three young kids you get the idea.
If you’ve been to Harlan you realize there is no good way in or out. They have a multi million dollar “bridge to nowhere” that ups built at one point to put in an airport terminal on a mountain top that they ended up walking away from. So lots of logistical red flags. Add in the above and I couldn’t gamble the move there even with a free building.
Very much my type of people, kind of like the ones where I’m at now. Very proud and most aren’t afraid of hard work.

Something next for us anyhow.
I seem to like the way this is…

In coming episodes he gets back to his native Harlan county where the character comes fully into his own.

x2! The characters in this show are great. It's like a modern-day Deadwood.

It was a HULU original, so there, certainly. In my view Netflix, Prime, and HULU are barely good, maybe just adequate. Or maybe I spend too much time watching TV!

You still have to buy it on Prime, errrrr.
