I liked the part about Don rolling the orange jeep.  Ground hog my arse!
Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

I was relaying the tank training stories to a guy that works for me who was a captain in the armored cav commanding a tank in desert storm.  He spit tea out his nose at lunch today.... "you mean he swept the back of the tank with the laser, right?"....umm no. 30 cal.  Pffftt! out the tea came...

Yep, that's all true. Was shortly before they issued us the new (at the time) M240's
We were shooting an ancient Coax called a M219. It's design later let to SFC Kol.... getting shot. I don't think I wrote about that in Distant Thunder, but is in the second book (unpublished)

You slap the feed tray cover, and sometimes it just started shooting!

I take it guys these days don't use "Back Scratching??"

Tell him I did it on the far end of the basic driving range at Knox, he'll know the place. I was going down the far hill not far from the dump, well what was the dump in those days.

The back scratching happened near Steel Tank Gunnery Range on Knox as well. He will have fired from that range as well in his initial training
