That's a good idea.

I was trying to make out if it has some sort of rubberized, or felt like cover to protect the bore and keep it from sounding like a cow bell?

I was reading his posts, and I guess he's working on having a site by the end of the week. I'm just trying to figure out how to copy his work, on the new mill.

Actually Ken, I was thinking along the same lines. Except make it muy better. I don't like how his trigger is exposed....... I'm clumsy & somehow I would shoot my foot but instead of hitting my foot with that rod in there would possibly lead to catastrophic failure. After thinking about it I think it can be upgraded for what I want & I don't need to use the rod. But I'm a glock guy so what I'm thinking might not work for those "old" 1911 shooting guys like Ken. This guy also needs to think about liability which he has not...... Sorry for wild goose chase Nate.

I could see that an accidental discharge would be BAD with a rod in there...
... it would still be bad without a rod shoved up the barrel!

I run the xdm and it has a small pic rail section under the barrel. That could be used as a sliding attachment point.

Interesting concept on his mount. I'm not crazy with it relying on gravity to hold your pistol in place though. What happens if, God forbid, you have a vehicle roll-over? Then that pistol may turn into a projectile bouncing around the cab, not to mention being unable to find it once the world stops flopping around. With most of my vehicles seeing some off-road use, I'm not liking it. I think you could probably add something that "pinches" and covers the trigger guard, rather than just having a rod in the barrel. My $0.02.

It has a detent that keeps the barrel snug to the rod, but not sure how tight it is....probably not rollover proof I would guess.

I still like my serpa attached under the steering wheel. Requires a press of the lever to release.  It goes from my holster to under the wheel and then back to my holster when I get out. Keep me from having to draw with the right while releasing the seat belt with my left in the event of an incident

I agree with both HC & TRN, I don't want it on my hip in a vehicle normally. They rub me wrong & I ain't jumping out to chase bad guys like HC but may go into a school etc where I can't wear it but like it in my truck. I think the mount is unsafe. Now with all that said I'm still waiting on HC's rant! ;D

There are just too many variables to consider when you have multiple locations for your primary weapon. Even if that multiple is only two. IS it on my person or under my dash.

Lets say you have failed yourself. Mama ran into the post office real quick to pick up the tax refund and her door is unlocked. You are driving and some opportunistic mope has decided to capitalize on your lapse in judgment and hops in the passengers seat with a gun to your noggin and you are immediately in a position of tactical withdrawal. Are you willing to send him on his merry with your pickup and your firearm? That is just one scenario of many where a lapse in judgment could find you at a disadvantage and subsequently disarmed.

I have a few more scenarios, but have to put the girls down... be back shortly...

As far as the seat belt goes TRN, I disengage the seat belt stronghanded, draw on my way up and sweep the belt away with my support hand. That is the way I was taught, I teach and train to do every time.

One of the most dangerous events most concealed carriers will ever find themselves involved in is holstering their weapon. More of us shoot ourselves than get shot by degenerates. Granted the majority of holstering ND's are due to mistakes the shooter made when he purchased crappy equipment but nonetheless it's sad but true. When things become routine we get sloppy. One of the least routine things I do outside of a training environment is to re-holster my firearm. And when I do re-holster, I want to be able to own and control the safest spot possible to do so. I don't find a scenario where that would be safest while seated in the car. There are too many obstacles to hinder a safe concealment.

There are too many occurrences where a guy could simply forget to grab his gun when you are just dismounting for a brief period as you would to check the mail box or pump fuel. So either A, the gun is in your unsecured vehicle just out of arms reach or B, you have conditioned yourself to routinely holster and unholster every time you are just out of reach of the weapon which is simply not practical and lends itself to the aforementioned issue. Heaven forbid you "forget" and reach for that empty gun bucket on your hip only to come out with a finger gun when you are presented with an immediate threat to your life.

Valid arguments HC, I try really hard not to be a target & "that" is the biggest take away I just received from your comment. Second being in practice with whatever setup you have. With that said things can happen as we all know & your comments were all directed towards the unknown what if scenarios. I for one appreciate them as it gets me thinking outside the box I live in. Last, I think if I were an officer such as yourself my carry habits would indeed change and more align with what you have stated. Currently my primary is carried only 25-30% of the time. I know it should be more but it's an honest assessment currently. With my secondary boot gun & knife carried 90-100%.

If I disarm myself for any reason in the car, which is very rare. I can think of only a few places where I don't carry. I pull my holster, gun still inserted and put it all in my locking center console. It's a lot easier for me to remember I am unarmed when I don't have that holster as a stimulus pressing in to my hip.

We all operate on systems of practice and the least variables you place within your systems, the least chances for a lapse in judgement or inability to quickly decide under stress.

For example, when I pour myself a bowl of lucky charms I sit and stare at the spoons for maybe a second processing whether I want my normal large spoon or the more reasonable standard sized spoon. I have to decide, first, will that spoon still fit in my mouth comfortably when heaped with gmo's and marshmallow goodness. Second, what will the perception of others be should they catch me with my large sized man spoon. And third, why am I even bothered by this, my cereal is getting soggy? So I fish my man spoon out and settle down for chow.

This process only takes a second like I said, but the disadvantage is, while I take that precious second more milk, seeps in to the yummy morsels and they begin to degrade and lack in crunch.

My gun on the other hand is always the same and it's right there on my hip ready to go when it gets a little huckleberry

See I always go for the small spoons, short women (wife is 5' nothin) & small vehicles as I prefer my old 2 door to the 4 door Jeep I have currently. Guess at 6'3" I'm trying to under compensate if there is such a thing? And after being a concealed carry holder for twenty years, never drawing & hoping to stay that way if possible......

My day typically consists of a lot of places I can't carry it or isn't needed. Kids schools, post office & my home office or garage. Again if I could carry in a couple more of these places such as yourself I would do so more I believe.

Now if we're (wife & I) going for groceries or dinner or these upscale dinners & banquets I always carry unless they are hosted at a place such as the court house which makes it a long walk back to the car by myself to disarm.....

I carry at home. I live in a great neighborhood outside of my jurisdiction but I would hazard you from ever establishing a mindset of it not being needed brother. I also want people to understand that in a lot of no gun zones, the worse they can do is ask you to leave. (Check your local ordinances)

I do not condone civil disobedience but I hope we all carry in a manner in which no one else is the wiser. My wife didn't even realize I always carried until we had been dating for a year!

I am also sorry some of you live in states where you can't carry into a school.   I can carry in schools of all ages, most churches and hospitals and of course the gov buildings are off limits

You didn't Dave, see post several up from yours where I detailed what I didn't like about the rod unit. You & Don both had similar thoughts I believe to what I am thinking. With that said if/when I start producing something it will be available to "friends" at a discount. I always tended in the past to need feedback on any prototypes. I think anyone here who I dealt with while I owned GLO can attest to the fact I treated them more than fair.

Appreciate the perspective.  Since I can't carry at work and wear a suit most days I need it at the ready and I don't carry on person when wearing a suit unless its my little LCP pea shooter in my jacket pocket.

That's one of the reasons I've trained to always put it in the holster under the steering wheel.  If I let someone sneak up on me, then I get what I deserve.

why don't we just keep it on our belt?? I really don't want to rant on this, though I would like to... These are novelty items in my opinion. not to mention unsafe

I agree with you, HC. I always keep it on my belt, unless entering a "forbidden zone", then it and holster go to the hidey hole in the truck. Your "what ifs" were spot on!
