I made out with my grading engineering. With Topo of all 52 acres, redo of the pad location, it was $3500. Permit should be under $500, so $4k just to cut a road!

This is in the country too, hope it changes a little.

I'm still amazed by that price. Here in Northern Virginia it would have been close to $20K-25k for topo and another $5k for the grading plan. Do you know how they did the survey? By conventional survey (boots on the ground) or flown? We have starting using a drone here.

$1700 for a strucutral engineer to spec a beam seems high but i dont know where you live. We are so busy here we put ridiculous numbers on small jobs hoping they go away or we make some good money.

Open ground and they used a drone. Pretty cool really. Now have a 1ft topo of the entire property.

Lots of room to expand where I am building now. Looking at log home kits. Anyone here ever look into them?

Not seriously JR.  I'd seriously consider a seacan house.  Several designs online.  You already have the plasma.
Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

I've thought about a lot, would be EMP proof! I want around 1500sf, that's about 4.5 cans. For around 90k I get something like this;

https://www.coventryloghomes.com/ourDesigns/craftsmanStyle/Killington/model.html

They are engineered and prices are better than they show. Plus I like the look.

Got to go play in the mud yesterday,   Buddies moms house up at bear lake had a broken stand pipe we thought.   Way wrong

We had a muddy hill to wrk below, a rock wall caved in on us three times. Once with both of us in the trench, once trapping us both by our legs with big rocks and a third time just for the hell of it I guess
We survived with minor bumps but we ignored good judgment many times

Also seen the after math of a dump truck losing it brakes into town

So you almost died, buried in a trench that didn't need to be dug, in a yard that didn't need to be destroyed?
Did you find the problem?

The faucet was not the issue, it was the main off valve in front of the second main off valve that was cracked out at the bottom and gushing water,   We had a trench dug, moved the rocks but the longer we had it open the wall kept fallin in on us, the city guy couldn’t even turn off his valve either so we replaced his also,  it took a faucet stand pipe replacement form two hours to eight.  Waist deep muck.  It was bad deal all the way around

My goodness the heat is killin me this summer.
Finally got all the clear coat sanded off and found some body work had been done before. For the life of me I can't see where this was done after the original factory paint job.
Should've just sandblasted the darn thing.

Got it down that far Ken might as well mod that hood with some fancy sheet metal work. Make it stay cool a little easier under the hood while you’re at it. My 2 cents...

Just where the super hard clear sanded through first, then the base of Brick red, then white primer, red again, then a green , maybe etching primer or sealer, sanded off fast.
I was supposed to spray some white sealer today but the humidity and dust was too high.

Small update. Wow am I bored.
10 pounds for 6-8 weeks. Doesn’t leave me much to do.
Sitting at cabin with mom and dad now for the week.
Boss is back to work now.

I’m doing great. Too great. So my parents are here to keep me in check. Lol.
Two more weeks till I get back to work. Ugg.

I just don't want to wind up missing a digit or limb.  I can sometimes get in a hurry to get results.

Been plenty busy lately. My back has been messed up for 15 years or more so I went to a medical Dr instead of chiropractor this time. Just as I figured he gave me some pills. Prescription strength aleve basically.
The boys first Cub scout meeting today. Jasper is really excited about being in this year with his big brother.
Over the weekend I put in a patio at the river by our camper. I was talking it easy not to aggravate my back. Luckily one of my older boys and his friend showed up and took over. Didn't do too bad a job. Ran short of pavers but it's good for now.

Ken, what the heck are these rubber things. Found one in the door of my daughters 2001 camry and another in the new lock mech box. Her door won't stay locked, but it all works otherwise. Do they work as a spring?

Think they are some type spring or return stop. As I said, it locks but won't stay locked, like a spring or stop is missing.

Rented a boom to trim the tree in front. Massive thing with itty bitty leaves, a pain when they fall and it always takes weeks.

I trim it about every 2 years, that is now. 45ft, plus my 6, plus a poll saw goes 8 and I still can't reach everything. Much of that is it needs 12x16 to steady itself and my yard has a stone border around the tree. A pain to move as the sxs is not running, looks the TPS went out, so resorting to tow straps and winches. Then a tire went flat and tore up the yard. Still is working great but noy do I have cleaning to do.

Been working way to much. Realized when talking with the recruitment office at work that I haven't taken a vacation this year, except for 2 days for appts, so now I have to find ways to burn 17 days of vacation before December when my boss takes her vacation, all this in addition to travelling to audit other plants, having my location audited, travelling for personal training and conducting training as per my job description.

On the plus side I got my hoodie made of poncho liner material, it's my new favorite lounge wear.

Guy in half ton Silverado races tri-axle dump truck loaded with sand through an intersection and loses the race. Occupying the same space at the same time is a problem so dump truck folds Silverado in half around a steel pole, turns onto its side and slides both into and in to a shuttle bus. It happened less than a mile from the station so luckily we could get there quick. Seven patients total, once critical, one entrapped plus 5 hours of hazmat work to keep the various fluids out of the storm drains. Quite a mess.

The critical patient was sitting in one of the chairs that is folded up under the bumper of the dump truck and is lucky to be alive. The seats face inward so he may have never seen the truck coming. On a positive note, there were a bunch of bystanders already holding pressure on wounds and treating people as best as they could when we arrived. One thing that sticks out in my mind was the diversity of the people rendering aid to the injured. Men and women, black, white, and a few shades in between were all doing their level best for total strangers without regard to race, gender, politics or any of that non essential crap the news wants us to believe everyone cares about these days. There’s still a shred of hope for humanity.
