So originally I had an appointment on the 31 of July in Tucson, to get a rear window installed. Could have drove it up then, but wanted to attend to a few other items before doing so.

That being said I rescheduled for today 2 August...

Left the house at 0830, and with only a few hiccups (blown IC boot) we made it only a little late to the appointment. So now I wait to get the last piece of glass installed, then hopefully we can take it into Sierra vista and get the AC charged, cause it’s hot!

Pre rear glass after a my road made a mess of the back.

No real update other than we’re just working out the bugs. Need to properly wire a switch for over drive, or buy the HGM computer.

Got the dash ready for radio install.

Made a panel to hold the vintage air thermostat.

Still looking for a bed, found a couple usable at junkyard but haven’t had the cash to purchase one yet. We’re getting there though.

Current plan is to take this truck and the fam from here to Arkansas down to Fort Lauderdale Florida and back next month. Move stuff for mother in-law, sadly re home our pups, possibly pickup some stuff and maybe deliver some more stuff along the way.

Second trip to Tucson resulted in a win.... albeit an painfully slow one because the first piece of glass they tried today (second overall) was cut too small. So three hours later we had this!

AC is charged and blows cold, but the compressor is doing this weird on/off cycling thing. Going to check the ground again. Then try something else if it doesn’t stop.

Hydro boost problem is still very present, or what we think is a hydro boost problem.

Was the closest hole to bolt it to.... it just so happened to turn it vertical. Breather doesn’t work worth a darn though so you have to pull it out of the top of the tank when filling it.

Noted put Sonora plates on before going into commifornia. Our shipping port is San Diego, so the truck has to go there.

You know the whole thing, work begat work.... well....

We needed this

To move this

And we’re moving the Connex box down the road next Sunday as well, so we need goose for that.

Also had a body man align the doors. Put in new drag link. Taking it in to town this evening to try and figure out AC compressor issue.

Got a full set of seat belts on the way, 4 shoulder belts and two lap belts. Getting down to the wire, we’re on the road with this thing on the 13..... AR, GA, FL, TX, a giant circle.

You braver man than I am driving it across the USA with very little shakedown.

It’ll be ok. By the time we leave I’ll 500 miles or better on it.

And we don’t really have any other option. 3 humans, 250lbs of dog, gear for the trip, and a reasonable load of stuff to talk to in-laws house in Orlando.

The humans and dogs basically put the tacoMa beyond max space available. Let alone all the other stuff. The items to go to in-laws house won’t fit in Ramcharger. So it’s either use what we built, or rent something for 17 days, I’d say if money wasn’t really an issue yea renting would be better. But I guess why build something if you can’t use it?

If I can squeeze the time, maybe I’ll make a shakedown run in your direction?

Several little things today, but only one pic.

Installed the four vent louvres and ducting. Now to get someone to figure out the compressor issue.

Got the wipers working. Put knobs on thermostat, wired trailer plug, working on trailer brake controller.

To answer your question, it is on the drivers fender. The black box.

To expand, we re wired the entire truck. Started with an American autowire extreme duty kit. swbhobie, did the major stuff and I have been expanding on it since he got it initially wired.  I’m glad i chose to just rewire from scratch rather than try to use the two harness and piece it together. It went together well, and looks good.

Sure trying to! But, if we can’t in the Dodge we put everybody in the TacoMa to see if we all fit, will be uncomfortable to Arkansas, but we’ll manage if we have to.

Bummer Turner.  What were the symptoms?

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Charles, it was stalling out at stop lights, stop signs, general stopping in drive, and in reverse. At first it seemed exacerbated by braking, but then more driving showed it only died at full stop.

Been happening since we started driving it beginning of August, well really since we put it back together for pulling in and out of garage.

Fast forward to present chaos, and I called Hughes, they suggested that I test if it happens with out the power steering pump connected(hydra boost). So I removed it, still died in reverse and drive, this is of course with out the serpentine belt on as well.

Took it one step further and removed vac pump so there was no draw on the engine other than the transmission.... still died in reverse and park. So Hughes said we can’t diagnose it over the phone, do you want us to send you an RCA label? Then I asked if I could just bring it in and have it done by days end, which is what we’re doing!

So 0400 son and I are heading up to Phoenix. Hopefully back at a reasonable enough hour to reinstall it all.

Ok, so we went to Phoenix on Friday, but did not get the privilege of coming home with a usable converter.

We did come home armed with some info, a new transmission pump and housing.

There is a bushing that is inside the transmission pump that died, and cause the torque converter hub to wear terribly. It caused fluid to escape and is believed to be the cause of the engine drag.

Here is the wear on the hub. This was from about 450 miles.

Nothing wrong with the innards of the converter. So they’re putting a new hub on and mailing it back.

Instead of trying to replace a bushing in the pump I just bought a whole new assembly.

Old pump and housing.

Front of trans without pump.

New pump installed. Pretty simple but still made me nervous as I didn’t know what to expect.

Also installed a bigger air mover in hopes to keep EGTs down.

It has a 4” v band exhaust turbine, so this is required.

New 4” next to old 3”

If torque converter shows up tomorrow or Wednesday we will be taking this truck. Otherwise we’re just going to jam it all into the tiny little tacoMa.

Prayers welcome for everything that is currently on our plate to go smoothly.  Moving after living in a place for 5 years is no fun. Throw in a 6k mile trip really turns up the fun-o-meter...
