Flyin6:
Now I know that must sound a little strange and out of context for the gruff old guy, but that fact is a reality for me and I thought I'd say it. Allow me to add a bit more context about why I felt like saying that.

A few days ago I was on an operating table for four hours while a surgeon probed around inside my heart. So although I didn't make light of or mention it, the thing had potential life ending ramifications that I had reconciled before lying down on that cold table in the O.R. I have lived a live abundant with experiences that few men have or will ever have. I have flown over many a strange land and mingled with their peoples. I have eaten their food, breathed their dust, and fought through gunfire and done some crazy stuff while in the military. I have met amazing people and I met Jesus.

Meeting him would change the course of my life but in a way that tethered along all those experiences and my behaviors both good and bad. I believe to my soul in the promise of salvation, so when I laid down on that table I knew two exciting possibilities lied ahead. The most likely was to awaken, free of the burden I have carried for so many years with some heart trouble. The second is that I'd soon meet my creator and give him a big ole hug.

Sitting here in the recovery mode, I began thinking about all of you. I was thinking of the things that mattered and as it turned out not one single physical thing came to mind, except the Chinook helicopter of course, we can all attest that it matters! ;-) Joking aside, you all have mattered to me a great deal. You have been there for me about half a million times bringing fellowship, and joy, and concern, and dialogue, and a hundred other things that made you all become important to me. I can go so far as to say even Daves have become important to me and have added to the fulfillment of a good life for me.

So I guess I really love all of you. You mattered, and you continue to matter, and in the dialogue and over time we have come to be quite the community. We pray for each other lifting up those in urgent need. We share in the joy of a newly acquired homestead, new child, marriage, or business success. We do stuff together without being together and have created a palpable synergy amd we hurt when someone of us is down or sick or lost a job. I would be less without all of you, and I am humbled and honored that you'd consider to allow this old armee pilot into your lives. I mean a flee-bitten hound would matter about as much.

But if I should have walked down that bright tunnel of light to meet the one whom I long to meet, I would have done so without telling all of youses that you matter to me and over the years have added substantially to my life and I love you for it!

Now if anyone ever mentions the old warrant officer got soft, you are: 1. Fired, and 2. Banned!

Continue mission...
