It was a day with varied weather as a cold front dropped in about mid-day plunging temperatures and bringing rain as you can see:

I have visited it before.
They maintain a healthy herd of Bison there reminiscent of the Buffalos and Mastodons who died by the hundreds there tens of thousands of years ago.
There is a museum and visitors center where the archeology of the area is explained.
They replicated one of the salt bogs where whole animals were swallowed up offering modern-day archeologists a bountiful supply of intact skeletons.

Throughout the park in various locations are salt springs surrounded with quick sand-like material where these massive animals of old would come to seek the salt, but end up stuck in the mud and dying. For decades the park has produced mammoth tusks and bones.
-
We decided to treat the dogs to a walk on the trails.
-
We walked the lower loop and the trail over to the fields where the bison herd is kept.
Sorry for the pics of me, Kat refused to let me post pics of her.

In another part of the park is a lake with fishing and hiking, and on top of a big hill is a campground complete with a pool!

The surrounding area is full of historic homes and structures from the 1800s. Here are a couple along with something like a Castle someone built on a nearby hilltop
