Author Topic: Honda Talon 1000R build (Read 1635 times)

So now that I have had the thing out for a few rides, I can report that it is doing well. The trails here in the Tuck are narrow, rock strewn, muddy, lots of standing water and areas requiring extreme departure angles. THis "R" handles all this very well.

The shocks are three position and so far I have been using setting "2" which allows for some very sporty driving, drifting around corners in some places (Sliding??) I just switched to the soft position to see how that works out.

The other Talon I owned got buggered up already, which prompted me to start to accumulate parts.

The first thing it needed was some mirrors, so for the first mod, on with a set of ABS plastic body mirrors.

BTW, it was layered up pretty well with some mud, but the new stihl pressure washer with small block chevy power and like 100 gallons a second cleaned it right up!

I'll do a build thread on that in a bit. Short story...Wife allowed pre-ranger to drive it. He ran into something...obviously

Well, did he end up in an ER? If not you can claim he takes after your better half? If there is an ER bill well then I’d say the finger points directly at you boss!

Added a few parts to my Talon.

Dirt will fling inside the cab via this viewing access beneath the "part" doors. I'm going to do something about that

The outer door skin unscrews quickly and easily

The inside gets several reinforcing aluminum angles which mount where it seems Honda always intended them to mount...Witness the dimples already in the door as drill guides

Next, I was thinking I may need a shoulder harness should I ever tip or roll the thing over. I do not like how they limit your movement, but for such a fast/aggressive/capable machine, I decided to install one for the driver

This handy little jumper will bypass the speed limiter switch that keeps the vehicle under 15 mph with the seat belt not fastened

The locking reel is located behind the seat in the wheel well and accessible after removing a plastic cover with the plastic expando things

These pictures are difficult to view.

They show excessive mud damage

It seems some of the stuff got on my door upright and inside the wheel well causing the horrible damage.

I'll take it to the body shop to see if there is anyway to repair this nasty damage

After some grief counselling, I was able to confront the reality of having nearly lost my new Talon to mud staining!

I decided to confront my worse fears and attack the demon directly

I picked up some mud buster fender flares from the local church where demons and things like this are dealt with agressively!

Hooray for me!

They attach with those plastic expando things and M6 screws

They should do a pretty good job of keeping the gooey stuff away from the shiney parts of the Talon

Then I bolted on a set of Honda PowerSports nerf bars or as we call them, Rock-Rails. They are really well made and fit into preexisting factory holes in the frame

I'll hold off on the diff covers until GLO offers them! ;-))

What does it have for drain holes in the floor, The can Am has nothing. The rzr have a cap so to speak.
What does your rig have?

Also where did they dump your battery?

Drain holes are already located in the floor, all over. No way of sealing them up, so they are meant to remain open I guess.

Battery is under the hood up front, easily accessible.
