Lake Kincaid, Kentucky

A couple of weeks ago we hiked Lake Kinkaid while we were checking it out as a possible overnight campsite for an upcoming overnight with the little people of our family.

It is another of the many reservoirs backed up by a Corps of Engineers dam.

It is quite nice and was on our list of places to go check out.

Speaking of that list, there are nearly 35 Kentucky state parks with decent hiking and a large national forest. We decided to spend much of our summer and some of the fall exploring (hopefully) one per week.

This one is perfect for an overnight/day with the grandkids. It has a golf course, a rec area with swings and kid's obstacles, a large pool, a couple of camping areas, and a snack bar along with grassy fields and two hiking trails.

The trails were simple but did require some steep climbs up decent inclines. I like them for their aerobic quality for getting the heart rate up. We ended up doing both of them in one afternoon.

The trails are nice and looked to be well maintained.

The trails wind down toward a creek. We found this pretty tame white tail doe near one creek.

The trails are named for some local plants that adorn them.

This trail was hard to spot at this point but showed up well a little further on.

All in all, it is a good day trip. Show up with some food and a blanket for the picnic and you'll enjoy a pleasant afternoon in Kentucky. Our farm is about 15 miles away from this place!

KEntucky really has some beautiful state parks. We spent a week at Cave Run a few years ago. Mostly boating and hiding from the rain.

It really does. So does Indiana and Ohio

This past weekend we hiked Hocking Hills OH for two days. Spectacular is a word that aptly fits that place!
