That is a great deal more elevation/slope than I thought up to this point. Real hill right there.

In the future you will be able to get your exercise by just walking down the driveway, then running back up, say 5-6 times in a row.

Trudging around up there all the time when there. Plus coming from MSL to 5200ft, it actually feels pretty good.

so what your saying JR is that you are getting skinny with all of the walking?

Better, but not skinny. I have dropped 40 overall though.

Well, been doing some thinking on the pad location. As much as I like the view from the original pad a few things have come up to make me rethink the site. I have been thinking about this on\off.

1) When staking out the site, the wind was just atrocious. I lived in a windy area before (Suisun) and it drove me nuts. Don't think I want that again.

2) Well location closer to house. Not running it about 800' up a hill after it comes out of the ground! Plus the road would be easier to cut in but a little longer, although it just continues my road cut already crossing a small runoff.

3) Neighbors. Not that I have any issue with them at all, but I found my neighbor to the east is going to build about 500' from my pad. Whole idea is get some privacy so we aren't looking right at each other. As I said I loose the great view from the house, but get more protection from weather. No homes can be seen from the new site.

Downside is cost will go up for the plans since its a redo, but the Topo is done. Power would need to be run a little farther.

So I am probably running up there again tomorrow to see

I agree on the wind aspect. I’m so sick of the afternoon winds we get through our yard. It’s good that you’re taking the time to figure out what you want.

It is something that has crossed my mind before today. Last week simply reminded me of how bad it can get.

On my way up now with several new topo maps.

If you go up the hill N\W of where I have the new pad, you can see much more of the valley.

Made another run up on Friday to verify the pad location. Moved it about 200ft west into a small bowl (50ft down). Keep the view, see no other houses and have more protection.

While there I made a tool rack for the door. Worked OK but needs to be made from a 2x8 vs the 2x4 (I had there) so shovels will fit and clear the door.

Fan isn't working on the timer and the voltage reg burned up. Trying to run it at 6-8 volts vs flat out.

Got my new wireless camera working up there. Battery was not making contact but a piece of CC fixed that.

Repaired a piece of floor that had come up some. Gorilla glue, plastic and wood with a jack did a fine job.

Never found out who it was. Did find out there was someone driving around and turning in lots of people.

Speaking of the conex been doing a little work on the roof being bent up some. Once I get it a tad better think I will coat it some henrys. Suppose to reflect the sun a lot and really seal things up. No leaks I know of but why not?

Little soon but looking at log home kits. 50-60k for basic 1600sf shell is not to bad.

Plans almost done, then the well. Hopefully build in spring.

Do you mean put the well in a spring?

Get the pad area cleared and the well in this year. With the new pad, find a spot for septic that lets me expand the pad as needed.

This winter pick a home and get the plans submitted for building next spring.

Will be several years, less if the wife keeps going as she is.

Got the grading plans back today, they look great and just charged $450 for the pad change. And it moves less dirt! Only issue is he kept the road dead straight from the cont to the pad area not cutting across like I show it. Means more cutting into heavy rock, but more area for expansion below so it might be a good trade off. Now moving .7 acres to .98 acres prior.

Green shows road as Eng drew it.

Permit got put in this week, should be less than 2 weeks.

Looking at log home kits. This company looks like the best bang for buck so far even with shipping. Right now all is 15% off.

Looking hard at this home; https://www.coventryloghomes.com/ourDesigns/craftsmanStyle/Alpine/model.htmll and having dormers added for the master upstairs. I would reverse the floorplan and maybe add a mud room. (click on details, elevation B is where I want the door)

They include engineering and the foundation plans.

To be cleared for occupancy I need a garage too, so thinking of a steel workshop (40x60)

Heading up Friday for the day. Just been a couple weeks and I made a seat bracket, hope it works.

Used the old base and added bar to match the drawings.

Permit with having them submit was just $300, hope it is done.

SO went up and did a few things. Got the seat adapter on. Made it fine but had to slid it forward a hole set so the hyd fluid hatch would open. Had to make a couple bracket to keep the seat on. Sure works good and feels great now.

Then I relaxed and had a lemonade.

Then I addressed the front lights, as in none that worked. Picked up a 42in 240w light bar a few weeks ago and it fit perfect after I made tabs for it. Even ran it off the headlight switch which had non working halogens before.

Picture do not do it justice!

Also worked on the roof of the container. The door end came out nice, now a couple low spots in the center. Need a 4x4 though as the two 2x4s screwed together just don't hack it.

Spypoints Phil. That's why it says Spypoint on the pics. :)

Same ones I've was using for deer hunting (before AZ banned them on water holes), and Idaho. Pretty awesome for the price as long as you can get 2 bars of cel service. My Idaho ones are just taking pics...no cel service on my property.

It is pretty flat right there but even my truck scrapes and runs over a lot of stuff. Gate will keep out the regular people, not the hard core. Neighbors checked out the SUV it went to a another house.

Its a Spypoint wireless I got at Cabelas. Free basic service but I upgraded for $48 a year. Good service up there and the batteries are still at 80%. Kinda stashed for that angle watching the cont. Might put another on the road in.

No one should really be there at all. Road only goes to my place. Turn around is 500ft before that.

Thought of a second one on the road too. There were quad tracts around the container, but no pics. Then again it is in a tree sorta out of plain site about 50ft from the cont.

2nd Bat Ranger friend of mine had a place and he hung a sign on the gate,  professionally painted 4x8 plywood sign with his units insignia and on the bottom it said “if you arrive here uninvited your chances for survival are slim”

Well Jr, take it a bit easy. I am betting all will be good once you get back there. I really don't think anyone wants to break into your sea can just to see what is in there. Make the change while you are there and call it a day. At some point what you are trying to protect is not worth the effort.

Pad is easy but the left turn in the road is pretty rocky, might be dozer work there.

Plans were NOT approved, just pas the main body and email sent by mistake.

They are OK with the plans, but the container is a no-no. SO since they had the container ON the plans, no pass. That is being addressed, then they will not worry about the container,,,,,,

Bought materials for shelves along back wall. Got a ready made that is falling apart already and to small.

Also working on the ceiling/roof a little bit. 2 more bad spots where the entire roof will hold water. Picked up a 2nd jack as I support the bad area, then tweak the edges. Couple small spats will need filler and rust treatment. Then planning on coating the entire roof with roofing sealer.

Got a little done, pulled up most all the old stakes to use on the new pad. Got a tour of the house nest site over that is off grid. Heated floors, no AC, 1200sf with a basement. Battery setup was 40, 1.5 metal lead batteries. Said they were good for decades if you don't let em go dry. Have a nice diesel backup too that was around 15k and fully auto.

Found my plans had not been resubmitted so that is getting done now, eeeerrrrr,,,,,,,,,,,

Watched some of the RR building stuff on youtube, guy is great!

To get me on the property faster I am thinking a barn/shop of some type. Awnings on both sides for trailer and such. Thinking 40x50/60 with a 12ft roof minimum.

Found a company selling metal buildings that have not been picked up or orders canceled. They are out of Co if nothing local is found.

If I call it a barn and use for such (animal or hay storage) it can be called a barn and built without a dwelling. That I checked on.

Just priced out a poll barn (40x60) for just over $20k. Not bad. I can do the poll footings myself but if I have to do a full perimeter foundation I would farm out the cement work, but dig the footing for it.

I like the RR buildings YouTube channel as well. Makes me want to go work for him.

OK, so now with the plans back in and looking at "barns/workshops" I am trying to decide what size to go with. Remember my pad is 100x100 now and I want a house on it too. Sure I can massage that a little.

I have always wanted a 40x60, but do I really need that big? Would 30x50 work? You guys who have shops, what do you think or want? I have decided on 14ft walls for a 10x12 door. I want a lift in there in the long run. Also plan on awnings down both sides plus the container

Price diff is not all that much, little under $20 for a 30x55 and little north of $20 for the 40x60. That's no floor or awning but windows and doors. Here's a snapshot of what I have designed online. Place is out of Tx.

40x60? Yes. You’ll always want more space.

As long as it fits your spot.

I sure would go as large as I could with such close prices. Might want at least one more equipment door. At least frame for one or two additional.

Bigger.   Trust me.

Also when I added the second large roll up on the adjacent wall it made all the difference during the summer to get a flow of air through the shop.

Not sure if you are going to pour the slab now or later but if you pour it later it’s a bit of a pain because of the purloin at floor level.

Slab cost difference between the 30/50 and 40/60 will be about 5-6k

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.
