I have recently been turned on to geocaching. The concept of the operation is to find hidden caches throughout a certain AO utilizing a GPS. Certain caches only contain a log, while others contain little treasures. You retrieve a treasure and leave one. Check it out! They are EVERYWHERE! And it's a great way to get the kids out and about "unplugged" and situationally aware.

I've heard about that. My buddy was way into it for awhile, sounds like a blast.

not only that HC, but it can also be a teaching opportunity for land nav with a paper map and compass......?

Me three.... I am not a big fan of GPS at all. That said, I don't have a Am/FM radio in my truck either LoL
Geo Caching sounds fun, wonder if anyone does such stuff in Neb.

Land nav is easy peasy in Nebraska. It's all flat, you can see where your destination.. Lol

When I drove across country it was the most boring 400 miles I have ever driven, plus it was snowing! Flat, straight and white.

Pretty popular here. I had wanted to try it with the girls, but never made time.

LoL.... I feel as a native Nebraskan I will now have to make a few points.
The six flattest states are Florida, Illinois, North Dakota, Louisiana, Minnesota, and Delaware. Nebraska doesn't even make the top 10, It factually ranks 20th flattest.
Our highest elevation is 5,429 feet our lowest 840 feet.
The I-80 Corridor is indeed rather flat topography. It's an ancient drainage basin and was chosen for it's rather level topography allowing easy road/railroad building. If one counts elevation changes it's hardly flat in any way. It's uphill heading West and downhill heading East obviously. If you leave Omaha and head West in 122 miles you will have gone from 900' elevation to 1700' Elevation Roughly. We live at 1728' Elevation. My home place changes elevation 112' in less than 5 acres distance. If you leave the I-80 Corridor and head N or S you will find sharp rolling hills in less than 15 miles along the entire length of I-80.
Interesting trivia:
Nebraska has more miles of river and lake coast than any state in the union.
We have the largest underground aquifer in N America. We also have the largest Dessert or dunes in N America. It's entirely covered in grass. It's official name is the Sandhills... notice hills in its name LoL

Ok enough DOT stuff, but one of any native Nebraskans favorite things to hear is how flat our state is. It means the beautiful secrets our state holds, are still largely unknown by most. Especially that "flat thing" LoL

That may be, but I did land nav there and there was no terrain features besides the river, and it made the course horribly easy.
-
Guess that would depend on which river. But guessing Camp Ashland then?

Yes, in winter, right at the thaw.

Ah... PLDC? That was my first opportunity to lead women.... Eye opener... I've worked with some pretty hardcore females that I would take into a gunfight with me any day... None of them were in the army though. Lots of drama and BS and minding your p's and q's... It was unfortunate. We lost a couple of really good joes at a CLS course because some girls dropped sexual harassment complaints on them for "shop talk"... Wasn't even directed at the complainants, they were just in ear shot....
Just DOT'd my own thread... How does that work?

that was more of a vent brother. you would not believe just how bad all the sexual harassment shot has gotten. I literally walk around looking for dodo on the ground because I don't want to deal with any garbage before I transition.
