Trailer towing weight

I never actually looked at this before, and sure wish I had, but I dug into what my 2500HD can pull

And man am I disappointed

This sort of dovetails into the dually thing but looking at my 2500 HD which weighs 8700 give or take, the max GVW is only a paltry 10,000 lbs. Put the wife a preranger in there with some baggage and I'l all in at max gross weight.

Gets worse. Kat and I were strolling around a huge camper store and came across a nice fifth wheel we both like. It is a smaller 28 foot unit that weighs a bit over 10K dry and has a max gross of 12,500.

Referencing the 2500HD duramax again, I can only find a combined max gross weight of 16,700 if using a fifth wheel. Total weight of the whole combo would put me roughly 5,500 over the max!!!!!!!!!!!

I see 2500's pulling these fivers and I just assumed it was fine. I'll bet every single one of them are illegal and way over the limit. When I pulled that dump trailer of mine and came off the scales at 28,000+ I guess I was a cool 12,000 over the max.

Am I getting something wrong here? I just did all the math and I am using the tag from the glove box and drivers door jamb.

If this is true, this 2500 is only a diesel 1500, not much good to pull anything, and incapable of pulling anything I already own!!!

Yeah. I think you’re off there a bit chief

24500 seems to be the CGVWR with a gooseneck or fifth wheel

Payload capacity is 3670 from what I’m reading so that includes trailer tongue weight and people and cargo. So 2500 or so if you have a few people in the rig and some tools and such. If 10-15% is tongue weight for a bumper pull you still have plenty of capacity.

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

Tex...Love ya man!

Post one gold star!

Good job there Tex!

It may be noted that the coveted RMGS (realMan gold star award) is seldom to almost never given to mere mortals...
