Went down to Bud's Gun Shop in Lexington today. Planned to pick up an AR-9, 9mm AR-based pistol brace 8" barrel rifle/pistol thing

As luck would have it, I thought the trip would be nearly a wash because they didn't have any completel guns, nor did they have any parts to build one. They can order one so I may be GTG there.

Walking out a hundred foot long glass case filled with pistols, I just happened to ask if they had any of the Remington double stack 1911's in .45.

The gentleman said that he did not...but...he did happen to have one Rock Island Armory M1911A2 tactical in .45.

I now own that gun. I am a Colt .45 lover from ages ago but retired my 1911's because of low magazine capacity. This A2 has 14+1 so that is no longer a problem and I love the knockdown of a .45.

Pictures after a hasty range day if I can toss one together this week.

Initially: It's really big. It's heavy...really heavy. The trigger takes some effort and the gun is really tight being brand new. The grips are amazing and the flared mag well swells out around the bottom of the hand grip and just fills up my hand about perfectly as any gun I have ever held.

Ordered three extra mags @ $21.50 ea and a Blackhawk paddle holster.

On and the sights are very nice. High vis front red insert forming an arrow point with fully adjustable rear sights. Has an adjustable trigger as well.

Got my truck back. I'm sure they charged me labor for their misdiagnosed turbo. They charged me 9 hours of labor to replace the passenger side intake seal. They changed the route of some of the engine wiring and my aircraft experience and OCD doesn't like it so will be taking care of that this weekend. Found out why the ordered the wrong seal for the intake, they couldn't read the vin said the 10th digit was a 5 when it is a 6. Younger me would have argued about the labor and the wiring but the old me knows that if you want it done the way you want it do it yourself. I released from the doctor from my shoulder surgery so I will do it myself next time

Haven't mentioned it but going in for spinal surgery on the 25th.
I've been not so well off since July. Pretty much gutted my whole summer and now all of the fall so far.
Couldn't even make it on the family vaca...she's doing FL right now.

Will be so happee when the surgeon gets done and I can get back to cabin building.

Prognosis is excellent. Herniated disc L3-L4

Doc said to show up two hours before. The operation will take less than two hours. afterward, I wake up, then walk around the office there, then go home. Says I can go walking in the evening if I want to.

Presently I get 6-8 good hours on some days. Awfully painful. Broke my back twice before in the Armee. L5-S1, then later L4-L5, so I'm moving upward

MRI of old operations shows they are intact.

Is the plan to repair the disk? Fuse the vertebrae or do that new fancy remove the disk and replace it?

I did the fusion in my neck but the wife did the replacement of the disk. I think if it was available I would have gone the replacement route in my C spine if it was available  much faster recover time  and less weight restrictions

Simplier than that for me. A part of the disc has broken off and is lodged in the spinal canal. They will remove that, then in the surgeon's words, smooth everything up and it's fixed.

Been quitting early the past couple days because of high winds and fire danger. It's really dry out there and there have been a few fires around. Got the bill for the combine tire. Only $2,500. I expected more.

Let's pray that is the last of your problems.

Case in point, I have a Cat 953 sitting on a hill outside my kitchen door with a broken hydraulic line(I think).  Luckily it is not my responsibility to fix it or pay for the repairs, I’m only cutting the check for the earth moving that is occurring.  And there is a lot of that.

It’s called winterizing, the Kentucky way. Plus I had the top of the ridge cut off to give us some flat space in the back. Most of the dirt was used to level up the East side of the house and garage. The entire area the house and garage sit on is a ridge top. The east side of the garage was a treacherous hillside to walk or drive anything on. So we got this done:

Added about 10 feet of level ground outside the kitchen door and a full ten foot width flat and level path around the east side of the garage. The garage on this side is about 120 feet long so it’s been a lot of earth moving.

Ya, a 953 is made for projects like that!

Only one hydraulic line with all that dirt being moved

That may be one for the record books

As a side note, one of your cars may have broken down as a sympathetic response to the bleeding of the CAT.

Haven’t noticed any of the cars acting odd.  But my son’s new to him 1995 4Runner is leaking coolant, so that might have something to do with it.

I am also going to have him build me a backstop for a 200m shot from the house to the back corner of the field, or as a pistol backstop from a little closer . And some whoops and a tabletop or two for the kids on dirt bikes and four wheelers.

The truck is a mid 2000s freightliner with a Pre-emissions Mercedes engine. Its leaking fuel near one of the injectors. It has to be an O ring or something. Didn't want to tear into it in the field because who knows if parts are available. So, the guys got it started back up and beat feet for home. We were about 12 miles from the farm. Probably not the smartest thing to do but nobody could tow it and all our trucks were tied up.

Yeah.

At lower RPMs it would actually start jumping in the air 6-10" with no good way to wrestle it, let alone try and get to the throttle, or the kill button, or the choke, or ......

Found myself on wrong end of dummy sticks. Forgot to take picture of posts I concreted in place. Doubling the length of the wood storage and adding spot in middle to store my wood splitter. I’ll need to start a build thread on the splitter. I had built it for my 90hp mf tractor and then moved to Colorado. I had too much invested so kept it and moved it 3x, it currently resides in corner of shop in Colorado.

From the “I’m cheap category”

Have a suitcase that we’ve had for years and the rubber wheels were disintegrating. They were riveted in but I dremel tooled them out and found some replacements with axles from Amazon for $10.

Here’s to another 20 years.

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.

Over in Eastern Washington on the yearly deer hunt. Only a couple problems, it has been very hot and dry and by myself this year. Maybe see some rain/snow Friday but afraid it is too little too late. I have managed to outlive my hunting pals but that isn’t really a good thing.

From the “I’m cheap category”

Have a suitcase that we’ve had for years and the rubber wheels were disintegrating. They were riveted in but I dremel tooled them out and found some replacements with axles from Amazon for $10.

Not cheap. Frugal.

We all know you have expensive tastes where it counts. :)

Thinking the exact same thing
My big polish Bernese Mountain Dog is 130's and still growing. Looks pretty similar. Mako has a bit more white...
