Spent the afternoon fixing the forklift repair companies screw up....

We have a Clark 1978 4k forklift which the water pump was going out in. Said forklift repair company brings in the pump they thought was correct for what motor they thought lift had. It bolted up to said motor with longer bolts and that is the extent of what was the same. Spent several hours and three trips to hardware getting parts and pieces made to get hoses hooked up. Plumbing 101, if you can’t get what you need make your own. This was two pieces of tube I pressed together and then welded adapting the one side of pump that had a 2.25” od outlet to the 1.75” radiator.

Don't get me started on forklift issues.

Just finished resealing 2 cylinders, welded 40 flywheel teeth and used an air file to size (too lazy to remove the engine), paid 180.00 to have the starter rebuilt because I couldn't find one, front seal (ordered by size), welded up the missing chunk out of the crank pulley and turned on the lathe, and replaced the leaking water pump.
..mid 70s Hyster 3500 with a Mazda engine. Can't find any parts for it, but the water pumps are readily available everywhere on the web. Weird

Put up 5 of the six cameras on the house now,  need to run a attic run to put the last one in the garage.  I want to have one in the top corner so I can see if people come in those doors or if they are open.

That will double cover every door into the house

So the neighbors are having a celebration I guess, one of them have let the kids loose and they have rang my door bell twice and ran away.  We called it door bell ditching as a kid.... but.... who would be stupid enough to ring the actual camera doorbell then try and run away.

What would your all response be?

I walked on the porch and asked the kids behind the short fence what they wanted. The responded with they wanted nothing.   I suggested I would let the 150 lbs mastiff out next time

They jogged down to their house party.

I also messaged the parents about the loose children’s actions and suggested they keep them on a shorter leash.

I thought about this later this morning. If you’re friends, or at least get along well with the parents, tell them to send the kids down again, and as soon as the reach the porch, light them up with the super soaker.

Or just let the parents ( friends or not )know that the next time you catch the kids in the yard you will use the super soaker.

Well luckily the kids never came back,  the parents had had a few drinks I’m sure.    I don’t think I own a super soaker but a good garden hose would have worked lol

I need to add one more floor light to the side of the house where the kids would hide on a motion sensor.  Then when they walk into daylight it will be like the zombie movie with Will smith when they break into his house and all the spot lights turn on

One could look at it this way also. At least the kids were out side playing and running around. Instead of planted in front of a video game. Good old fashion fun. I would be lying if I said Ive never done this. The last time I believe I was in my late teens and there may have been some alcohol involved.

I’m not saying I didn’t do it as a child either but I think the dumb part is the doorbell camera really messes it up, we got evil with broom sticks and push bells from the roof tops.

But once sure twice probably not. Add the doorbell camera definitely not

Helping a local rc plane group fence off a landing strip area to keep the ATVs from tearing it up every weekend. It's 500ft x 1000. Got a load of crappy railroad ties yesterday and planted 18 of them today, 3.5ft deep.

Been a while since I got sunburned in 85 degree weather, but it happened today.

^^^^ Part of some gate/fence???

Met up with an Amish guy on the farm to talk up the barn build. I think we agreed on everything. He just has to check on prices of slightly longer 6X6's. The slope means that one corner of the barn will be 18" lower than the opposite corner which requires longer posts.

Initial proposal for a 30X50X12 with a 4/12 roof, three framed openings, 18X10, and two 12X10, two man doors, one with an 8X8 cover, seven windows, wainscott, 28 ga. steel and a few other things was $25,500 turn key.

I asked to build it with a 6/12 roof, then he suggested scissors truss which got the interior height to 16 feet. Provided costs aren't blowing up, I'll sign a contract early in the week.

I threw in the towel over purchasing a kit and building it myself. With all the trips this summer holds, I would never get it done and my new equipment would just waste away under a harsh summer sun. he Amish in these parts build most of the barns and this guy is third generation. I'm actually going to have a good old Amish barn raising. I think he said 4 days start to finish. Should be cool to watch it all happen.

We put rocks around ours, cars were doing burnouts on it and fences tend to get in the way of planes.

I found these old jars in the shed on a farm we tore down. I literally dug them out of the dirt. I could not get them clean and gave up on them. A bunch of them have been in a tote for several years. I finally decided to try and get the clean. A little help with suggestions from the Facebook canning group. I soaked this is half and half vinegar and water for 36 hours then washed with hot water and soap.

I got given a torch set and gauges and this is the handle that was with it.

Looking for a cutting torch and I’m sure these won’t do it

You have to be careful with the HF torches. Sometimes they work with other valves body's, sometimes not.

If the tips interchange, you are good (just the top piece that screws on)

If you have a welding supply near you they may have used stuff, praxair in Sparks does. Normally rebuilt for a nice price.

I called the local Airgas and Norco welding supply they don’t sell used or refurbished products.

I have checked the local classifieds and there are some on there but there seems to be a lot of corrosion.

Charles,
You can switch the “heads”? The threading is all the same and so forth?

take the torch body to the local welding supply and they probably have a cutting head for that in stock   You can also get a rosebud tip which is great for heating up siezed bolts.   Tell them the thickness of steel you are going to cut and they will size you up with the correct tip.    ask about gas and oxy settigs for your regulators which will be different based on tip and thickness of steel.

Not to start an argument but typically rosebud heads are for heating large areas of steel. The standard torch head will heat up a bolt or nut just fine. I often am too lazy to swap heads and use the torch cutting head to warm up ring gears to get them onto the carrier.

So unless Dave is doing a lot of metal fab the rosebud is likely unnecessary atm.

Just got off the phone with oldest daughter who lives in Firestone CO she told me that the only thing on their local news about the Boulder shooting (23 miles away) was the procession for the officer or talk of more gun control laws. They had to get any other info from national news. Oh to go back to the days of honest news reporting.

Wendy talked smack and didnt believe me when i told her that i knew how to operate a sewing machine.

Well today i got sick and tired of always chasing a hand towel while cooking (help me out here tate) and i did some modifications to my cooking towels.

I can now clip them to my belt loop and reach them when needed.

Kids today don't know how easy they have it. When I was young, I had to walk 9 feet through shag carpet to change the TV channel.
